[Bug 34774] Re: Panel always chooses 16x16 icon for KDE apps

2006-05-30 Thread Vincent Untz
I think you already fixed this, but anyway, there are good chances that
gnome-panel is asking for a 24x24 icon for 24 pixels panel. And if it
doesn't, it will for a 25px or 26px panel.

I discussed with lapo about this, and he's right that adding padding in
the panel should be okay. I have to try this.

[Bug 41234] Re: Don't hide the menu entry

2006-05-30 Thread Vincent Untz
Late answer :-)

FWIW, I disagree on this decision for a simple reason: my keyboard was
broken and I could have used gok to do some stuff before rebooting the
computer, but it was not possible because the menu was removed. Also, it
was good to be able to demonstrate the AT features without logging out.
Now, it's harder.

I can understand it might make sense in the general case, and that the
real bug is that you have to logout/login to activate it via the
capplet.

[Bug 43067] Re: ubuntu logo on main menu doesn't scale like other launchers

2006-05-30 Thread Vincent Untz
About the menu: this is not a panel issue, but a GTK+ issue since we're
using a menubar here. We could workaround here, but we'd still have the
issue with the text of the menu. So I don't know how to handle this.

Answering Remo: it's the font that forces the minimum height of the
panel.

Does it really freeze or use 100% CPU?

It'd be nice to describe the content of the panel :-)
You can also attach the output of gconftool-2 --dump /apps/panel

Do you have an applet in this drawer? I'm wondering if this could be
because of some applet now being in the same process than the panel...

[Bug 45446] Re: improper widget packing in volume-control

2006-05-30 Thread Daniel Holbach
Comment from the upstream developer:

It's because the text (label) has a different size, causing more space to be
allocated for some than for other slider-boxes. If any, that would be a GtkBox
packing bug. I can see how this is mildly annoying, but this is useful if you
have multiple slides, where one is small and one is large (text-size-wise): you
don't want both to have the same size, because then you're wasting valuable
real estate (screen space). Therefore, they're set to no-same-size, and the
result is this slight drift. I don't consider that improper at all.

Therefore, I don't consider this a bug, I'm affraid. It's intended
behaviour.

[Bug 47441] g-s-t New Audio Playback device dialogue hidden off edge of screen

2006-05-30 Thread Paul Sladen

Something (probably g-s-t) popped up a dialogue when installed saying,
New Audio Playback device detected and appeared to have some text and

[Bug 47449] gparted doesn't recognize the partitions it created

2006-05-30 Thread Roberto Rosselli Del Turco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gparted

I've just installed DapperRC on an AMD box with two hard disk drives, I
used the LiveCD and gparted to partition the first hard disk and I
installed XP on it, then again I booted the LiveCD and installed Dapper
on the second disk. The problem is that gparted doesn't recognize the
Windows partitions and the swap partition it created on the first disk:
it simply says Type of disk: not recognized and all the disk space is
tagged as unallocated. Note that disks-admin sees them all right, and
in fact I successfully added them to fstab (can access them fine). Same
goes for fdisk:

sudo fdisk -l /dev/hda

Disk /dev/hda: 163.9 GB, 163928604672 bytes

[Bug 34659] Re: Color Balance settings have no effect on the output

2006-05-30 Thread Lionel Dricot
Here, with the proprietary Nvidia driver, color balance works fine with
totem-gstreamer if the Video sink is set to autodetect in gstreamer
properties.

If you manually set the sink to No Xv, then I can confirm that color balance
will have no effect.
I confirm and set this as a minor bug because not everyone wants to change the
Sink to No Xv.

BTW, the reset button in the color balance has a little bug I've reported

[Bug 47463] Unattractive logout-button

2006-05-30 Thread Michael Wojciechowski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-artwork

There have been many complaints on the Ubuntu forums and elsewhere regarding
the recent changes to the logout button. Complaints focus on three main
problems:
1. It is obnoxious and distracting
2. It is XP-like and lacks sleekness
3. It is inconsistent with the rest of the interface and does not balance the
distributor logo on the left (no longer true since the distributor logo became
button-like).

To address these issues, I have taken the liberty of creating a mock-up or
potentially usable alternative. It was made by simply adjusting the hue and
saturation of the Human gnome-session-hibernate icon in order to produce a
bright red button.

