Re: [libreoffice-design] 'adopt-o-meter' for the download page

Did you think about something like this? http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/cgi_img_auth.php/c/c4/Download_page_adapt-o-meter.png I uploaded the tachometers to the wiki: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Adapt-o-meter_early.png This picture tells me that it is dangerous to use the actual version 3.4.0 because it is in the red (or orange) area. And when we have 3.4.1 or higher it is the same. But 3.4.1 will be a release with bug fixes. Red/orange areas should only be for betas/RCs but not for actual versions. All actual versions should be in a green area. I personally don't like such a adopt-o-meter which looks like a speedometer to show which version is the best. It's looks rowdy, ostentatious for me (The Fast and the Furios). Bernhard's first and Vamsi's proposals show a more reputable software. And even the version 3.4.0 *is* a reputable version. http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/cgi_img_auth.php/c/c4/Download_page_adapt-o-meter.png This mockup shows the problem when we use a circular button. It is getting too wide if we put two meters side by side. My 0.5 cents An other proposal: What do you think about an interactive adopt-o-meter? We have a bar like Vamsi's fith proposal with Stability and Features but only showing the version where the moveable slider is. When the user slides the sliding pot he views an other version. (I'm not able for now to show on a mockup what I mean, sorry) Grüße k-j -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to design+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/design/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Sorry for that - I should have tried to do a mockup :-( Did you think about something like this? http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/cgi_img_auth.php/c/c4/Download_page_adapt-o-meter.png Exactly :-) - just that we'd use only one for 3.3.2 (not both standard and conservative); conservative fits, like: http://artax.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~kendy/design-list/Download_page_adapt-o-meter.png When we have 3.4.1, it would get standard. I really like it, thanks a lot! Hi Klaus-Juergen, klaus-jürgen weghorn ol píše v Čt 02. 06. 2011 v 22:38 +0200: Do you think you can have it today, or early tomorrow? To a clearer understanding: There wasn't any vote and isn't any decision yet from the design team to use this or any other proposal. So we shouldn't use any proposal on an official website to make facts. Well - what is worse: to go with a sub-optimal choice from the very announcement of 3.4.0, and improve it on Monday / Tuesday, or not to lead the users at all, leave them confused of 'what the heck should I use, when you offer both versions'? I'd really love to see Bernhard's or Vamsi's work there from the very beginning, and exchange it with something else should there need be later. So, if voting in inevitable, I hereby start it: I like Bernhard's approach best for the moment, and I'd like to see: http://artax.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~kendy/design-list/Download_page_adapt-o-meter.png implemented on the website with the 3.4.0 announcement. Marc's idea inspired me to put take another shot at this. Result is here: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Vk_aom4.png I put together a mockup without the meter and using Kodali's meter mockup but put vertically next to the versions, and, in the order of appearance that I suggested.[1] It keeps the page clean, with no distractions. Let me know what you think.
