[Bug 39122] Re: Include the tools for spam filtering
Thanks for your bug report. First of all, Dapper's evolution does have the bogofilter plugin - you might have to enable it. For the rest of the bug report: it's true that a package's recommends are not installed by default and it can be a bit problematic, although on the other hand having to install a Recommends if you don't need it, that's problematic as well. I think I'm going to reject the bug. If you want apt/synaptic to install Recommends by default, you might want to follow up on bug 8896 - if your trouble is that one of the spam plugins doesn't work, you might want to follow up on one of the spam related bug reports (bug 37878, bug 12906, bug 19061, bug 20493) - Thanks. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed => Rejected -- Include the tools for spam filtering https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/39122 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 38914] Re: gnome-screensaver does not select z-buffer visual
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 22045 *** It's true it's a problem with gnome-screensaver alone, and not the gl/mesa subsystem, as I tested against xscreensaver and it renders fine. Nevertheless, It doesn't seem to be the same "flickering" issue that was described and *fixed* in 22045. I've read your comment with doublebuffering and depthbuffering in that bug and I must say you know this much better than me, but it seems to me even if in an abstract sense the problem is the same, yet more code needs to be added in order to be fixed, so it's a different issue. [Bug 19247] Re: Hang on connection to FTP, with cancel
I have seen this problem, this evening. I don't have the backtrace anymore (scrolled out of the terminal buffer), but there was a thread specially handling the connection. The thread was hanging in gnome-vfs-inet-connection.c (in gnome-vfs2), line 355. read_val = select (max_fd + 1, &read_fds, NULL, NULL, connection->timeout ? &timeout : NULL); connection->timeout was NULL, so this select was waiting forever (a day anyway) for more data. I'm not sure what state the connection was in, I'll add more data if I see the problem again. It was when attempting to copy a number of files (around 200Mb in size) from the remote FTP server to my desktop. Checking the remote server, I don't see a corresponding entry from netstat, so the NAT gateway may have dropped the entry from its routing table (just a guess). [Bug 39225] Window placement could be better
Public bug reported: Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Severity: Wishlist Priority: Low Status: Unconfirmed Description: After over a decade of using linux, I've used many window managers, and at the same time grown very fond of GNOME as it has developed (and I've even contributed to it). However, I've hoped that metacity, after being chosen as *the* wm for gnome, would have been improved in ways which I took for granted before. This is most notable in the window placement department. I'm not sure what algorithm is used to place windows using metacity, but it is somewhat unintelligent in my opinion. Can this be improved please? [Bug 39216] Progress bar too thick for status bar
Public bug reported: Affects: ubuntulooks (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Several gnome (and other) applications have a status bar at the bottom of the main window, in which (from time to time) a progress bar is sometimes drawn. (For example, firefox shows a progress bar while loading a web page, or Synaptic while recreating the list in the main window after a "reload"). The ubuntulooks progress bar seems to have a "fat" version which is too thick (vertically) to fit in the status bar. The result is that the status bar is made bigger (vertically), for the short time that the progress bar is visible. The result is very ugly, because the rest of the window is often redrawn also, because of the changed vertical space. Examples of this behaviour include Eye of Gnome and Synaptic. In "Eye of Gnome", the effect is particularly horrible: open a picture from a folder with more than one picture; make sure that the picture fills the vertical height of the window, and click "Next". Watch how the status bar expands and the picture is redrawn smaller to fit the smaller window. Firefox shows a narrower style of progress bar. This narrow style should be used in Eye of Gnome, Synaptic and other affected applications. -- Progress bar too thick for status bar https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/39216 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 33132] Re: GDM cannot write to authorisation file
I changed the permissions of my home directory so that groups could not have write access and the problem went away. Possibly, my young kids may have clicked around and changed the permissions of folders. The error message is however cryptic and not intuitive. "User's $HOME directory must be owned by user and not writable by other users" Why? Why should that prevent my session from starting up? And if it really is neccessary, it should offer the user the ability to change the permissions then and there. -- GDM cannot write to authorisation file https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33132 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 39198] Non UTF-8 subtitles are badly displayed
Public bug reported: Affects: gstreamer (upstream) Severity: Unknown Priority: Unknown Status: Unknown Affects: gst-plugins-base0.10 (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed Description: In French and many more languages, chars like é à ç ... are displayed as ??? if the srt file is not in UTF-8. It's very annoying because most of the srt files you download from the web are in ISO-8859-15. This bug was recently fixed in upstream (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172848). I don't know when is planned gst-plugins-base 0.10.6 and if it will be shipped with Dapper but if it don't, i think it would be a good idea to backport this fix. Currently, french subtitles are just unusable with Dapper. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #172848 http://bugzilla.gnome.org//show_bug.cgi?id=172848 ** Also affects: gstreamer (upstream) via http://bugzilla.gnome.org//show_bug.cgi?id=172848 Severity: Unknown Priority: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Changed in: gst-plugins-base0.10 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs -- Non UTF-8 subtitles are badly displayed https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/39198 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
