[Bug 49641] Missing important items in System->Administration
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools I did not know where to file this bug---it concerns all administrtation choices in the Gnome System->Administration toolbar that require gksu. NOT working (just started under Dapper--worked fine with Breezy and Hoary)- If I am in group admin via NIS these do not show up. The nice thing about NIS is that it allows us to set groups for users in one place then send all group information (except for group root) via NIS to all other machines, but this is now broken. To rephrase, dapper isn't showing my administration programs in gnome unless I am put myself in group admin in the /etc/group file of the local machine. This worked fine under hoary and breezy. [Bug 49567] Re: list view doesn't expand subfolder when clicking on arrow if entry is selected
OK, I will try to be more precise: I am using Dapper, nautilus in spatial mode. Steps to reproduce: 1) Open any folder with some sub- and sub-subfolders in spatial mode 2) Make sure the mode is "list view" (or whatever the exact english equivalent of "Listenansicht" is). 3) in this view expand a folder by clicking on the arrow left to its name, result: you see the list of folders and files contained in it 4) out of this list select a folder by clicking on its name once 5) try to expand this folder while it is selected by clicking on the corresponding arrow. On my computer, this does not work. 6) deselect that folder by clicking somewhere else and try expanding again by clicking on the arrow: now it does work. this is at least inconsistent and when using the list view on deep hierachies intensivly it gets annoying. Hope this clarifies my problem -- list view doesn't expand subfolder when clicking on arrow if entry is selected https://launchpad.net/bugs/49567 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 49607] Missing PCM volume control limits laptop sound volume
Public bug reported: I'm running a version of Dapper that's fully patched as of 12 June 2006 evening EST. >From the perspective of a regular, non-super-techie user, my laptop has a problem where the speakers, even when volume is maxed out, are too quiet. Here's the deal: I played a DVD on my laptop (HP dv4150, which is a variation of dv4000 model). I was using Kaffeine (xine backend) and the Gnome desktop. I had Kaffeine's volume slider maxed, and the Gnome "Volume Applet 2.14.1" volumes maxed, but I was still thinking that the sound coming from the laptop was too quiet to be useful. Suspicious, I went to the command line and launcherd alsamixer. I found that the PCM volume was low, maybe in the 60-70% range (I forget the actual number). When I moved it up to 90-100%, the laptop's speakers were just as loud as I wanted, and I perceived no distortion. The problem is this: It's only because I'm a cmd-line geek that I knew to check alsamixer. AFAIK, a regular Dapper user, of the ilk that Canonical is trying to get to use Dapper, wouldn't have known to do this fix. From all indications of the GUI, there are exactly two places where volume is controlled: the application, and a system-wide volume controlled by the Volume Applet. ** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: Unconfirmed -- Missing PCM volume control limits laptop sound volume https://launchpad.net/bugs/49607 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 49607] Re: Missing PCM volume control limits laptop sound volume
I'd like to suggest that this be reclassified as a bug rather than a wishlist item. Although it's not a bug with any one particular component involved, it is a bug in Ubuntu. The reason I say this it that using Ubuntu as intended, my laptop is too quiet to be useful despite the hardware being capable of adequite volume. I suppose this hinges on whether or not you consider it a bug that (a) the speakers are too quiet to be uesful, and (b) the solution involves the user running alsaconf from the cmd-line.
