Seb,

This bug has been fixed in the upstream. Is this fix going to be released in

[Bug 31295] Busy cursor flickers alot

2006-02-14 Thread Kristoffer Lundén
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31295

Comment:
Ok, after much digging and research it turns out that this seems to be a
bug with Nvidia and their drivers. It's the hardware cursor that is
borked in some way.

Setting SWCursor to "true" fixes the issue... for normal dekstop use,
but then it doesn't work in any accelerated environment such as video or
3D.

I guess that means that the bug is invalid for this package at least,
sorry to have bothered (but thankful for any tips). Still, perhaps a
non-animated alternative could be provided by default as stop-gap?

[Bug 31461] volume icon shown even if user has no access rights on it

2006-02-14 Thread Markus Bertheau
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31461

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
USB volumes are mounted automatically, and only one user has access
rights to it, including directory read rights. When you're logged in
with two users, the volume icon appears on the second user's desktop,
too, but he doesn't have the rights to look at its contents; the volume

[Bug 29050] 6.04 (Dapper) doesn't recognize working printer

2006-02-14 Thread Richard Lance
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29050

Comment:
Same here. USB locally-atteched Epson CX5100 which is fine under Breezy. HAL
and lsusb show it in all its glory, but the new printer dialogue on GNOME and
KDE can't find it. I shouldn't have to use localhost:631 in the 21st century,
but there isn't even a USB port option there.
This is being posted about at half-hourly intervals on the Dapper forum by GDE
and KDE users, and still no response. Can we make it critical, please, and have
an update?
I suspect that Gutenprint has a hand in the problem. There is a bug filed about
Gutenprint drivers not loading.

[Bug 31441] the disk space warning when I start GNOME is wrong

2006-02-14 Thread Chris Moore
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31441

Comment:
It just occurred to me that the "/ for ubuntu" is probably some kind of
disk label. The partition which is currently mounted as /mnt/breezy is
indeed "/ for ubuntu" when I boot into breezy - it's the partition which
I originally installed warty onto. I've since installed dapper onto a
different partition, which I assume is also now labelled as "/ for
ubuntu". I wasn't booted into breezy when I saw the warning, however,
and so the partition it was warning about wasn't "/" at all, but was
"/mnt/breezy" at that time.

It would be clearer if gnome-volume-manager would refer to the mount
point of the filesystem rather than an obscure label which most users
are probably unaware of.

The warning about being short of space on / for ubuntu has ubuntu in

See attached screenshot - / is 67% used, but the warning tells me it's
93% used.

I don't have a partition which is 93% used according to df. I have one
at 94% - maybe it's getting that one confused with /? If so, it would
be better if it used the same rounding algorithm as 'df' does.

[Bug 31421] After opening a picture (Gif, Jpeg, ...) from Nautilus, I try to print it. An error message " The eog application has closed" appear and it freezes until I close.

Sorry, but after more researches, I found out my problem is actually already
known.
It matches with this bug report : Bug #27239

The printer is a canon, working with the HP Jet Direct.

It works well with Cups (as described in the other report) but it
freezes every time I try to configure it through gnome-cups-manager.

And for the same reason, Eog, wich probably use gnome-cups-manager,
freezes.

Here is the kind of exit I get when I launch gnome-cups-manager with the
terminal and try to open the printer icon :

[Bug 31434] [Dapper] Moving tabs sometimes causes flickering

2006-02-14 Thread Trouilliez vincent
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31434

Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I noticed that when I have several documents opened at the same time,
and I grab the tab of one of the documents to move it around, the tab
sometimes "flicker"/hesitates, as you cross the boundary between two
tabs.

I tried to narrow it down, and found a way to reproduce the problem. I
looks like the problems is related to the width of the tabs (hence the
length of the file names) relative to each other:

1) create 3 new (empty) documents, and call them for example A.txt,
AA.txt nad AAA.txt, so that the tabs will all be of a different length.

2) grab "A.txt", and sloolwy move it's tab : you normally see some
flickering.

3) grab "AAA.txt" and do the same : there is no fickering.

It seems that the flickering only occurs, if the tab that you are
moving, is narrower/shorter than the tab you are trying to jump over so
to speak.

For example switching from A - (AA) - AAA to (AA) - A - AAA will cause
no flicker, but switching to A - AAA - (AA) will.

