Thanks for your bug. We did keep shipping mini-commander for some time but got 
complain from upstream which really recommends to switch to deskbar applet. 

As you pointed auto-completion works. For the things it doesn't need to do, you 
can select to the properties what you want to do. The memory footprint is a bit 
bigger but nowhere from beeing "huge", there is some discussions on the GNOME 
desktop list about that, feel free to read them, we don't intend to rediscuss 
that here. 

Some reasonnable extra memory usage is not enough to go against upstream 
decision to ship an unmaintained piece of software. deskbar-applet is much 
nicer, maintained, recommanded by upstream we will keep shipping it by default, 
I reject that feature request. Feel free to fork the mini-commander code and do 
an universe package if you think that's worth it though

This might be because I have cleaned out dangling symlinks in
/etc/alternatives after some cronjob keapt sending mails about broken
links there...

Panel started working a few days ago. Since then I've updated to 2.14, and 
gnome-settings-daemon still dies.
I've tried starting it manually. Then it outputs some stuff that completely 
messes up the terminal (changes some code-page or whatever), so that terminal 
is dead.
If I start it with "gnome-settings-daemon 2> file2 > file", it still messes up 
the temrinal, but the output is in file (stdout) (separator-lines added by me):

I can confirm this.

I have a Canon Powershot A510, which used to work fine with F-Spot and
Gthumb when I had my previous Ubuntu install.

Today I connected it to my PC, currently using Flight 5, with a USB
cable. Gthumb detected it and came up with the dialog “A camera has been
detected”. So in Gthumb's import dialog, I chose 'Import', then an error
message appeared in the import dialog, “The path 'file:///DCIM/107CANON'
is not absolute.”. My photos are downloaded to my harddisk though. When
I try to open the imported photos on my hd, Nautilus gives me the
following message:

“Cannot open img_0781.jpg

The filename "img_0781.jpg" indicates that this file is of type "JPEG
image". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type
"plain text document". If you open this file, the file might present a
security risk to your system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received
the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the
correct extension for "plain text document", then open the file
normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific
application for the file.”

Also note that the exported photos are 0 bytes in size.


I just tried importing photos from my cam in F-Spot, and F-Spot works
fine. And if I'm correct F-Spot also uses libgphoto2, so the problem is
probably related to Gthumb.

The 'Take screenshot' program doesn't have the option to set a delay for
taking the screenshot in the GUI anymore. It was possible in the
previous GNOME 2.12. I have to use the command line for that now. Is
this another attempt of the GNOME team at feature assassination, because
they think the interface is too difficult? This delay functionality
shouldn't be hidden in the CLI, it is important if you want to take a
screenshot of a dropdown menu, for example.

Indeed, it happens when ANY attempt to bring up the file requester
happens: for example, "Save as" causes the same segfault. If I load the

Description:
Before reinstalling Dapper Flight 5, I backupped my Epiphany bookmarks
from my old Dapper install, I exported it to both Epiphany .rdf and
Mozilla html. When I had Dapper installed, Epiphany refused to import
from those files (gave an error message that the file was corrupt, don't
remember exactly). Then I tried Firefox. Firefox couldn't import the
html file either, but it could import the rdf. Then in Epiphany I
imported bookmarks from Firefox, so in the end I managed to get my
bookmarks imported with a workaround. But it's strange that Epi can't
import it's own exported files.

My exported bookmarks are these:

I remember manually compiling the deskbar applet from source when I was using 
Breezy. I could then search using my smart bookmarks, for example typing “wp 
ubuntu”, then it would open a new tab in Epiphany and search Wikipedia for 
Ubuntu. However, I can't figure out how to do it in Dapper, where Deskbar is 
integrated in GNOME 2.14. I can't find an
extension for it in the Deskbar preferences.

Description:
I have set a few bookmarks to remote servers in Nautilus. I've also
added their passwords to the password wallet so that when I click on a
bookmark it connects directly. Great!

However, it also tries (and fails) to connect at other times when it
should not. For example, when I open a .tgz file by clicking on it and
then try to extract a file. Presumably it opens the file dialogue which
shares settings with Nautilus, and tries to access the bookmarked sites.

When I press Cancel it keeps insisting, and asks for the password for
each bookmarked site repeatedly. This of course looks bad, but more it's
more disturbing that it's trying to connect in the first place.

As a user it concerns me that my system is trying to connect to a remote
server when I haven't asked it too. When else might Nautilus be
connecting to the wrong place by accident. Some of the remote folders I
have bookmarked are directly exposed on the web, so I can worry that one
of my private files from my desktop might somehow accidentally appear on
the web.

I can confirm this behaviour on my Dapper too. As Jean-Christophe said,
it seems to only happen when playing DIVX, and to randomly crash the
system. When it doesn't crash the system, only totem crashes and
displays an X error in the terminal (something like "bad match"). I
don't have the exact error message because I can't take the risk to
crash my system right now. If you really need it, ask me and I'll try to
reproduce it later.

When using the icon view in Nautilus and selecting a folder, one can't
really see the selection.  (It is visible from the label, but that's
overly subtle.)  This seems to be because our light orange highlight
colour was selected to be essentially the same as the orange folder
icon.  One way to fix this may be to tone down the orange a tad more.

Description:
gnome-screensaver has recently started activating while I'm in the
middle of web browsing (while I'm actively using the mouse) and using
evolution  (while I'm actively using the keyboard or mouse). I think
I've seen it do it in nautilus, too.

It just did it again as I was typing this sentence. I'm not sure how to
debug this, but I'll write out my settings here for gnome-screensaver:

Screensaver: GLText
Set session as idle after: 5 minutes
Active screensaver when session is idle: Yes
Lock screen when screensaver is active: No.

Description:
I've attached a screenshot that demonstrates this, but it's a little
difficult to see.

When clicking on the navigation buttons above the left panel, they  get
weird artifacts on them when going up and down the dir structure. The
artifacts disappear as one mouses over the buttons.

To recreate the effect in the attached image, open multiple folders as
shown in the image, and then click on the higher level one. The lower
dirs get the strange images (which disappear with a mouse over).

Description:
In Preferences -> Sessions automatically save changes to session is not
enabled by default. I thought it was the plan that it would be enabled
in Dapper (I thought a Ubuntu dev said so in a comment on a bugreport a
long time ago). Why would you not want your session saved? It useful
functionality and should be enabled by default.

Description:
I originally reported this as bug #32702 against openoffice, but it
seems gimp is the root of it.

When you grab a screenshot using gimp's File -> Aqcuire -> Screen Shot,
you get an image with different DPI settings in X and Y. There may be a
good reason for this, but it causes problems when trying to import it to
applications more focused on printing, like openoffice. The image then
appears stretched.

Description:
Since a week or two, my multimediakeys stopped working, the ones on my
notebook-keyboard as well those on my usb-logitech-keyboard.

Gnome-keybinding-properties recognises the keycodes when configuring the
keybindings, but pressing the keys afterwards doesn't do anything.

Running /etc/acpi/mutebtn.sh, volupbtn.sh and voldownbtn.sh in a shell
doesn't do anything either...

On the other hand, xev doesn't seem to recognize the different keys,
it's output is always like this, no matter what (multimedia)key I press:

FocusOut event, serial 26, synthetic NO, window 0x3c1,
mode NotifyGrab, detail NotifyAncestor

FocusIn event, serial 26, synthetic NO, window 0x3c1,
mode NotifyUngrab, detail NotifyAncestor
