[Bug 31675] Problem when making many users with users admin. tool at one time
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31675 Comment: Thanks for the explanation. I tried to reproduce this with ten users (named 'one' to 'ten'), but the users were created normally, with no freeze. Which version of the gnome-system-tools package do you have installed? Could you run the application in a terminal, recreate the freeze, and see if any useful error text is printed to the terminal please? The command is: sudo users-admin Also, in another terminal, try the following command after the freeze has happened: cat /etc/passwd | grep username (where 'username' is replaced with the name of a user, e.g cuatro) If the user has been added, it should appear in the output of that command. [Bug 7817] gdm dialogs seem to use wrong font
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/7817 Comment: I was waiting on upstream comments for the GTK theme. We can set a GtkRc custom theme for gdm but it's not theme specific and there is no UI option to change it (you have to edit the gdm.conf by hand), which means that if the user decide to change his greeter theme he will get a non- matching GTK theme for the menus on it. We could hack GDM to have the GTK to use listed by the GDM theme (as a XML option), but I'm not sure on how much coding that would require, I've planned to investigate on that next week -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 31881] Nautilus always starts a Desktop unsorted
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31881 Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: See attached image. This is how it always looks for me at each login, which means I have to invoke Clean Up By Name and that gets pretty annoying after a while. Not to mention the bad impression it gives. cartman is a SMB share on another computer, gamemaker.nu is a SSH connection, if that could mean anything, since one seems to be sorted alright and not the other. Titled the bug this way because I sometimes switch Desktops by symlinking ~/Desktop to new places, and each new Desktop is always completely unsorted. This is more of a wishlist type of fix, but if it could be in the same fix everything would be excellent. Something of an auto-clean right after the Desktop has loaded. Could probably be fixed by Bug #20284, which wants to always keep the Desktop auto-arranged, but it could also be a separate issue so I file this separately. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 31886] Alarms never come up if evolution wasn't running when the alarm was due
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31886 Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: This severely limits usefulness of alarms. On other systems (Outlook/win32, iCal/OS X and even Groupwise) if the program is not open or the computer is turned off when an alarm is due, then the next time you turn the computer on and open the PIM program the alarms come up as overdue. All it would need to do is ask itself Are there any alarms that are in the past but have not been responded to, i.e. snoozed or cancelled? and if so, open them. Without this, you're reliant on leaving your computer on and evolution open all the time if you want alarms to actually remind you of things, such as birthdays etc (one of which I recently forgot :( despite having set an alarm). This is not a workable situation for a desktop or laptop machine and compares poorly with other platforms. Ideally alarms should work if the computer is on and logged in, even if evolution is not running (this is the case with MS Office 9x and later, and with iCal on Macs) and would seem to be implementable since the gnome panel is already running the clock which accesses evolution data (a very nice feature) such as your appointments. Could this functionality be added to that? It's such a basic thing, I don't know whether this functionality *is* there but isn't working, or whether it's a missing feature. I'm using Breezy with Evolution 2.4.1. If there's any more info I can provide to help or anything I can try, just let me know. I'm not root on this box, so anything requiring root access may take me a few days to reply as I have to wait for the administrator to be free. thanks very much -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31799 Comment: BTW I do understand that's a feature request, but upstream tends to have difficulties to cope with the numbers of bugs and feature requests so we try to filter useful ones or things that can be workarounded when possible. [Bug 31675] Problem when making many users with users admin. tool at one time
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31675 Comment: Hi again, Phil! It's a pity that you didn't go on introducing users. I reproduced what you did (10 users from 'one' to 'ten', home directory '/home/taller2/$user') and it doesn't freeze. I checked also /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow, and everything alright. [The reason that I told you that when creating over 5 or 6 users in one time it didn't work, was that me and other student didn't introduce more than 5 or 6 users at a time (and no problem), and the rest created the 14 in one time (and freezed). I should say that in one number between 6 and 15, the system couldn't create so many users. I'm sorry not to have explained it correctly in the first time]. But after the successful creation of 10 users, I did the same again, but now with 15 users (this time in greek :-) 'ena', 'dio' up to 'dekapente', and home directory '/home/taller3/$user'), and it freezed! In fact, it doesn't freeze; it's like if it gets trapped in a never-ending “while (1)” loop, because you can close the window nicely. Finally, I did it again with other 15 users ('un', 'deux', 'trois'..., home dir: '/home/room/$user'), but starting from a gnome-terminal ($ sudo users-admin ), and no message in the terminal (again “freezed”). This last fact proves that it must be in a kind of infinite loop, waiting for something. To be more explicit, you close the window with one click, but in the terminal it looks like it didn't notice, so you have to do in the terminal a CTRL-C. In both cases (15 users to be created), no user is created, as I could check in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow files. For your information, my gnome-system-tools package version is 1.4.0-0ubuntu10, and users-admin version is 1.4.0 I recommend you to do it again with 15 (or more) users. Hope this info. is enough to give some light to this bug. Cheers, Rafael. PD.: I have some screenshots of all processes, if you need them. If that's so, tell me and I'll send them to you. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