[Bug 29404] gdm should support alternate config file for cdd branding

2006-02-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29404

Task: ubuntu gdm
Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs
 Status: Unconfirmed => Fix Released

Comment:
This upload fixes the issue:

 gdm (2.13.0.8-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version:
 - Because the main gdm.conf file is now read-only, contains distro
defaults and is not to be edited by the user, the file has been
moved to ${datadir}/gdm/defaults.conf (also factory-gdm.conf is
   now %{datadir}/gdm/factory-defaults.conf).
 - Lots of performance issues with the GDM sockets connection improved.
Now the code deals much better with failures, and better debug is
   printed to the log.
 - Fix gdmdynamic so it supports up to hundreds of displays rather than
   just a dozen or so.
 - gdm-restart, gdm-safe-restart, gdm-stop, and gdm.spec now use
gdmflexiserver to get config data rather than trying to grep and
   awk the config file directly.
 - Fix Xsession script so zenity calls work.
 - Lots of improvements to the GDM docs.
 - fix language and session menu options (Ubuntu: #31125)
 - fix gdmflexiserver to run without using gtk when using --command
   (Ubuntu: #27913)
   * debian/init:
 - allow cdd to use an alternative config, patch by Oliver Grawert
   (Ubuntu :#29404)
   * debian/patches/01_xconfigoptions.patch:
 - updated
   * debian/patches/11_powermanagement.patch:
 - updated
   * debian/rules:
 - use --with-defaults-conf to put the configuration file to /etc

[Bug 17611] "Become an Administrator" calls gksudo with unrecognised option

2006-02-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/17611

Task: ubuntu gnome-cups-manager
   Severity: Major => Normal

Comment:
I tried this again with a fresh user on a reasonably unmodified breezy
installation, and it just works. (Same for dapper). Did you try this with a
fresh user profile?

Lowering severity since it does not seem to affect everybody.

Can you please do the following:

  strace -f -e execve gnome-cups-manager

and paste the output here? As soon as you select 'become Administrator' the
program will bail out since strace can't trace the setuid program any more, but
the output should contain the call to gksudo.

Thanks,

Martin

[Bug 31402] gnome-session properties hangs, when writing to files it doesn't have permisions to modify

2006-02-14 Thread Andrzej Mendel
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31402

Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
This is actualy a two part problem.
Firstly, gnome-session-properties hangs when trying to delete program defined
in /usr/share/autostart from startup program list, because ordinary users don't
have write pemission on these files. strace gives thousands of these lines:
unlink("/usr/share/autostart/gnome-power-manager.desktop") = -1 EACCES
(Permission denied)
While it should show an error message and let the user carry on.

Another problem is that user can't disable these startup programs
withous becoming root and moving .desktop files out of the way. I had to
cope with kicker starting alongside gnome-panel for several days and it
was really annoying.

Oh right. No, I have not tried Dapper. I prefer
not to experiment too much with my stable
machine right now and I only have a slow internet
access anyway. So I probably won't upgrade to
Dapper until it's stable (Apr 2006). Sorry about
that.

Anyway, if anybody wishes to try to reproduce
the bug to verify whether it's fixed or not in Dapper,
it should easy:

- install the Esperanto language Packages (probably
not all of these are necessary):
 language-pack-eo
 language-pack-eo-base
 language-support-eo
 iesperanto

- try to change language either in the GNOME
language selector (From top menu bar:
Sytem -> Administration -> Language Selection)
  or when loggin-in from gdm.

- observe that Esperanto language is not available
even though packages were installed (see screenshot
attached a in previous comment). I'd expect
to be able to switch to Esperant language.

Public bug report changed:

Comment:
Right, sorry. I had actually meant the latest 'dapper' packages. We
tend to fix bugs in the development version first before evaluating if
the fixes should go into a stable release or not.

[Bug 30849] Kde desktop applications started by gnome-session

2006-02-14 Thread Václav Šmilauer
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30849

Comment:
We did a dist-upgrade yesterday and the problem seems to be fixed only
in some of the kde packages. Problematic files still are:
irkick.desktop, kalarm.tray.desktop, khotkeys.desktop,
kalarmd.autostart.desktop, kgpg.desktop.

I fixed them using the script below; but the autostart entries are
copied over at startup, for whatever reason, to ~/.gnome2/session and
have to be deleted by hand through gnome-session-properties from there
also.

E.

[CODE]
#!/bin/sh
for i in /usr/share/autostart/*.desktop;do
[ -z $( grep OnlyShowIn $i ) ] || continue;
echo KDE: $i; cp -a $i $i~
echo 'OnlyShowIn=KDE;' >> $i
done
[/CODE]

Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31373

The new icon theme had lot of small glitches and changes to respect the
freedesktop specification. upstream has delayed its use to the next
cycle because it was introduced a bit late for that cycle and created
some issues for the desktop
