[Bug 43322] EOG crashes when stopping slideshow

2006-05-07 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
Public bug reported:

Affects: eog (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
there is a very big bug in EOG 2.14.1 present in dapper: start a slideshow,
then cancel it using ESCAPE. you'll likely trigger a crash.
according to the upstream bug report it's mostly when you cancel when a new
image just appeared in the slideshow. but for me it's all the time.

i think the bug is very critical. dapper doesn't look good at all if the image
viewer crashes just by doing a slideshow. for now upstream didn't fix it yet.
this is a request that ubuntu developers consider distributing the fix in
dapper as soon as it's applied in CVS (assuming it will be applied on time),
even if EOG developers don't make a release, and even if it's quite late in
dapper schedule.

i think it's a very serious bug like the nautilus crash on right click
"make archive" was in breezy, that required to upload the fix in breezy-
updates since so many people where hitting it.

[Bug 35638] Re: Hl-1050 is not detected properly

2006-05-07 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
OK after a lot effort I have narrowed this down a bit. I can show the same
problem using:

watch -d=cumulative --interval=0.5 /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb

as root on two different consoles. It doesn't take long for them to start
alternate showing and not showing the printer and if you are unlucky the
printer will suddenly disappear and not come back until it is unplugged and
replugged in.

I'm guessing this is either a hardware fault or that that the kernel USB driver
on my system is a little bit flakey.

[Bug 42853] Re: Mute conflict between gnome-volume-applet and gnome-volume-manager

2006-05-07 Thread Vladimír Lapáček
Using the latest Dapper, I can confirm this bug. The same happens to me. I can
another inconsistency.

1) Using mute button on my laptop IBM r50e I can easily mute sound. The applet
as well as the Volume Control show the correct stat (mute).

2) Now, if I want it to unmute, I can do it only by the laptop volume up
button. Neither unmuting by the applet, by the laptop mute button nor by the
Volume Control helps. It seems that they work (mute icon disappears) but I
cannot hear any sound.

In my opinion, this should be corrected so that all the applet mute, the Volume
Control mute and the laptop mute key unmute the sound.

[Bug 43330] Epiphany is not session-managed anymore

2006-05-07 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

Affects: epiphany-browser (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Using epiphany-browser 2.14.1-0ubuntu2, Epiphany seems to have lost the
ability to keep data between sessions.

Basically, I used to be able to open a few tabs in Epiphany, leave
Epiphany running, restart my system and automatically recover the
previous state when logging in to the next session. Note: with
"Automatically save changes to session" checked in System > Preferences
> Sessions.

This functionality seems to have disappeared in the last versions of
Dapper.

Steps to reproduce:

1.- Start Epiphany.

2.- Optionally open a couple of tabs.

3.- Go to System > Preferences > Sessions and check that epiphany-
browser appears on the list of currently running programs on the
"Current Session" tab.

4.- Logout or restart. If "Automatically save changes to session" was
not checked, choose to save the session when prompted before logout.

5.- When logging back in, epiphany is not restarted as expected. The
previous state (open URLS, tabs...) is lost.

[Bug 43336] impossible key combination in evolution: msg "go to" "next unread"

2006-05-07 Thread sven.lug-dorsten
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Binary package hint: evolution

Hi!

with my german keyboard its not possible to me to use the key
combination ctrl+[ or ctrl+]. Or at least i dont know how.

On german keyboards the characters '[' and ']' can be typed in by
pressing shift+8 and shift+9.

But the key combination ctrl+shift+8 and ctrl+shift+9 doesnt work to
perform the "Go To next/last unread message" action.

If i did not get it wrong, please:

* short term bug fix
use a possible key combination

* long term bug fix:
There should be some sort of a framework or support from gtk/gnome-libs to
include user-customizable key-combinations for actions that are inside the
menu and the toolbar. Perhaps the toolbar editor is a good place to implement
this.

kind regards, Sven

Todays update to version 2.4.4 introduced a couple of GNOME-dependencies
to abiword-plugins. I think it is especially libgoffice, which needs
many GNOME libs, but was not needed for the 2.4.2 plugins.

