Re: [libreoffice-design] Remove SplashScreen
Hi Adolfo, *, Am 05.10.2015 um 16:55 schrieb Adolfo Jayme Barrientos: [...] (Look, I have a reason to call our branding “weak”: TDF decided to unilaterally put there a meaningless, in-your-face number “5”, and throw away our brand colors, without consulting designers who submitted designs.) Why do you mean that we throw away our brand colors? We throw away a *non* branding color. I want to remember: This "olive" was the biggiest branding weakness (and the greatest design desaster) we ever did. (And it was a great personal satisfaction for me to delete it from branding wiki page.) You are right: It was a mistake to not ask the design team but it was necessary because of lack of time. But this is an other problem. Let me say: the design team for VI wasn't able to organize it in that fast time. Kendy was overswamped by UX and other work and we have no other design team lead for VI (as we don't have anyone who really makes VI). We should do it better organized for V6. If we’re to keep an obsolete UI paradign such as the splash screen, it should at least be minimal, as Mirek suggested years ago [1] [1]: https://clickortap.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/citrus-splash.png?w=150&h=84 What shall I see here? When we talk about the splash screen, we should not only talk about design but also about marketing: To have the "5" is a big marketing strategy against others who are in 4.x. To symbolize that is very important. We should show it on every edge. And so I'm glad that not only designers but Charles and Italo as marketing team have a look at this thread. I will vote for a configuration switch as mentioned above in the thread. -- Grüße k-j Member of TheDocumentFoundation http://www.documentfoundation.org/foundation/members/ http://de.libreoffice.org http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: design+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/design/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Microsoft Office has a splash screen, so we should have one > (if Microsoft keeps the splash screen, there must be a reason I am not contributing my time with LibreOffice to become a minion of theirs. If there might be a reason why they are keeping certain UI elements, it’s probably neglect. Many of the Office programs are in maintenance mode (Publisher and Access, for instance, had their biggest changes in Office 2010). You know, there is a program that should have a splash screen, based on the argument of startup time. It’s called Evolution. It takes nearly half a minute to start in my machine. But I suspect that it would only introduce even more complexity to its startup process. LibreOffice is much faster than that, but you cannot improve on that if you are to keep “configuration switches” and stuff a “normal user” (to use your term) won’t touch. Paradoxically. -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: design+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/design/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-design] Request for help: new icon in sdext
Hi, I've implemented a little new feature on master in the Impress presenter console: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/gitweb?p=core.git;a=commit;h=b1a6a99b9a78689c6d3649ce066fad66912188e2 It looks like this: http://people.freedesktop.org/~vmiklos/2015/sdext-presenter-restart-timer.png As you can see in the gerrit link, I had to add two new icons (one normal and one mouseover version), but obviously I lack skills to do so -- so I just copy&pasted the exchange button's icon as a placeholder. I guess something like Firefox's "reload" button would be adequate here, but no strong preference. :-) Could somebody here on this list help me with that? Preferable in the form of a gerrit change that updates those two files. ;-) Thanks a lot, Miklos -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: design+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/design/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
