[Bug 53498] Mounted drives are missing in the iso save dialogue

2006-07-20 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Public bug reported:

Using Dapper - fully updated.

Steps:
1) Insert CD
2) Right-click and select "Copy Disc"
3) Choose "file image" and click ok
4) In the save dialogue, the "Places" (e.g. other partitions) are missing.

One can still save to the partitions by going through "Filesystem" to
the /media directory, but it is inconsistent with all other save
dialogues.

[Bug 53452] Re: Nautilus generates missfont.log while generating PDF thumbnails in opened folder

2006-07-20 Thread istoyanov
It turned out that *not* .pdf, but .dvi files cause the missfont.log
file to appear in the user's home folder while (? evince-thumbnailer)
was trying to create a thumbnail. In search for more example .dvi files
I downloaded the AUCTeX manual[1] that also generates the mentioned .log
file and (to my suprise) couldn't[2] be opened by evince.

[Bug 38574] Re: [Bug 38574] Re: Pb syncing treo 650 on dapper drake

2006-07-20 Thread Robert W. Brewer
Tonight I tested a full restore of my palm device. First I synced it with
gnome-pilot, which worked correctly from the GUI. Next I cleared
the memory on the device. The restore results
were disappointing. The restore began properly, then the progress
bars started flashing back and forth wildly, then the palm disconnected
and the progress window appeared to be hung. I could not close
the window. I eventually killed gnome-pilot-applet and gpilotd.
I started gpilotd manually without gnome-pilot-applet and the
restore appeared to be going much better. After several
minutes the palm reported that it was complete and prompted me to
reset the device, but gpilotd appeared to be hung still trying to
transfer data. When
I reset the device, it got a fatal exception during bootup. This problem was
no doubt because the restore was only partially completed.

Needless to say it appears this process is still far too flaky to
be my primary means of backing up the device. Once again for reference
this is while running the 2.6.17.6 kernel on an up-to-date dapper drake.

2006-07-20 Thread Adam Lukens
Sorry, in cutting out the bug buddy text designed to go to
bugs.gnome.org to post here, I inadvertantly removed my version, etc.
I'm running Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 LTS. It segfaults in xine-ui as well.
As far as the title is concerned, I'll try and do better next time, but
I'm not quite sure how to add more information with the limited amount
of info I had to begin with. Also, I should've posted that I was
building a debug package and thus withheld the terse backtrace I was
given, but I was in a hurry, so I apoligize about that. Attached is the
backtrace from the debugging package of xine-ui, however, the error
appears to be in libxine... off to build another debug package...

[Bug 53592] Lack of easy authentication for system files

2006-07-20 Thread aysiu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When a user with sudo privileges double-clicks a system file, she is
unable to save it, and if it's read-only for root, then she is told
she's "unable to open" said file.

Rather than being denied access, a user with sudo rights should have a
dialogue that allows her to grant herself administrative privileges
(should she wish to) to view or modify the file.

This dialogue would be similar to gDebi's dialogue allowing one to
install .deb files with a double-click.

[Bug 53575] Random screensaver is always the same one

2006-07-20 Thread shanen \(Shannon Jacobs\)
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to the Dapper Drake, the random screen saver feature has
always been locked on one specific screensaver, the one called Xylap.

(Actually, I'd rather remove all of the screen savers and just use a

I've just spoken with one of the cdbs Debian maintainers who takes care

[Bug 53568] Re: [Edgy] python-distutils class assumes pycentral if DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM not defined

2006-07-20 Thread Jérémie Corbier
Thanks for your bug report. Please take a closer look at python-
distutils.mk.in and especially at the beginning of the file (starting
from line 51):

--- 8< ---
ifeq (pysupport, $(DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM))
(...)
else
  ifeq (pycentral, $(DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM))
(...)
  else
ifneq (, $(DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM))
$(error unsupported Python system: $(DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM) (select either
pysupport or pycentral))
else
(...)
  ifneq (, $(cdbs_use_xs_field))
$(error Your package uses the new Python policy; you must set
DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM to "pysupport" or "pycentral".)
  endif
(...)
endif # unknown method
  endif # pycentral
endif # pysupport
--- 8< ---

Therefore if you try to build a package following the new python policy
(e.g. if there's a debian/pycompat file) and without defining
DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM the build will fail. If cdbs can't find a clue about
whether the package follows the new or the old policy and if
DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM is not defined then the package will be built
following the old policy (and it will display a big fat warning ;))

[Bug 53572] Rhythmbox window expands off the screen when opening certain radio streams

2006-07-20 Thread Ryan Zeigler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have a 1024x768 monitor. When I open the following stream:

http://64.236.34.4:80/stream/1032

The title seems to cause Rhythmbox to expand off the right side of my
screen, making it larger than the width of my screen. This is
undesirable as I have to drag it to make its window buttons visible
again.

A better behavior would be if Rhythmbox truncates steam or file names
that are 2 long.

