[Bug 34813] gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2006-03-14 Thread Phil Bull
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34813

Comment:
gedit does save a file called 'filename.ext~' when you edit a document,
so it could be this which is causing the problem.

Can you update to the latest, 2.14.0-0ubuntu1, gedit version please?

[Bug 34989] Deskbar applet does not search bookmarks (handler never loaded)

2006-03-14 Thread nzjrs
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34989

Affects: deskbar-applet (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Hey,

Deskbar applet ships with a handler to search in a users bookmarks. It
autodetects if a users default browser is firefox or epiphany

This autodetection is broken and causes the bookmark search handler not
to load.

Reason:
BrowserMatch.py checks the gconf key /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/ for the
presence of either the firefox of epiphany string and loads the appropriate
handler

Unfortunately the said key contains gnome-www-browser %s so neither
extension is loaded

I presume that gnome-www-browser is an intermediary which checks the
/gnome/applications/browser/exec gconf key for which web browser to
launch

To Repeat:
1) Remove deskbar from the panel
2) execute /usr/lib/deskbar-applet/deskbar-applet -w
3) Notice how none of the epiphany, galeon or firefox/mozilla handlers are
loaded

[Bug 34987] HP Deskjet 6127 reverts to Deskjet 612C driver

2006-03-14 Thread Pete Deffendol
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34987

Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When I try to configure an HP Deskjet 6127 printer by choosing HP
(HPLIP) as manufacturer, and my printer model, the printer selection
reverts back to "Deskjet 612C" and the cdj550 driver instead of hpijs.
Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Printers from Administration menu
2. Choose New Printer
3. Choose Network Printer, HP JetDirect, enter Host, and click Forward
4. Choose HP (HPLIP) as manufacturer (why isn't it just under HP?)
5. Choose HP Deskjet 6127. Driver is selected as hpijs.
6. Click Apply
7. Right-click new printer and choose Properties
8. Click on Driver tab
9. ERROR - Model is selected as Deskjet 612C and Driver is cdj550.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gnome-print';
however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

[Bug 34979] Totem will no play DVDs: No reason.

Description:

the DVD. I get this error (This is perhaps my favorite error ever):

No reason."
If I then go to Movie... Play Disc RADIOHEAD, I will get a more descriptive
error message:

[Bug 34813] gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

I ran gedit in terminal and theres no error output.

Also the weird thing is that the permissions on the file change from the

new file and dumping text to it.

gedit 2.13.93-0ubuntu1

You can download them directly or add:

deb http://neutronic.mine.nu/ dapper/

to your /etc/apt/sources.list

I also have incremented the Ubuntu version to 2 so the installed package
will not get overriden at each dist-upgrade if is no update to that
particular package. I wonder why I didn't think of that earlier.

Of course it's for people convenience only, at your own risk, might
break everything, and so on. I don't provide support for the package
but it is the same as the Ubuntu package with the evdev patch applied so
it's not much risk.

[Bug 34966] Alarms do not work in Evolution

2006-03-14 Thread Paul Smith
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34966

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
No matter where I create my alarms (either in my Personal calendar or in
my Exchange calendar) I don't get any notification. In previous
versions of Evolution, this worked great and I would get a dialog pop up
at a preset time before the appointment (I set this to 5 minutes).
Without this feature I might as well use the Open Web Access feature of
Exchange; Evolution is not giving me anything extra (and it's pretty
buggy in general).

I definitely do have the box asking for an alarm to be checked, both in
the general preferences AND in the specific appointment. I also have my
system on all the time, and running Evolution all the time, so it's not
anything to do with not generating alarms that went by while the system
was off. I can create an appointment to happen in a few minutes, in any
of my calendars, and never get the alarm.

Comment:
Sebastian Dröge wrote:

> mplayer and gst0.10 have the same problem from what I see...

The mplayer bug may not be the same one, as it exibits different
behaviour (now that I watched the screen). mplayer throws up a video
window for a moment with some noisy macroblocks - it plays my longer
nonredistributable sample just fine. So it looks like a gstreamer 0.10
problem only. Although the mplayer video thing could possibly be caused
by misinitialising something in liba52 I suppose.

The sample I've uploaded *may* be corrupted judging by the mplayer
problem - but it has the same problem with another nonredistributable
file that xine and gstreamer 0.8 play fine. So my leaning is that the
uploaded sample *should* work.

[Bug 33087] gedit crashes when restart after update is forced

2006-03-14 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33087

Comment:
I can't actually do much more testing unless you can give me a way to
trigger the restart icon in the notification bar that doesn't involve
real package upgrades. I've tried downgrading/upgrading various packages
and it doesn't turn up so I need some other way (ideally by editing some
file) in order to test this.

