[libreoffice-design] Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Who on Earth is the LibO installation target?

However, I'm a bit confused by the No Stylist, no Navigator, missing
settings.. Do you mean those things are not open by default? They
seem to be there for me after doing an install but just not open and
 ready to use.

In my FR installs the Stylist and the Navigator are installed but not
displayed. I know very few users who actually know these tools exist and
what they are meant for, not telling about displaying or using them :(

As for the default settings, I have been wondering since the very first
times of OOo 1.1.1 why the French apostrophe is not setup (the setting
is available) while the French quote is. As a consequence most French
users use the wrong character and create faulty documents. The automatic
setting would be s easy to add...

Other lacking settings: display non-printing chars, activate the backup
copy, prefer the richer LibO dialogs, adjust zoom settings.
In Writer: add an Insert from file toolbutton, set the Table toolbar
position non-floating.
In Draw: add a Fontwork toolbutton (the Fontwork toolbar can't do what
this button does; or did I miss smthg?)

Optionally, some extensions can really help, like AltSearch.

I'm not sure if someone from documentation is also working on the
types of things you are writing. Even if they are there is a good
chance they have stalled and might appreciate someone else taking over
what they have done so far and that might help give you some other
ideas or confirm some of the ones you had already.

Well, what I'm writing is about FR installs, though some common
denominator could be found between languages (Stylist and Navigator come
to mind).

Hi Jean-François,

Very good repost indeed, and unfortunately true in my own experience of
company wide implementations of LO in SMEs.

The current marketing guff attempts to sell (and I use that word
loosely) LO to businesses just by stating it is enterprise-ready.
Unfortunately, this completely ignores the fact that most SMEs have no
or little IT support contracts, and those that do use firms that are
mostly clueless about configuring LO to work correctly in their IT
environment. I have experienced this first hand with various different
IT support firms (from local to national) in various companies over the
past, notwithstanding the various enterprise environment LO/AOO specific
bugs - e.g. reading and writing to network shares to name but one.

As an example of how clueless some IT support departments can be about
LO, I saw a post on the AOO list the other day representing an English
borough council IT support entity that had attempted to send a 27 page
audit document to the list in the vain hope that someone in charge
would respond to the questions...OK, I would expect that from someone
whose job is not to manage IT, but seriously, from the IT support entity
itself (third party subcontractor by the looks of it). If the specialist
IT support people don't know what IT is, how is anyone else in a SME on
whom the job is thrust going to know ? (perhaps that particular
situation also speaks volumes for how low market penetration and
awareness of LO in public administration in the UK is, and certainly
doesn't reflect very highly on the IT support firm).

Anyway, to cut a long digression short, yes, I would agree that the
project doesn't currently address the needs of SMEs or even
administrations other than through the buy a support contract mantra,
which is currently how the Board appear to see development and
penetration of LO increasing and TDF with LO really establishing itself
long term.

Of course, as no doubt anyone from the marketing team reading this would
say Please feel free to contribute materials to the project, the door
is wide open.

;-)

Please, help to choose which of these existent icons for each theme
should be kept to represent the command 'Zoom optimal'

Zoom optimal means 'Zoom to fit in window'.
Until recently, some LibreOffice modules used three different names for
this same action, and used two different icons for that.
Which one do you prefer to 'survive' for each icon theme?

I've invited you to fill out the form Zoom optimal icons. To fill it
 out, visit:

[libreoffice-design] LibreOffice Extensions-Site: Renovation

2014-02-09 Thread Andreas Mantke
Hello,

first sorry for crossposting, but I want to reach as many project
members as possible. The further discussion should take place at the
website-list.

The LibreOffice extensions website is currently running on Plone with an
add-on called Plone Software Center. There were a discussion to renovate
the extensions site some weeks ago. I started my work on new content
types in the mean time. I created this new types in a new add-on for
Plone that is based on Dexterity content types. This types are more
future-proof because Dexterity creates smaller files, less overhead and
will be the future of Plone.

I created the following hierarchical structure of content types (current
naming):

  * ExtCenter
  * ExtProject
  * ExtReleasesSection
  * ExtRelease
  * Downloadablefile

The first four types are of the container class. The general
configuration is done in the ExtCenter (e.g. LibreOffice versions,
platforms etc.).

Independent from the CMS, that we use for the
reimplementation/renovation I would like to discuss with you the
structure of the new extensions site, the fields that are displayed in
the different pages (e.g. a project page, a release page, a downloadable
file page) and the information (fields) we would like to fill in the
contributors.

I published already two screenshots of the new types on my blog
(http://amantke.de/blog/2014/02/libreoffice-extensions-repository-draft-of-new-views-part-1/).
They are pure Plone default layout. If we choose to go further with
Plone a new layout will be added once the content add-on is finished.

But I would like to discuss the structure of the new extensions site and
the information (fields) - in the edit-form and in the public page of
each content type on the website-list. My current work is only a first
draft.

Regards,
Andreas
