Huh?
I think you intended to say the logo can be used only according to its
usage guidelines:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo/UsageGuidelines

But a lot of graphics can be done for the project without touching the
logo (most of the time we prefer to not use it at all).

I have scanned over the wiki pages for your group.

I have also checked out the design team group and the logo policy page

Cool

I will create some wallpapers and icons for starters, just so you guys
know I also know a fair bit about HTML/XHTML CSS, PHP and i am
currently learning the art of font creation.

You may be interested also by the website mockups Mairin did a lot of
work on:

One thing I am not too clear about is the submission of work, I
understand that currently I am not a contributing member and thus cannot
submit via the CLA but I can display my work on the wiki via hot
 linking. Is this correct?

Is the other way around: you cannot contribute until you agree to the
CLA (Contributor License Agreement).

As Nicu says, you cannot contribute until you've signed the CLA. You can
absolutely sign up for a Fedora account right now at

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts

There are different teams within that system. The Fedora design team
requires that you submit one piece of work for critique by the group
from our work item list on https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/report/1

We grant you membership in the team group in the account system upon
successful completion of the task.

Does that make more sense?

[Design-team] F12 Final wallpaper polish

2009-10-22 Thread Máirín Duffy
Hi,

Just as a head's up, myself, Nicu, Ian, and some other folks had some
discussion in IRC this morning about applying some polish to the
wallpaper for F12.

You can see some of the work-in-progress here:

http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/art/f12/oct%2020/

I'd love to hear your thoughts. I think we want to stay with the order
chaos concept; Nicu and I brainstormed a bit and I started taking this
direction where you have close-together/orderly bokeh bursting out onto
the left:

http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/art/f12/oct%2020/rain11.png

I would love to hear what you think - could this work for F12? How could
we push it further?

Thanks,

Would this require respinning the various artwork packages, or is
 this *just* the background?

I'm looking at just changing the background. This reworking goes off of
the bokeh that's already present in the various splashes etc. so they
shouldn't clash.

Cool! Here's some tips to help you work through the task:

- currently our banners are speced for 200px by 100px. Here's an
example: http://fedoraproject.org/static/images/banners/f11release.png

- they typically have rounded corners

- The font we use is MgOpen Modata. It's available in Fedora with 'yum
install mgopen-fonts -y'. You can also download it here:
http://www.zvr.gr/typo/mgopen/index

- If you need a copy of the logo email l...@fedoraproject.org to obtain
a copy and note why you're using it (you can refer to the ticket)

IMHO, it's __too__ busy. It does not make my desktop content hard to
find though (luckily), but I don't have much there... I also miss the
mosaic. As an image it looks awesome though.

As I said in IRC, I do like very much. I know there may be a desire to make it
more grey but I like it the way it is now, crisp and catching[1], rather than
depressing[2]. I'm using it now and you can easily distinguish the background
from the windows even on the busy areas.

I made a different way of creating the specs which have uneven edges to make
them realistic[3]. These take the image as a pattern and form circles with the
pattern as a stroke and add blur. Makes them look like small lenses. Under
those
there are also the ones which are whole circles made from the pattern.
(unfortunately inkscape has made individual copies of all patterns so the file
is huge)
