[Design-team] f13 rockets simple sketch

2010-01-14 Thread Máirín Duffy
Hi,

I had this idea in my head all week; I did a very simple sketch and
posted it to the f13 artwork wiki:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:F13-concept-rocketlines.png

It's a really rough sketch. The concept is really along the lines of
what all of our sketches have, I think. But the visual style I'd want to
go for is like this Modest Mouse album:

http://www.kolnstyle.com/lbmcvrz/Modest%20Mouse-GNFPQLBN.jpg

I think it would be cool for the trails of the rockets to have an
organic shape to them like they're flower stems or something.

Maybe a kooky idea, just something that's been in my head this week.

I love where that idea is going. I think you could make the rocket
trails do something like a DNA strand or something like that would be
cool. I also like the kind of one sidedness of the background.

I saw this and immediately thought whoa, rising rockets with trails
would make an awesome graphical boot.

I don't know how http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBheUFaRnr8 (the F10
boot animation, solar) was done or what it would take to get that
animated (and whether it'd be worth it) but it would be pretty sweet.

As do I. The desktop background works best which does not demand a
lot of attention. I'd much rather see something on the Fedora desktop
*inspired* by the release name than being a direct, verbal
interpretation. That inspiration aspect can keep the background more
figurative, subtle, and less likely to clash with graphical objects
like icons and windows.

That is what concepts are for. We put all ideas we have then we will
work on their best aspects.
So far, common elements on most concepts are rockets, space and light
traills.

Speaking about Mouses, that reminds a old Dreamcast videogame I own
called Chu Chu Rocket.

2010-01-14 Thread Camilo Mesias
Are there any notes on how to hack Plymouth animations, it would be
interesting to try to put something together.

Ideally I suppose there could be a common bit of software that could
be part of a screensaver or part of a boot animation / animated login
splash screen.

For rocket imagery I really like some of the shots from Gattaca, where
the rocket flight was an image associated with the aspirations of the
protagonist. The rockets were computer generated and usually appeared
behind some stark geometric architecture or simple coloured
backgrounds.

Charlie, our expert in the field, wrote some articles about this:
