[Bug 36808] Re: Minimum font size settable in two places

2006-04-03 Thread Daniel Holbach
I have an answer from upstream: "They are independent. The one in the main
dialogue is the default setting, which you can override per-language-group in
the Detailed dialogue."

This is beginning to make sense to me, as you might have to increase the font
size for an Arab locale (I'm just making something up...)

[Bug 34866] Re: Toshiba M3, Breezy: Gnome hangs after log-in

2006-04-03 Thread Justin Butterfield
I have the same problem on my Hypersonic laptop (P4-3.4GHz, ATI Mobility Radeon
9700, 1GB RAM). It occurs under both Dapper Flight 5 and Dapper Flight 6. X
appears to start normally, however I get a blank, brown screen with a movable
pointer and no Gnome splash screen. Ctrl-Alt-Bksp does nothing. If I switch
to a terminal and sudo kill X, then X comes back and sometimes stops at the
brown screen and sometimes shows the ubuntu background and the Gnome splash
screen, but then stops before Gnome finishes loading.

[Bug 6615] pannel doesn't load in the upper pannel

2006-04-03 Thread E-B
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Assignee: Ubuntu GNOME Team
 Status: Needs Info
Affects: xpenguins-applet (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Until yesterday the applets was loading in the upper pannel. Now they are not
loading anymore. The uppper pannel just show: Applications, Places, System and
my Icons. The pannel on the ground load every thing. But when you are clicking
with the right mouse on a panel the menu doesnt appear. The "Applications
Places.."- menu cannot be open too. The Icons seems to be not active.
But When you click with the right mouse on a applet the menu appears.

I work with breezy installation, that had been upgraded to Dapper, which
is uptodate! My user has been created under Breezy, don't know if it is
important.

[Bug 36570] Re: Volume applet: In Dapper, Master does not control Headphones

2006-04-03 Thread Luna-Tick
I think that I follow you now. I only have one soundcard. Using the volume
applet terminology, I am talking about one 'device' ("Intel 82801DB-ICH4 (Alsa
Mixer)").

When I have the volume applet controlling 'track' 'Master', it does not control
the headphones. If, in the preferences, I change it so that it is controlling
the same 'device' but 'track' 'Headphone', it changes the volume of the
headphones. This is the same behaviour as in Alsa Mixer.

Shouldn't the Master control the Headphone track as well?

As I don't have multiple sound cards (it is a standard laptop) , I don't
believe that this is a duplicate.

[Bug 37962] folder deletion in nautilus

2006-04-03 Thread neoflight
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Dapper FL-6:

Say I have folder tree in the home directory (where i have permission to
delete directories/files using gui). for e.g., home>dir1>dir2> dir3>dir4
etc...where 4 is inside 3 and 3 is inside 2 and so on.

if I am at dir4, I could see the directory path to dir4 from home as
shown above. I then use the up arrow and navigate to one of the previous
directories, dir1. Now there are 2 things to notice:

1. the dir path on the nautilus is not adjusting(removing the further
dir location such as dir2,3, and 4 from the path) with it except that
the current dir is highlighted on the button.

2. This is more serious:
While I am at home folder i delete the dir1. (which of course removes
everything) but I can still click on the dir1,dir2,dir3, and dir4 (the entire
tree is still there on the panel). it gives error messages of course.
Would it be a wise thing to have the option of showing only the path upto the
current dir location?

thanks

[Bug 4698] Re: Epiphany doesn't use default gnome applications

2006-04-03 Thread Yann Simon
On more precision:

As described in
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/shared-mime-info/+bug/37851,
nautilus now opens xml podcast file with Rhythmbox.

If I clicked on this type of file in Epiphany, "open with Rhythmbox" is not
proposed (just saved, cancel and download)

Epiphany should use Nautilus defaults and propose to open a podcast file with
Rhythmbox.

[Bug 37933] Re: help broken in ubuntu

2006-04-03 Thread Don Scorgie
To clarify (or confuse things a little):
The problem arises because the help file is located at:
/usr/share/gnome/help/epiphany-browser/C/epiphany.xml

With the uri: "ghelp:epiphany", yelp looks under /usr/share/gnome/help/epiphany
for the help files (which doesn't exist). Looking up "ghelp:epiphany-browser"
will also fail as no file exists with the name epiphany-browser.xml.

The bug can be triggered in Yelp by pressing ctrl-L and entering
"ghelp:epiphany". It does not affect the table of contents.

If the help file was:
/usr/share/gnome/help/epiphany/C/epiphany.xml
things would be ok.

If the help file was:
/usr/share/gnome/help/epiphany-browser/C/epiphany-browser.xml
things would be ok albeit, some links in other help files might need modified.
One example is in the gnome-accessibility guide in the section:
"Customizing the Appearance" -> "Customizing Specific Components of the Desktop"
but there could be others. This way, the ghelp link would be modified to
ghelp:epiphany-browser

How does the word "edutainment" get translated to other languages? I am
guessing other langauges use the word education and question if it makes
sense for the English language version to use a different version.

Been testing Ubuntu Dapper Drake flight 5. I suppose this request goes

Copying files on the command line behaves similarly. The operation is not
complete until well after you've been returned to the command line. I know the
moment it's done by umounting the device and waiting for *that* to complete. I
believe this to be a kernel issue, not a desktop interface issue.

[Bug 34644] Re: Thunar opens when I open a Place in the Places menu

2006-04-03 Thread Eric Feliksik
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 35997 ***

The original bug is fixed. Now the case is as follows:

If you right-click a dir in nautilus, the default is "Open"
2nd option is "Open in new window". Both are handled by nautilus. Good.

Beneath the 1st seperator are the alternative handlers, with as last entry
"Open with other application". The 'problem' is that the other entry '''open
with "Open folder"''' is a xfce-friendly name, because xfce users don't want to
know the name of their file manager. It *is*, however, supposed to list a
Thunar entry, which is does.

In the Gnome environment, however, this is confusing. It is not clear that this
is an *alternative* filemanager. So, strictly speaking, this is not an
error/bug, but a usability issue, because the naming of the alternative
directory handler is confusing.

Closing again. Feel free to open a new bug, feel free to use my description if
you like. This bug-entry became too confusing to address the new issue, and it
is unrelated as far as I can see.

[Bug 34644] Re: Thunar opens when I open a Place in the Places menu

2006-04-03 Thread Andrew Conkling
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 35997 ***

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Nautilus.
2. Right-click on a folder.
3. Select "Open with 'Open Folder'".
4. The folder will open with Thunar.

Technically, this is no longer within the scope of this bug, since it was
originally reported regarding the Places menu, but this is obviously related.

[Bug 34699] Re: Huge mem leak

2006-04-03 Thread Brian Beck
I just upgraded to KDE 3.5.2, and I noticed my computer was getting less
responsive. I ran top and I saw this...

7108 bbeck 15 0 1017m 305m 380 S 0.0 60.7 43:57.47 gam_server

After seeing this, I killed the gam_server, and my machine began running as
usual. I never had this problem before upgrading to the latest KDE.

Thanks.

2006-04-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher

Etienne, on what is that claim based? Do you have an idea on how many bugs
Ubuntu get a week for the number of people working on them? There is hundred of
bugs filled a week and only some people working on them. The work has to be
prioritized. Your issue is a minor one and doesn't happen for everybody, have
you already tried to fix a bug that doesn't happen on your configuration?
People don't ignore your bug because they "prefer" that, they just are busy at
the moment ...

Martin,

ditto on Mark Tomlinson's explanation, including the slow speed, all
except that I have no confirmation my printer worked in worked in
Breezy, which I have never used.

This may be part of another issue, specifically I cannot make my printer
work at all, even after applying the fix in bug #32085. I have opened
bug #37881 against this.

[Bug 32938] Re: Usb keyboard dies when gdm starts

2006-04-03 Thread TrinitronX
I have had the same problem with my keyboard, however it is not a USB keyboard.
Mine is a standard 104 key generic Dell brand keyboard, plugged in to the PS/2
port on my desktop PC.
I've noticed this problem in gdm, kdm, and even in the recovery terminal... the
only link I managed to find between the behavior was that I've only noticed it
happening in kernel 2.6.15-19. I'm using the i686 version, installed from
Flight 6 with recent updates. The problem only started after the update to the
kernel image.

I can confirm the num lock behaviour, it acts as an indicator of sorts to
whether or not my keyboard will be locked up or not. If num lock is on when
gdm/kdm/recovery console starts... then the keyboard doesn't work, if the num
lock light is off... then it is responsive.
Being a PS/2 keyboard, sadly I am not able to simply fix the problem by
unplugging/replugging it in. The problem seems random, and usually a reboot
(or two,three... etc..) will eventually ge the keyboard to work again (at least
until the next reboot... sometimes).

So far, I havent' had this problem with kernel image 2.6.15-18-i686/i386, only
with the -19 versions.
