[Bug 50621] Re: [Bug 50621] Re: freezes at end of playlist

2006-07-18 Thread crankben
Hi!

First of all thanks for your reply!
Maybe you'll get this mail twice since I had troubles with my account.
I tried a few things and think I have found the error:
I had a folder containing plain text files (lyrics) in some of my music folders
and totem tried playing the text. So maybe it should be changed from bug report
to feature request though it still somehow bothers me that the whole gui
freezes when I ignore totem and try to shut down my pc.

Totem 1.4.1 and Gstreamer 0.10.6 both according to the totem info button...
The console only tells me that I killed totem which I already knew :D
The rest of this mail was written BEFORE I found out about the problem with the
text files. So it won't be of much interest anymore, I suppose.
Anyway, I'll leave it here - just read it if you need any more specific pieces
of information...
-

Now all the details - hope some of them matter ^^

I can reproduce the bug over and over again - works every time.
Here's how to do it:
I open nautilus, navigate to my music directory. Then I rightclick a folder
containing mp3 files and select "open with video player"
--Hope this is how it's called in the English menu, can't really tell since I'm
only using the German version.--

So basically I'm just playing down this list of eight files - no repeat, no
shuffle.
At the end of the last track, the error happens.
Moving the cursor over the totem window, it (the cursor) shows the "busy"
symbol. I checked in various window layouts (none besides totem, up to totem
completely covered with other windows) and it seems that only the top of the
window (totem, minimize, maximize and close symbols) are redrawn and are quite
snappy in their reactions - except close, of course, which takes several
seconds to report that totem does not react.

I've run totem from the console but all it tells me is that I killed it - well,
of course I did since it froze and I don't want it to freeze my whole system
when I try to shut down the computer without killing totem first. Also happened
a couple of times.
Notably only the GUI seems to be affected since ctrl-alt-del and the like still
work when shutting down.

Not sure if it has anything to do with the problem but I run totem on the first
of my ten desktops directly after startup and then switch to desktop 2-10
depending on the number of programs I use.
For this very reason I did not notice the first few freezes and tried to
shutdown the pc.

The other desktops and all other programs on desktop1 remain perfectly
usable and responsive as long as I don't try to shut down my pc.

Forgot to mention: the folder of music files also contains a folder of
plain text files (lyrics).

Totem (1.4.1) uses Gstreamer (0.10.6) both according to the totem info
button...

[Bug 53380] screensaver activates when changing system time

2006-07-18 Thread Jason O'Connell
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure if this is a bug with gnome-screensaver or the time-admin
tool in gnome-system-tools, but when the time is changed past the
threshold (Set session as idle after in Screensaver Preferences), the
screensaver activates. For example, if the threshold is 10 minutes
(default), and my system time is 6:00, if I open time-admin and set my
clock to 6:11, the screensaver will activate when the OK button is
pressed. This is a bug because the user has not actually been idle for
any amount of time - the screensaver should ignore time adjustments made
by the user.

[Bug 52722] Re: Consistent 15-second hang with no window painting at launch

2006-07-18 Thread Gabriel Bauman
After running 'sudo invoke-rc.d networking stop', I can open epiphany
without the hang. So to summarize, Epiphany hangs in the following
situations:

o The network is up and epiphany is started
o Epiphany is running and the network is started

Again, CPU usage is normal during the hang.

[Bug 35858] Re: The notification icon is not updated

2006-07-18 Thread Paul Sladen
Off-topic: Aaron. Malone now sucks less than it used it, the reason
that is sucks less is because we (the users of Malone) keep telling the
Launchpad developers how to improve each little part.

Pick each part that is broken for you, figure out how to improve it and
file a (constructive) bug report at:

  https://launchpad.net/products/malone/+filebug

then hopefully it'll continue to get better for all of us to use.

Ah, I forgot to say that it worked on dapper. It stopped working on

Off-Topic: this malone bug tracker is the worst piece of crap I've ever

I have the same or a very similar problem. Whenever gnome-power-manager
starts up, it displays the correct status, but then it just stays there
and never updates (not in case of plug/unplug, neither in case of
charging/discharging).

If I do a 'killall gnome-power-manager; gnome-power-manager' the status
is updated (and stays there). To me this looks as if gnome-power-manager
were hanging somewhere.

[Bug 52368] crash while unable to setup partition for installation

2006-07-18 Thread Jean-Pierre Riviere
Public bug reported:

I have my IDE hard drive already set up for linux, with a swap
partition, two /boot partition (one for fedora, one which was intented
for ubuntu) and one for LVM, which has /home, two / and one /tmp. All
partitions are primary partition.

As I was trying to install ubuntu, I choosed the manual partitionning.
The system began scanning, with a ghosted image of a partition tool. But
the ghost disappeared, leaving me without any possibility to say where
to put what. I can't install ubuntu!

However the "continue" button was available. So I press it, and this
broke the installe (this is where it is different from bug 40542, and
also that until then the installer was not crashed yet).

after reading Felix's bug, it's possible that my bug and patch is a

[Bug 53071] Re: Allow deletion of whole sites from history

2006-07-18 Thread Shish
Gah, sorry for being unclear, the user who I was reporting on behalf of
was abusing terminology :-/

It turns out that the feature I requested already exists (you can select
a site and use the delete *key*), but said user was looking through the
window and right-click menus for a pointy clicky way of doing it...

Also, I seem to have been unclear; I don't mean that deleting the *page*
"foo.com(/index.html)" from the list of pages should delete its sibling
page "foo.com/bar.html", I mean deleting the *host* foo.com from the
list of hosts should delete its child pages. (Just as deleting a
directory from the file manager deletes its child files)

Also sorry for prolonging this discussion after it's been closed, I just
want to make sure my request is clear before moving upstream, to avoid
being rejected on a misunderstanding~

[Bug 53337] gedit crashes X on large xml file

2006-07-18 Thread Martijn van Iersel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

On a standard ubuntu 6.06 installation, gedit crashes after opening a
largish xml file (200kb). The crash usually causes X to restart,
sometimes the machine hangs and a hard boot is required

steps to reproduce:

from terminal, do

gedit bookmarks.xml

then scroll down by dragging the scrollbar. A crash usually occurs
within seconds.

** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu)

[Bug 36500] Re: Removing any entry from the left pane closes Nautilus

2006-07-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
that's not really a bug but a small behaviour annoyance, it's not
frequent to remove the directory you are browsing and the patch is not
trivial, so it's not likely to be used for dapper

[Bug 53332] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

2006-07-18 Thread Adam Lukens
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-xine

For some reason, totem-xine crashes when playing
http://diveintomark.org/public/2006/07/20060716-640x480.mkv
. At first, I thought it had to do with enabling subtitles, but it
crashes regardless. It has crashed every time thus far, being the first
repeatable bug that I can report. The work-around, of course, is apt-get
install totem-gstreamer