However this bug has two parts. There are times a crash doesn't happen
but gedit still quits without putting up a warning dialog (only when a
restart is forced from the notification bar). For this part I won't be
able to give you backtrace.

I honestly can't remember what gedit I had at the time of filing
although I'm fairly sure I've seen it with the gedit I have at the
moment (2.13.93-0ubuntu1 ).

I kind of expected this and I must say the new iconset looks really

Thanks for the clarification and maybe in the future I can in one way or

Comment:
Thanks for the report.

What versions of the following packages do you have installed?

gedit
libgnome-vfs0
libgnome-vfs-common
libsmbclient

If you run gedit in the terminal and reproduce this issue, are there any
useful error messages?

Thanks

I agree. This (pre-selecting) is the behaviour in other applications
with similar search dialogs, such as OpenOffice.org.

Thanks for the report.

I am unable to confirm this issue, with latest Dapper updates (nautilus
2.14.0-0ubuntu1). 'Text Editor' does appear in the 'Open with Other
Application...' list for me.

Do you still have this issue with the latest updates? If so, is Text
Editor present in the Applications Menu?

Thanks again

[Bug 33087] gedit crashes when restart after update is forced

2006-03-14 Thread Phil Bull
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33087

Comment:
Thanks for the report.

It might be tricky to get a backtrace for this one. Could you run gedit
in a terminal with the following command and reproduce the crash,
please?

gedit > ~/gedit_output.txt

If gedit produces any output relating to the crash, hopefully it should
be captured in 'gedit_output.txt' in your home directory. If it is,
please attach the file.

What version of the gedit package do you have installed?

Thanks

[Bug 29402] Downloading files of unknown size in Epiphany uses too much CPU time

2006-03-14 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29402

Comment:
I just tested this with the latest Dapper updates, and Epiphany does
still do this.

According to top, during the download epiphany is using ~70% of the CPU
while xorg is using ~24.2%. When idle, these don't even show up on the
list, or stay below a few percent.

[Bug 29402] Downloading files of unknown size in Epiphany uses too much CPU time

2006-03-14 Thread Hezekiah Carty
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29402

Comment:
I will test this soon (I'm currently booted in to Breezy). I have seen
the problem recently, but I have not tested it with the latest Epiphany
version in Dapper.

When the problem occurs though, the CPU usage goes to ~100% for the
duration of the download even with nothing else running in the
background, and CPU usage drops back down to normal (0-3%) after the
download completes.

2006-03-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/25653

Comment:
Argh, it additionally scans /proc/bus/usb/devices, how ugly.

Thus, the visor_devices_timeout() function needs to be rewritten to
parse sysfs instead to find out about devices; or even better, use
/dev/tty* instead of the raw devices. Too bad that gnome-pilot is not
maintained upstream any more. :/

[Bug 34900] desktop icon inconsistency

2006-03-14 Thread Mark Shuttleworth
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34900

Comment:

Good catch. Looks like the left-hand two are the same, at different
scaling levels. The third looks like the emblem-desktop being added to
the normal folder icon. We can make the emblem-desktop be the same as
the desktop icon very easily.

Separately, I don't think our desktop icon is very clear, I almost
prefer the Gnome one, though the Gnome palette is too muted.

Aah, that explains a lot. Indeed /proc/bus/usb is deprecated. The USB

be fully compatible) should be used.

[Bug 34916] Applications menu entry does not include functional description

2006-03-14 Thread Phil Bull
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34916

Comment:
This is a very minor issue. However, providing more/better information
to the user would allow them to identify the purpose and potential uses
of Eclipse without having to run it first. Also, this will allow the
entry to conform with the style of other Applications Menu entries.

My suggestions are these:

Name: Eclipse [IDE|Development|Development Environment]
Tooltip: Develop applications in a variety of different programming languages

Thanks

[Bug 21374] volume keys unpredictable on powerbook

2006-03-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/21374

Comment:
 pbbuttonsd (0.7.2-1ubuntu3) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * src/module_powersave.c:
 - Ignore lid and power change events if gnome-power-manager is running.
   * src/module_alsamixer.c:
 - Ignore keyboard volume keys if gnome-settings-daemon is running.
 - Should partly fix Malone #21374.
   * Patch copied to debian/ubuntu-patches/pbbuttonsd.check-gnome.patch.
   * pbbuttonsd.conf:
 - Restore default Mute key to uncripple pbbuttonsd for non-Gnome
   environments.
 - Use ALSA mixer, not OSS.

Does this dapper version make it any better?