Since abiword-plugins is part of xubuntu-desktop, and there is an extra

Description:
Copying files with nautilus displays the name of the previously copies
file when copying.

This is easiest to catch if one copies a directory with a series of bug

will display the small files when copying the large files. It makes a
funny effect..

Cosmetic, but still a bug.

[Bug 43340] searching on the web opens tab in firefox on some other worspace

2006-05-07 Thread Adriaan Peeters
Public bug reported:

Affects: deskbar-applet (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When searching on the web (for example wikipedia) the resulting page is
opened in firefox. If firefox is already running, it opens a new tab in
the currently running firefox window. If this window is on a different
worspace, nothing seems to happen, there is no visual feedback. deskbar-
applet should open a new firefox window in this case.

[Bug 43352] ipp jobs not purged; purging causes 100% cpu usage

2006-05-07 Thread trshemanske
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am running a current version of dapper, and have two printers
configured via gnome-cups-manager. The local printer HP PSC2175 is
connected via USB, and functions correctly. I also have a network
printer (HP Laserjet 1200) configured via ipp.

The jobs to the ipp printer print correctly, but cups-gnome-manager
continues to report that the job is still printing. Upon reboot the
same job will reprint. If you manually cancel the job via the gnome-
cups-manager or via lprm, "top" reports that ipp is consuming 100% cpu,
and the ipp job must be manually canceled.

This occurs on two separate dapper installations both using cups as a

Description:

I've been trying to use the Shared Folders functionality in Dapper Drake
beta (updates through today, 2006-05-07) After successfully exporting an

short wait, Windows workgroup networks and shared folders were available

[Bug 43366] gnome-screenshot asks for remote passwords repeatedly

2006-05-07 Thread Sebastian Breier
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-utils (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When having remote locations in the nautilus bookmark list, gnome-screenshot
asks for all remote passwords upon starting. This is really annoying, as 10
bookmarks means typing in 10 passwords... clicking on "Cancel" in the password
dialog brings up the dialog another 4 times (5 times in total) for each
bookmark.

This is absolutely similar in behavior as
https://launchpad.net/products/nautilus/+bug/5696, which had the same issue
with the gtk-filechooser. As the gtk-filechooser bug is fixed now while the
screenshot isn't, I guess it's copy-pasted code or something.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Log into remote location in nautilus, don't save the password (e.g.
"ssh://myhost/myfolder")
2. Create a bookmark of current location
3. Start gnome-screenshot

Actual results:
You get asked for the password to all remote locations in your bookmarks list.
If you saved the password earlier, you only get asked if you want to allow
access to the passwords for gnome-screenshot, which is annoying nonetheless.

Expected results:
Like the gtk-filechooser bugfix, the application should NOT ask for all the
passwords.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

[Bug 43319] Re: Visualization options are worse than totem-xine

I'm supposed to describe specifically how one version of goom is not nearly as
good as another? Good luck with that! (If you had tried to repro the bug, I
think you'd have been able to see what I describe.)

The zoom I refer to is when you press 0, 1, 2 in totem and it resizes the
window and makes the picture bigger. I don't know what that xvimage or
videosink.

These comments all relates to the visualizations in totem-gstreamer seem to be
different and inferior to totem-xine. In that sense I think it makes sense to

[Bug 42712] Re: gdmsetup segfaults

2006-05-07 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
The common point might have been that we all have played with xgl/compiz at
some point. ATM, I'm not using xgl/compiz (I uninstalled the repository
packages) and my configuration files are back to what they were before trying
them out.

1) The reason I personally don't have gdm.conf-custom is because I manually
deleted it in order to get rid of Xgl/compiz, as suggested by this How-To from
the forums:

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=131267

2) After removing gdm.conf-custom, it does not get recreated. Even when
manually recreating it from backup, the bug still occurs.