[Bug 53563] [Edgy] Bashism in python-distutils.mk

2006-07-20 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Public bug reported:

python-distutils.mk uses a convention for an if clause that is not
common to all POSIX shells.

instead of:
cdbs_selected_pycompat := $(shell if [[ -e debian/pycompat ]]; then cat

it should say:
cdbs_selected_pycompat := $(shell if [ -e debian/pycompat ]; then cat

[Bug 52405] Re: gnome-panel eats 50% cpu for half an hour and flickers

After trying "gnome-session-remove gnome-panel; MENU_VERBOSE=1

"file:///etc/xdg/menus/debian-menu.menu" created, marking tree for
recanonicalization" seems to make gnome-panel loops.

gnome-menus try to write to the symlink /etc/xdg/debian-menu.menu. In
my system this symlink is inactive (it points to /var/lib/menu-
xdg/menus/debian-menu.menu which doesn't exist).

If you delete this symlink, the menu works perfectly.

[Bug 38574] Re: [Bug 38574] Re: Pb syncing treo 650 on dapper drake

2006-07-20 Thread Robert W. Brewer
After some more playing around, I discovered that the timeout value
of 0 in gpilotd-control-applet was causing gpilot to hang at the end
of the sync. I changed that timeout to 4 seconds and now gpilotd
can perform multiple syncs without having to be killed and restarted.
I had changed it to 0 seconds due to another message somewhere
saying that was a recommended fix for some of these USB sync issues.
I rebooted just to see if that would help with the gpilotd GUIs...
and now it's working! I've done 5 correct syncs in a row via gnome-pilot's
standard GUI interfaces.

So it does appear that moving to the 2.6.17.x kernel is what corrected the
issue for me too.

[Bug 53539] Totem-xine hangs when seeking fast in AVI video with subtitles enabled

2006-07-20 Thread Ripper
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-xine

Playing AVI video (divx/xvid) with subtitles enabled (srt, windows-1250
encoding) and seeking very fast with cursor keys results in Totem gui
being totally unresponsive. Killing application is the only way.

Problem occurs only when subtitles are enabled. Does not occur when
seeking via progress bar (you can't seek fast), and mostly does not
occur when you press cursor keys (left/right) only once. When you press
cursor keys a few times in a rapid fashion (or hold it for a while),
after few seeks the GUI hangs and is unresponsive to mouse or keys.
Video and sound still plays. Only way is to kill Totem.

In my case, I tried it on at least 10 different videos, and on two
computers (both Ubuntu 6.06, one fglrx and one radeon video driver).
Happens on 100%, every time!

Using Ubuntu 6.06, Totem 1.4.1 with xine-lib 1.1.1.

Happens also in Kaffeine. So I thought it's a xine bug, but xine-ui is working
fine. I think it is because xine-ui does not seek "ahead". When you seek in
xine-ui, it takes some time, and you can seek again only after previous seek
has completed (so it is quite slow). In Totem, you can seek more rapidly (and
therefore faster), but when subtitles enabled, this bug occurs. Makes Totem
(and Kaffeine) totally unusable for watching movies with subtitles, hangs every
while.

I have reported this bug also on official Totem bugtracker (Gnome bugzilla):
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348110
but I could not provide backtrace, so the bug was put away as NEEDINFO. To
provide backtrace I needed debug version of xinelib, which is not available in
Ubuntu repositories. I was advised to file a bug against my distribution
(Ubuntu). I hope it will get further in here, it is really serious bug, it
blocks using Totem when displaying movie with subtitles (every movie in my
case).

[Bug 38574] Re: Pb syncing treo 650 on dapper drake

2006-07-20 Thread Matt Davey
Glad that the kernel update appears to solve this issue, and that
setting a non-zero timeout appears to solve the problem with the ttyUSB
devices hanging around after a sync completes. I'm pretty sure this
latter issue has been solved in gnome-pilot CVS, and the timeout=0 trick
is only required for pilot-link 0.12.0 pre-releases (and maybe Suse's
patched 0.11.8 version).

Regards,
Matt

[Bug 53527] Settings are lost when upgrading

2006-07-20 Thread Pekka Kujansuu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

It seems like gdm can lose some settings when it's been upgraded to a new
version. In particular, I had gdm set up to login automatically as a certain
user. The system was upgraded to Dapper from Breezy, and when it was rebooted,
the login screen came up instead of my desktop. This has actually happened
before, but I'm not quite sure if it was during the upgrade from Hoary to
Breezy or if it was a regular package upgrade.
I also have to note that this happened on my parents' system, and I use Kubuntu
on my own system, so I cannot provide you with much additional information.

[Bug 44436] Re: disks-manager wrongly reports DVD drive as CD-ROM

2006-07-20 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I am not sure why this has been categorize low priority. I added some
more information to the upstream bug. I really think this is an
important usability issue, as more people use DVD-R/W drives and this
seems to imply Ubuntu is incable of rightly identifying this "simple"
device. I deal with lots of new Ubuntu users and it's getting hard to
explain this, if it is only a label problem.

[Bug 53520] screensaver activates after setting clock forward

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

When adjusting the clock one hour forward.. i found it odd that the
screensaver immediately kicked in when clicking ok. When it happened a
second time i realised that the screensaver must be using the system-
time to determine idle-time.

[Bug 53512] Wrong value for Xnest binary path in gdm.conf

2006-07-20 Thread nujoom
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Package: gdm
Version: 2.14.6-0ubuntu2
Severity: important

gdm.conf has wrong path to Xnest binary.
It points to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xnest but the real path is /usr/bin/Xnest.

After you install the xnest package gdmflexiserver -n failes.
After correcting the value it is working.
