[libreoffice-design] Why are not all dialog boxes are resizable?

2015-10-19 Thread K-J LibreOffice

Hi all,
starting with a discussion on German ml [1] about different sizes on the
dialog box of "Export as PDF" in different UIs (bug 95178 [2]) Thorsten
recognizes that 275 dialog boxes aren't resizable, others are resizable.

Is there any reason why they aren't resizable or can they be switched to
resizable by default?

[libreoffice-design] Icon theme licenses

2015-10-19 Thread Yousuf 'Jay' Philips

Hi All,

Mirek has mentioned in the past that icon themes licensed under GPL cant
be included with libreoffice, but recently we have included 2 GPL
licensed icon themes in our repo (breeze, elementary), so i'm assuming
Mirek was mistaken in his assumption.

I'm bringing up this issue as the designer of the Kalahari icon theme
for LibreOffice, Mariano Gaudix, would like to upstream his work, as he
has been actively working on it and had previously asked about including
it in the past. The Kalahari icon theme comes in colored and monochrome
versions and it includes work from GPL-licensed Human and Faenza.

We talked about that last Fri on #libreoffice-design -- this was targeted
effort
of Adolfo Jayme to have all dialogs comply to HIGs

Sample commits:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=f7393810a7b716be3a2c99c86dc9d78bd834dbfa
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=dca47c4774a8373a7389268e3123bf8ebcf109c3

The rule, in this particular case, seemed to be "if there are no input fields
in the dialog, make it non-resizable". And, IIRC, PDF export dialog got a new
tab with input field(s) - the PDF signing tab - only after it has been made
non-resizable

So if someone wants to fix an easy hack (very easy, really), this is a perfect
opportunity, don't let it pass :)

Confirmation dialogs are never resizable on Windows (although I don''t find a
guideline for this statement right now [1]). And why should a user want to
resize the "Export to PDF" dialog? It adds a lot of complexity to the dialog
since min/max width/height have to be considered carefully, a grid layout
needs to be added, the properties have to be stored (per
user/workstation/company?) etc. And imagine the dialog, which either suddenly
grows in height when the width is being reduced or adds a scrollbar. So I
would rather turn the question into "Why is xy resizable?" (xy = options, for
instance; also the inbuilt file dialog is resizable but in this case for good
reasons). Anyway, good question for the guidelines. :-)

Hi guys,

how about discussing this on the ESC this week, if you can make it?
Personally, I'm not super-eager to deviate from this project's
established license practice (CC-BY/LGPL/MPL) - curiously, the
gnome-look page you link to even states Kalahari is MPL?

Cheers,
