[Bug 34159] Keyboard focus get lost in Gnome panel

2006-03-18 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34159

Comment:
Yes, with cursor I mean this black dotted rectangle which is appears
around an icon if you have icons on your panel. See my screenshot where
I highlighted the black dotted rectangle with a red rectangle.

Right - what I mean is that you CAN navigate with cursor left/right
through your panel. But if you press for example 20 times cursor right,
this small black rectangle gets lost and you're not able to navigate
through the panel any more.

I'm not disabled but sometimes it's faster to navigate with the keyboard
than with your mouse. I think it is also important for disabled persons
but I haven't talked with one, though.

[Bug 35448] gnome-screensaver and zsnes does not work together

2006-03-18 Thread Andreas Eriksson
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35448

Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
If I'm playing a game in zsnes noone of the keys I press or mouse
movements I make gets registered with gnome-screensaver, so after the
timeout I set in gnome-screensaver has been reached (10 minutes) the
screen starts to black out even if I'm there, pressing keys and moving
the mouse inside zsnes.

I'm not sure if this is a problem with working with zsnes only, or with
all libsdl based games.

[Bug 35449] Random disk access, every second every day

2006-03-18 Thread Dhonn Lushine
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35449

Affects: meta-gnome2 gnome-core (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I hear the disk reading every few seconds and see the disk light access
light blink every second every day.

It can be annoying.

I only see and hear this when I'm in gnome and even after I exit gnome
to shell. When I boot in safe mode it doesnt happen.

This bug is normal and its been happening since warty. I can confirm
this bug on 4 computers that I own.

Could it be a possible memory leak?

I've had the same problem when I used fedora along time ago but I
somehow fixed it by turning off all services. Bug can be confirmed on a
clean install too.

It won't stop!

[Bug 35461] nautilus offers wrong open with options for plain text files

2006-03-18 Thread Tristan Wibberley
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35461

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
if a plain text file is named with ".","o","g", and "g" as the last four
characters of its name, and in that order, it recognises that it is
plain text, rightclick->properties correctly says the mime type is
"text/plain" but the open action says its name is wrong. Also the open
with menu has the programs for Ogg streams rather than for plain text
documents.

Linux plain text files do not have any valid or invalid filename
sections. It is common to have several files named "format.ogg",
"format.wav", "format.odt" which are each plain text files describing
the file formats named after the dot. That is the conventional use for
the dot eg, foo.c is the c source version of foo.s, which is the
assembler version of foo.o which is the object version of the other two
- the dot is used only as an "alternatives" marker and has no special
meaning.

As another example, when downloading a file with the same name as one
already downloaded, the file is commonly called filename.1, this is not
a file of type 1, but the first alternative.

As such, when filetype detection succeeds, nautilus should behave as
expected and open it with that file types default program, or at the
very least should offer the correct "open with" option.

[Bug 35462] Dapper Totem does not handle non-media files gracefully

2006-03-18 Thread José M . López-Cepero
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35462

Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Problem: If you enqueue a non-media file in Totem (say a .txt), Totem
stops and complains with "There is no plugin to handle this movie".
Continuing to play the playlist involves the user accepting the dialog
and clicking Play. This behavior should be improved.

Rationale: This situation usually arises when you drop a directory full
of music which contains a few other files (say several MP3s from a
ripped CD plus a txt containing the tracklist) and use Random replay --
Totem is much better than Rhythmbox for this particular application. You
can enjoy your music in the background and do other things in the
meantime. Then, Totem just stops unpredictably when it is time to "play"
the .txt file. This is rather disruptive; you have to stop whatever you
are doing and handle the Totem request in order to continue listening to
your music. If there is at least another valid file, it seems better to
mark the file as not playable and continue with another.

Suggested fix: I suggest changing the behavior to mimic that of
Rhythmbox. That is, if a file is not playable by Totem, mark it with a
"forbidden" sign (the one from Rhythmbox would do very nicely) and
continue with the next one in the playlist (or another random one) which
is not "forbidden". Maybe a non-obstructive notification (such as the
ones of "disk almost full") could also be made. If the whole of the
playlist becomes marked as forbidden, stop and show the dialog. This
way, the dialog is retained for the most common case (opening an
invalid, single file) but is avoided when using playlists, where it is
more of an annoyance than an useful thing.

[Bug 35463] Folders have wrong default program and the association can't be changed

2006-03-18 Thread seguso
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35463

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When I was using Breezy, I had associated a few program to the "folder"
mimetype, so I could select them with a right-click on any folder:
cervisia, kdirstat, konqueror, plus a shell script (invoked by gnome-
terminal -x script.py ).

Then I upgraded to dapper months ago, and all worked well. Until a few
days ago, when something strange happened:

1. some associations have gone, namely the script and kdirstat.

2. Those associations can't be readded.

3. If I right click on a folder and choose properties->open-with, I see
that Cervisia is now the default action for folders. THere are only two
other choices: "open folder", which should be the default, and
konqueror.

4. If I click on "open folder", in order to set a good default, my click
is ignored. I can't change the default association in any way.

[Bug 28712] gdm loses focus when mouse pointer is outside window (when initially started)

2006-03-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/28712

Comment:
Upstream comment:

"The problem with using gdm_wm_focus_new_windows is that this turns on the
focus_new_windows flag and this never gets turned off. You'll notice this is
normally only used when a pop-up is going to be displayed. Actually this seems
sort of broken to me. Do we want gdmlogin and gdmgreeter to always just make
focus go to the last window displayed? If so we could perhaps rip out all the
gdm_wm_focus_window calls and just put a single gdm_wm_focus_new_window (TRUE)
call in there.

But, this does seem strange. If you have a bit of time, I would appreciate if
you could look into this a bit furter so we could understand what is going on
here. Since these calls are after the gtk_widget_show_all and
gtk_widget_show_now calls, I'd expect that the window would be mapped. Also, I
notice that gui/gdmlogin.c has pretty much the same gdm_wm calls, but people
only seem to complain about this problem with gdmgreeter. Do you notice the
same problem in gdmlogin? I'm assuming you can also debug the gdmwm code and
see if the window is also unmapped there when the gdm_wm_focus_window call is
made? If we see the problem in both programs, then I'd be happier fixing the
code as you suggest in your patch.

When you say the window is unmapped do you mean it isn't drawn to the screen or
the gdmwm code doesn't seem to know about the window yet? Note that
gdm_wm_init calls add_all_current_windows() and this should notice the window,
and add it to the list. If this is failing, then perhaps there is a race
condition where the window's MapNotify event is happening after the call to
gdm_wm_focus_window. You could probably test this by putting a breakpoint in
the event_process function and see if the code has already passed the
gdm_wm_focus_window function by this time. If this is the problem, I'd lean
towards just setting focus_new_windows to TRUE all the time, because I'm not
sure how we could better manage the race condition. It would seem weird to
make gdmgreeter wait for the MapWindow call before callng gdm_wm_focus_window."

shows letters correctly.
