[Bug 902] Re: Chocolate background appears when loading desktop

2006-04-28 Thread Martin Bergner
Gdm displays the cholocate background even if a user selects a different
background color in his session. A proposed solution was to fade into the users
environment.
Is this doable (probaly not in dapper)? So should this be looked upon in
dapper+1?

[Bug 41838] So much difficulties just for a translation fix !

2006-04-28 Thread Tolgam
Public bug reported:

Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
This is my problem : I've seen a translation error in the french version
of gthumb.

The error is that Plein écran should have been used instead of Plain écran
(for shortcut F11). I thought it wasn't a big deal and went on rosetta to fix
this...
I carefully clicked alsmost 85 times (there are about 850 messages) on the
next 10 link. Every time, after reading the 10 message displayed, I had to go
back to the top on the page to be able to click on this link :/
I've seen a search feature has been requested for rosetta so I hope things will
soon be easier :)

Anyway, i didn't find the message I willing to fix. Thus, instead of
browsing again all the messages (which is, btw, a little bit long to
do), i've tried to signal this translation as a bug in gthumb. This
doesn't worked either since gthumb is not using malone :'(

So I end up filling a bug there...

Thanks for checking again. If it works now, then I suspect an earlier and
broken dapper version of control-center messed up the file somehow. Sorry.

BTW, you should upgrade to the latest dapper version and do the process again,

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
using the Happy GNOME with Browser Theme, pressing TAB to select a user, it
is no lobger possible to login. The username appears greyed out in the username
field, pressing enter waits for a some time, than saying login failed, wrong
password and that caps lock is on, which actually isn't the case.
The only way to recover from is to reboot, as restarting gdm does not help and

Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am not sure what package to file the bug to, however here it goes.

Dapper Drake. Play a song with xmms and decrease the volume in XMMS until the
song is barely audible (e.g. volume 7%). Close xmms. Open a movie with totem:
you find out that the volume slider in totem is already at max and cannot be
increased, but the volume is still too low. Then you try to increase the master
volume (the applet on gnome-panel) but you discover it is also at max. So you
get stuck: there is no apparent way to play the movie at decent volume. You
_could_ launch xmms again and increase the volume slider, but a newbie would
not discover that or accept it anyway.
In short, it seems the volume control in apps like XMMS and mplayer takes over
totem's slider, and causes it to malfunction.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'gstreamer';
however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

[Bug 41293] Re: Non-fatal error when entering an empty string

2006-04-28 Thread Mats Taraldsvik
I got an identical backtrace, but my search field was/is not empty. I typed
msvcrt and then [ENTER].
It happens when I press [ENTER] after typing a search string, but it won't
happen if I just type e.g opera and wait for the automatic list to show up
(Actions, History etc.)
I'm on Dapper beta.

[Bug 31511] Re: Settings lost during an upgrade

2006-04-28 Thread Simon Law
That is exactly the right thing to do!

Here's some pseudocode:
1. Check if /apps/gnome-screensaver has entries
2. If yes, carry on.
3. If no, look for .xscreensaver. If you find that, import as many entries as
you can into /apps/gnome-screensaver.

That's a total win for everybody.

[Bug 41304] Re: root privileges needed to set default printer

2006-04-28 Thread mannheim
There is a similar (related?) issue with setting printer preference via the
Properties dialog box in gnome-cups-manager.

When opening the Properties dialog box, the preferences which are shown
reflect choices recorded in /etc/cups/printers.conf (or so it seems). That is,
the system-wide prefs are shown. But when a normal user uses the dialog to
change preferences, the per-user preferences are changed, and recorded in
~/.cups/lpoptions.

The result is that user preferences appear not to stick. To reproduce this:

1. Launch gnome-cups-manager as a user.

2. Select a printer, and select Properties.

3. Change a property and close the dialog.

4. Open the Properties dialog and observe that it does not reflect the change
you made in step 3.

5. Do less ~/.cups/lpotions to see that the preference you recorded in step 3
is reflected in change to this file.

[Bug 41892] Epiphany window closes very slowly.

2006-04-28 Thread Rodney Kerstetter
Public bug reported:

Affects: epiphany-browser (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When closing the last epiphany browser window, the epiphany process uses
100% of the CPU time and the window takes several seconds (3-7) to
close. The delay is quite annoying and often confuses new users who
think that they did not click the close button correctly. This occurs
on both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Ubuntu. I have seen this bug

Daniel, in fact, you must have been right. I had 2.6.15-20 installed but after
an upgrade to 2.6.15-21 the suspension just started working.
However, I should rather say working. I can get back to X but the desktop
itself then becomes useless. Whenever I try to select something with a mouse or
to scroll, everything gets messy as a part of one text overlays a part of
another and so on. I am not sure of how can I backtrace why it is so.

I don't know yet where kdeprint store the user configuration, but
gnome-cups-manager show the enblem of the user default printer assigned by

In the same time as it has been discuted, assigning default printer and

[Bug 38357] Re: hardcoded location for modules config file

2006-04-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
That upload fixes the issue:

 pango1.0 (1.12.2-0ubuntu1) dapper; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version:
 - Fix incorrect rendering when in x86 64-bit precision mode
   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5200
 - Misc bug fixes.
   * debian/patches/ia32-hack.patch:
 - patch update by Matthias Klose, use PANGO_SYSCONFDIR environment variable
to specify where the pango modules are stored (Ubuntu: #38357)
   * debian/rules:
 - use -plibpango$(apiver)-udeb for udeb build, doesn't run dh_strip when
   not required
