Droid Sans typeface looks very crisp. I also tested Free Sans which
looks similar too.
Droid Sans makes sense. As for Modata look alike, Comfortaa seems to be
a good candidate. There is also Arista 2.0 but I don't think the license
is compatible with Fedora guideline.

P.S: I am working on a French speaking Fedora community magazine which
is matching the quoted outlook. It is expected to be released next week
featuring a cover page of F13 Goddard wallpaper. Stay tuned.

I think Cata is referring to the concepts for the F14 artwork. Is
that correct, Cata?

I thought we have such... I take a look at
http://poelstra.fedorapeople.org/schedules/f-14/f-14-design-tasks.html
and for me it was clear...
Else maybe you mean our marketing plan
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_plan but thats more like
textual stuff and not so much Design & Creative things.
What I can think of can be a more common idea not only to have the
points mentioned in the design-tasks itself, but also things that could
changed/adapted/etc. to the several Releases (e.g. Banner Designs, Icons
in wiki, etc.) and for the archive
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/Archive. Is this that what you
mean?

That should be linked at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F14_Artwork#Wallpapers I assume...

So, did I get something totally wrong?

We need initiate a project vision/ strategy.
This part of this process may involved extensive public and community input.
Maybe we need conceptual sketches, digital models to promote same concept.

Wow! Default Droid fonts for F14 would be so amazing! Hope we can get that
sorted! :)

+1 for that here, too -- find a Modata-like font with more
accent/diacritical coverage(*) for headlines, and use Droid Sans for
body text.

I think it's worth pointing out that the Fedora Desktop SIG has been
discussing moving Fedora 14 to default to Droid Sans, assuming some
remaining issues are worked out.

* * *
(*) That's what's meant by glyphs, right? Character coverage?

[Design-team] Fluxbox style

2010-06-07 Thread Andreas Wallberg
Hi Design Team!

I am a long-time Fluxbox user and recent Fedora convert who miss an
official Fedora style for Fluxbox. I have been playing around with the
colour palette from the Icon guidelines available over at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork/EchoIconGuidelines to create a
minimalistic (in the traditional spirit of fluxbox) yet appealing look
with a familiar "Fedora feel" to it. For speed and responsiveness, I
have chosen not to use pixmaps at all but will stick to the native
colour and gradient rendering in Fluxbox which is easily specified
with RGB codes.

However, I have a question:

The Clearlooks Metacity the Fedora icon themes clearly go hand in hand
in terms of the soft blue tones (are they based on the Tango
palette?). I am using the "Fedora Blues" for the windows and toolbar
in my draft but the colours look a tad bit off compared to icons,
scrollbar and other blueish widgets on the Gnome/Gtk desktop. So here
it goes: when creating a style from scratch like this with the aim of
inclusion in Fedora, should I prioritize an "official" Fedora
trademark palette (if there is one), which boosts the Fedora identity,
or the palette which integrates best with the default widgets and
icons (which I presume results in the smoothest experience for the
user)?

A draft for the theme is available here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1879450/Fedora/Fluxbox/fedora/theme.cfg

And a screenshot can be found here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1879450/Fedora/Fluxbox/fedora/1920x1200_fedora_fluxbox.png

Best regards,
Andreas