[Bug 43114] Re: GDM Choices Cause Sleep and Hibernate Failure

I did some more testing and loaded all of the newest updates available.

I believe the swap file is corrupt. After a mkswap the laptop does shutdown
during a hibernate but boots up like I never did the hibernate. After that the
next hibernate will fail to shutdown or sometimes lock the laptop. I'll then
have to force a reset with the power button.

Sleep still locks up the laptop when you attempt to awake the laptop with the

As far as I know it wasn't discussed on the mailing list. It is likely
that the discussion took place during a conference/sprint or simply just

I take back what I said on my previous comment:

I don't seem to be getting this bug anymore.

I don't know if it is related to the latest package updates or the fact that I
manually recreated gdm.conf-custom.

I must say, though, that when I did this yesterday (i.e. manually recreating
gdm.conf-custom and restarting the X server) the bug could still be reproduced.

[Bug 27239] Re: gnome-cups-manager does not accept HPLIP printer setup

2006-05-07 Thread Henk Koster
It appears that this bug can be closed.

I installed Dapper Beta2 today (7 May 2006) and did an apt-get update. My
network printer installs OK: as an HP JetDirect printer, using as URI its LAN
address (192.168.1.63) without any prefix (like socket:// or hp:/), and chose
the HP DeskJet 5850 recommended hpijs driver. The test page is just perfect.

Now hoping that g-c-m isn't messed up between now and final Dapper release...

[Bug 25630] Re: Cannot configure HPLIP network printers in gnome-cups-manager

2006-05-07 Thread Henk Koster
Though the HPLIP way of installing printers still does not work, my HP network
printer can be installed in Dapper (Beta2 plus updates as of 7 May 2006). I was
able to install my HP DeskJet 5850 network printer OK:

- choose HP JetDirect printer
- URI: 192.168.1.63, (your IP may differ)
without any prefix like socket:// or hp:/
- choose HP DeskJet 5850 printer from the list, and
  accept the default hpijs driver

Test page is perfect.

However, this is not the HPLIP way, because /usr/bin/hp-info (and other HPLIP
commands) result in error message.

[Bug 25630] Re: Cannot configure HPLIP network printers in gnome-cups-manager

2006-05-07 Thread manu
Hi Henk,

you can check out which URI type was used to configure the printers through the
CUPS webinterface (http://localhost:631 and then Printers).

Also, if you launch gnome-cups-manager from a terminal, it gives the URI of
each printer. Since you used the JetDirect backend, you will see something
similar to:

** (gnome-cups-manager:17640): WARNING **: connect = 'socket://192.168.0.1:9100'

As said before, one issue is being able to configure the HPLIP backend from
gnome-cups-manager and another issue is that the printer actually works (or
not) with HPLIP.

I guess you are saying that with Dapper Beta2 there is no way to configure a
printer to use the HPLIP backed from gnome-cups-manager. That is the relevant
part for this bug report.

Now, as an off-topic, the reasons why your printer may not work under HPLIP may
be:

* Your printer is not supported. This does not seem to be the case
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/index.html.

* Support for your printer is not available in HPLIP's version in Dapper
(0.9.8). You may try the latest version HPLIP 0.9.10 from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=149981
(installation instructions available at
http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/step2/ubuntu510.html)

* A bug in HPLIP. You should report it to one of the HPLIP mailing lists, or
send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (http://hplip.sourceforge.net/faqs.html). I
would recommend you include the output of whatever command fails adding the
option -ldebug, such as, "hp-info -ldebug".

* Another reason...?

[Bug 43416] adding or preferences crash

Public bug reported:

Description:
Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

This is with current Dapper using gutenprint (with
an Epson DX3800 attached). It's a regression
from the last time I tried it with earlier Dapper
packages.

If I use Add Printer, I get a popup saying
`Reading printer database' and then a crash
