Exactly. I actually don't like the blue terminal - I think it will look better in Black anyway (more stylish). Is there exact guidelines defined to Echo Perspective or should the problems be worked out as they come? F.ex. when do we use the typical-Echo white outline? Hi ;) Thanks Nicu, glad to be here :) Martin, I have moved the icons like you said, I have worked a bit on the shadow on 22x22 and changed the 32x32 frame - it's better now :D Just refresh the images from before. I will now take a look at some more detailed icons in the big sizes. // Kris 2009/8/7 Martin Sourada martin.sour...@gmail.com On Thu, 2009-08-06 at 23:33 +0200, Kris Thomsen wrote: Hi Design-team, Echo Perspective artists! Hi again. My name is Kris Thomsen, I'm 18 years old and from a little country in Northern Europe called Denmark. I have used Linux since 2005 and this year I started to contribute to Fedora - as it is my favorite. I'm the Danish translation maintainer, but now I am almost finished all the translations for Fedora 12 and want another little side-project to contribute to. I have chosed Echo Perspective, as I really liked the first icons Martin S. made. I am new in this area (art, icons and Inkscape) and have worked on the user-desktop icon today and I am now confident enough to show it to you ;-) http://code-geek.baah.dk/Echo/user-desktop-kt.png http://code-geek.baah.dk/Echo/user-desktop-kt.svg Please come with comments on this icon - I hope you like it. And welcome to the Echo Project :) You've addressed already all the comments I gave you on IRC and the icon is very good. I think it would be also better if you made the frame in 32x32 also 1px (instead of the current 2px) wide, I think it will look better. Now what I hadn't noticed in the png -- move the 256x256 16px lower, the 48x48 icon 3px lower, the 32x32 2px lower, the 22x22 1px lower and make the shadow in 22x22 more visible by expanding it and making it more blurry. That's in order to be better aligned horizontally with and look more consistent with folder icons. If you'd like you can also work further on the two icons that are present on the desktop so they would look more like real icons, although this would be probably only for 256x256 and 48x48 -- in smaller sizes there isn't much place for adding more details ;-) Now for Luya, Nicu and others who might want to comment on the icon. I've suggested (along with other icons, but he chose this one) this icon to Kris when he asked if he could help with Echo Perspective and suggested that he use similar metaphor that is in GNOME-Colors [1] as opposed to current Echo metaphor (not that is very different). I believe it works better, and even though it is a little similar to video-display, due to the different contexts in which these two icons are used (device vs. directory/place) I believe they cannot be confused by users. Nicu, That was actually my plan :D But I don't think I like to give et rectangles other colors - I think it's just visually annoying. Maybe make one look at a desktop (the computer icon) and another like a folder, both of them simplified, of course and available only for 256x256. For smaller versions you can try just to change the color of the existing rectangles. -- nicu :: http://nicubunu.ro :: http://nicubunu.blogspot.com/ photography: http://photoblog.nicubunu.ro/ my Fedora stuff: http://fedora.nicubunu.ro/ ___ design-team mailing list design-team@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/design-team ___ design-team mailing list design-team@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/design-team

Martin, I really don't like text in icons :) It looks weird and ugly (I have tried). It looks okay without the bars. Simply refresh the earlier images. I like it and 48x48 works too. But I think you can drop the metallic bars (icon captions) on 256x256. +1, or alternatively you might try to render there some text, but the goal for it would not be to be readable, just that it would resemble text -- let inkscape render 'Computer' and 'Echo' text approximately in the size (meaning of course to have the same height not width) of the frames and tune the output to look satisfying to you.
