Honestly, I think that with no sparkles at all it looks even better.

Nice, but I think it's a bit too contrasty for a default wallpaper.

(Adjusting contrast is pretty easy, however. Just be sure to use the
development version of GIMP in a high-bit-depth mode, so you won't lose
quality.)

Default wallpapers are supposed to provide something nice to look at,
but shouldn't distract from any content on top of the wallpaper.

So we discussed this in the meeting today. Sam, I'm waiting on the full
render without the sparkles you were working on (I think you said you
 were rendering to 4k?)

In the meanwhile, I poked around in Gimp and came up with this:

 http://i.imgur.com/e7xzyYC.png

It's basically the F22 wallpaper, with a triangular pixelation technique
applied in Gimp [1], then some color saturation added plus a vignette.

  Hi Máirín,

well, I really prefer nr. 6 too; by less dense you mean fewer or more
  evenly distributed on the surface?
The problem here is that the sparkles also generate the pattern in the
background, so fewer spots mean a darker bg. I'm not sure there is a way
to export the sparkles and the background separately, but I'll try that
  later.

IMHO, the right direction is in the even ones, 6-8-10. Let me know what
  do you think! :-)

I think I like test6 the best, but maybe less dense sparkles? Is it easy
enough to remove the sparkles and maybe we can play with different
sparkle configs in Gimp layered on top?

It looks great but it I think it would look even more awesome if the
shading applied in certain areas was removed. just to make the shapes
look more complete because it's bleeding out the edges off most of them.
