[Bug 30185] Rhythmbox uses excessive memory/Possible Leak?
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30185 Comment: After trying other media players I've discovered that it's not directly Rhythmbox. Just for more info, I am loading an m3u that contains all files found in my library that Rhythmbox uses. It's over 28,000 songs. beep-media-player shows none of this behaviour over about 3 hours. It's memory usage stays pretty close to where it starts. totem-gstreamer started at PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND 7658 dclarke 15 0 288m 41m 15m S4 4.2 6:54.95 totem ... after a few hours of playback ... Skipping backwards yeilds the same increase. I'm not sure which direction this should go, but it's definitely at a lower level than the applications themselves. gstreamer0.10 bug? -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 28798] new logout dialog interface issues
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28798 Comment: A somewhat unrelated problem with the current setup in Dapper is that the System->Shutdown->Suspend option logs the user out, then suspends, which is a very different action than if you use the gnome-panel logout button and select Suspend from that dialog. I'd consider myself an advanced computer user, and the diverging selection of logout/shutdown/etc dialogs are becoming rather ridiculous and difficult to follow. :-) -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 29050] 6.04 (Dapper) doesn't recognize working printer
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29050 Comment: Very similar experience here with an Epson CX-3200 which has worked fine under Warty through to Breezy. (Though requiring manual selection of "USB Printer #1" on the Properties Connection tab to work under Breezy. I think this may have been more automatic under earlier releases) Using Dapper, when the Add a Printer wizard appears, there is no printer detected and if I try to specify a port then no USB ports are listed for selection. Just LPT #1, Parallel Port #1 (Epson or Canon) and hp no_device_found. So I can't get the printer to run at all under Dapper using the gui. Running gnome-cups-manager produced little output; the most I got on one run was "IPP request failed with status 1030" repeated a couple of times. [Bug 29720] Gnome hangs DVD reading DVD+RW disc
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29720 Comment: Now I know the problem is in format of DVD, written in Windows program. I burned in Windows DVD+RW discs with AVI files. I used Sonic RecordNow with default settings. Type: Track at Once (TAO), Open Mode: Mode1 Filesystem: ISO+Joliet (106 characters) Write Once DVD Compatibility: I would like to use discs for more than 1 recording (.. but fewer DVD drives will be able to read the disc) Also I tryed to burn AVIs in GnomeBaker. The proccess of burning was without errors. AVI files on DVD+RW were read OK! I saw settings Joliet, Rock Ridge. I have drive SONY DVD RW DW-D56A. I haven't tryed DVD-RWs yet, but CDs and DVD+Rs are OK. Also I tryed DVD+RW burned in DVD-Video format written in other Windows program. It's OK too. Description of problem: Every time I open disc with AVIs written in RecordNow, in Ubuntu I get icon of DVD-RW appeared on Gnome desktop. After opening icon in Nautilus I see it tryes to read the disc. I see preview of some AVI files, but not all. It seems to me Nautilus try to read contents of all disc but without success. If I open AVI file on disc, Totem shows movie only 2 minutes and then jumps to beginning of film. After some time Nautilus hangs DVD and I can't forcefully unmount it. I get unmount error. I saw the settings. DMA is on, all codecs installed. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 30185] Rhythmbox uses excessive memory/Possible Leak?
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30185 Task: ubuntu rhythmbox Severity: Critical => Normal Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Comment: Thanks for the report. Does this only happen with rhythmbox, or can it occur with other music players? You might like to try to profile the memory usage of rhythmbox. Install the 'valgrind' package and run the following command from the terminal (all one line): valgrind --tool=massif --depth=5 --alloc-fn=g_malloc --alloc-fn=g_realloc --alloc-fn=g_try_malloc --alloc-fn=g_malloc0 --alloc-fn=g_mem_chunk_alloc rhythmbox Rhythmbox will be very slow, but let it run for a little while. When you close rhythmbox, you should get a couple of files written to your current directory (called massif something). Open the ps file for a nice graph of memory allocation by the process over time. This *might* shed some light on the problem, I don't know. Also, I've reduced the severity until this can be confirmed. Thanks again -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 30164] New shutdown UI confusing to old users?
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30164 Comment: We already considered a lot of options :) And splitting these two dialogs seem to be the best solution. If you want a dialog with all options at once, you can use the logout applet (it will be placed in the top-right corner in the default dapper layout, or maybe it already is). I'm not sure we should stop enhancing the UI just because experienced users might get surprised by the changes :) -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 30220] Problem with automatic start NIC adapters after update Dapper Drake Flight CD3
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30220 Affects: hal hal-device-manager (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I installed Kubuntu Dapper Drake Flight CD3 and everything worked well. I think, there was a hotplug (I hope, it was there) and in /etc/netwok/interfaces I had for booth NIC cards allow-hotplug, for automatic start after boot Operating System. Next day I made aptitude update; aptitude upgrade and NIC cards do not start automatic after boot Operating System and look at that: I think that hotplug was repalced with hal daemon (if hotplug and hal daemon is equal in functions) and happening this now: If we add in booth NIC cards auto eth0 and auto eth1 (replaced from older allow-hotplug eth0 and allow-hotplug eth1), so NIC cards start automatic, but packet traffic is freeze. Route tables, DNS, gateways, ... everything is filled correctly, but no packet traffic (this do not help: ifdown NICs, ifup NICs and modprobe -r net_drivers and again modprobe net_drivers). And continue listening: If we remove auto eth0 a auto eth1 and after booting Operating System we manually type ifup eth0 and ifup eth1, so NIC cards starts and everything working right. Do You know, where is the problem? It is injured by hal daemon, or beceasue hotplag is disappered? I think, there is a bug, because with manual start without auto eth0 and auto eth1 NIC cards working - I think, something do bad things, that driving this commands auto eth0 and auto eth1 in /etc/network/interfaces. It was happend in Kubuntu Dapper Drake Flight CD3 after aptitude update; aptitude upgrade. Your's Sincerely, Petr Novák `'ubu (dot] petr /at\ seznam [dot) cz".