[Bug 46438] Re: using nested drawers in a panel causes gnome-panel to freeze

2006-05-30 Thread Rui Mesquita
hello,
yes, when it freezes the panel will try to use 100% cpu time.

The drawer that is giving me the problem has only launchers for apps
installed with wine. I created most of the launchers by dragging the
icons created by wine from the desktop to the drawer.

And, the reason maybe the panel was freezing before when I moved a
drawer around on the panel was because I had that same drawer placed
directly on the panel, and just touching it would cause the bug (!)

[Bug 46961] Gparted should return 1 Cancel when its operation fails

2006-05-30 Thread Billy Charlton
Public bug reported:

Gparted should return 1 Cancel from the apply command when one of
its operations fails.

Specifically, I have tried to resize an NTFS partition through ubiquity
(which embeds gparted for manual partitioning), and when this operation
fails, gparted does not emit a cancel/error code.

Full description (pasted from bug 45543) below:

---

Ok I'll try and explain exactly what I'm seeing. I think it boils down
to this: if my NTFS partition is not clean, the resize fails but the
installer continues. If I run checkdisk from inside Windows, and then
run the installer, the whole procedure works flawlessly. But I (and I'm
sure others as well) frequently seem to have NTFS partitions that are
not unmounted cleanly for whatever reason. In this case I think the
installer should probably halt.

So here's what I did:

1) I choose manual partitioning, and it shows me the partition layout of
my disk. I've attached resize-results.zip, which contains file
fdisk.original which is the output of fdisk -l /dev/hda, which you can
examine to see the makeup yourself -- a big hda1, a 3.5Gb hda2, then
lots of freespace.

2) I right-click hda2 and choose resize. I shrink it to 1.5Gb using the
slider. Then I select the freespace, choose new and create an ext3
partition that will become my root partition.

3) After I click Next, it warns me that it's about to resize, I say
OK, and it shows a dialog and goes through steps 1 and 2: resizing hda2
and then creating the new hda3 for root.

4) When the mount points screen appears, it still shows that hda2 is
3.5Gb. The resize of NTFS failed, but the installer continued to the
next screen as if it had succeeded. I think at this point it should have
halted and told me to go run checkdisk in Windows (or something), right?
In resize-results.zip there is also a file fdisk.after-resize which
shows that the hda2 partition has not in fact been resized at all.

The resize-results.zip also contains the installer log, which contains
line gparted replied: - FORMAT /dev/hda4 ext3 even though the previous
resize operation failed. I don't see a line stating that the resize
failed, btw. But it did. :-)

Indeed, the above PDF works here as well. What does not work is e.g.
http://code.google.com/soc/SoC2006StudentForeignCertification.pdf.
My gimp version is 2.2.11.

[Bug 46961] Re: Gparted should return 1 Cancel when its operation fails

2006-05-30 Thread Colin Watson
Just out of interest, did gparted display an error that it failed to
resize the NTFS filesystem? I can reproduce this problem here, but only
with an error displayed by gparted (and yes, it does then go on to
damage the NTFS filesystem).

2006-05-30 Thread Juanjo Garcia-Ripoll
Public bug reported:

I have updated today to Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and with it also evolution,
which is now version 2.6.1

The update of evolution did not update the index or metadata files and
the mail program kept crashing until I cleaned these files, closed the
evolution data server and restarted the program.

[Bug 47472] Size of window not remembered

2006-05-30 Thread Juanjo Garcia-Ripoll
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

This is something I reported quite some time ago, but I cannot find it
in the database.

Basically, evince does not remember the window size between
invocations, nor does it reuse the window size of an opened copy. This
would not be such an inconvenience for an image viewer, but for a PDF
viewer evince has a too small window size initially.

This happens with Ubuntu 6.06 LTS

[Bug 34521] Re: network monitor's icon have too much unused space

2006-05-30 Thread dré
The icons are too abstract in my opinion. It's just a progress bar and
could represent anything. There's no visual indication that it
represents the signal strength of the wireless connection. There should
be an antenna or something similar included.

The original nm-signal-XX icons could besides fill the gap for gnome-
netstatus-XX-XX in the tango theme. Am I wrong? May I reopen this?
