Richard N. Hillegas commented on DERBY-7144:

Attaching derby-7144-default.sql. This demonstrates another crash involving the
INSERT branch of a MERGE statement.

{noformat}
CONNECT 'jdbc:derby:memory:db;create=true';

CREATE TABLE targetData (ID BIGINT);

CREATE TABLE sourceData(CATEGORY INTEGER);
INSERT INTO sourceData VALUES (10), (20), (30), (40), (50), (60);

-- fails with this error:
--
-- ERROR XJ001: Java exception: 'Cannot invoke
"org.apache.derby.iapi.types.TypeId.getBaseTypeId()" because "otherType" is
null: java.lang.NullPointerException'.
--
-- kills the connection
MERGE INTO targetData target USING sourceData source ON 1 < 2
WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT (id) VALUES (DEFAULT);
