[Bug 38574] Re: [Bug 38574] Re: Pb syncing treo 650 on dapper drake
Tonight I tested a full restore of my palm device. First I synced it with gnome-pilot, which worked correctly from the GUI. Next I cleared the memory on the device. The restore results were disappointing. The restore began properly, then the progress bars started flashing back and forth wildly, then the palm disconnected and the progress window appeared to be hung. I could not close the window. I eventually killed gnome-pilot-applet and gpilotd. I started gpilotd manually without gnome-pilot-applet and the restore appeared to be going much better. After several minutes the palm reported that it was complete and prompted me to reset the device, but gpilotd appeared to be hung still trying to transfer data. When I reset the device, it got a fatal exception during bootup. This problem was no doubt because the restore was only partially completed. Needless to say it appears this process is still far too flaky to be my primary means of backing up the device. Once again for reference this is while running the 2.6.17.6 kernel on an up-to-date dapper drake. -Rob -- Robert W. Sorry, in cutting out the bug buddy text designed to go to bugs.gnome.org to post here, I inadvertantly removed my version, etc. I'm running Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 LTS. It segfaults in xine-ui as well. As far as the title is concerned, I'll try and do better next time, but I'm not quite sure how to add more information with the limited amount of info I had to begin with. Also, I should've posted that I was building a debug package and thus withheld the terse backtrace I was given, but I was in a hurry, so I apoligize about that. When I open the following stream: http://64.236.34.4:80/stream/1032 The title seems to cause Rhythmbox to expand off the right side of my screen, making it larger than the width of my screen. This is undesirable as I have to drag it to make its window buttons visible again. [Bug 38574] Re: [Bug 38574] Re: Pb syncing treo 650 on dapper drake
After some more playing around, I discovered that the timeout value of 0 in gpilotd-control-applet was causing gpilot to hang at the end of the sync. I changed that timeout to 4 seconds and now gpilotd can perform multiple syncs without having to be killed and restarted. I had changed it to 0 seconds due to another message somewhere saying that was a recommended fix for some of these USB sync issues. I rebooted just to see if that would help with the gpilotd GUIs... and now it's working! I've done 5 correct syncs in a row via gnome-pilot's standard GUI interfaces. So it does appear that moving to the 2.6.17.x kernel is what corrected the issue for me too. -Rob -- Robert W. [Bug 53539] Totem-xine hangs when seeking fast in AVI video with subtitles enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem-xine Playing AVI video (divx/xvid) with subtitles enabled (srt, windows-1250 encoding) and seeking very fast with cursor keys results in Totem gui being totally unresponsive. Killing application is the only way. Problem occurs only when subtitles are enabled. Does not occur when seeking via progress bar (you can't seek fast), and mostly does not occur when you press cursor keys (left/right) only once. When you press cursor keys a few times in a rapid fashion (or hold it for a while), after few seeks the GUI hangs and is unresponsive to mouse or keys. Video and sound still plays. Only way is to kill Totem. In my case, I tried it on at least 10 different videos, and on two computers (both Ubuntu 6.06, one fglrx and one radeon video driver). Happens on 100%, every time! Using Ubuntu 6.06, Totem 1.4.1 with xine-lib 1.1.1. Happens also in Kaffeine. So I thought it's a xine bug, but xine-ui is working fine. I think it is because xine-ui does not seek "ahead". When you seek in xine-ui, it takes some time, and you can seek again only after previous seek has completed (so it is quite slow). In Totem, you can seek more rapidly (and therefore faster), but when subtitles enabled, this bug occurs. Makes Totem (and Kaffeine) totally unusable for watching movies with subtitles, hangs every while. I have reported this bug also on official Totem bugtracker (Gnome bugzilla): http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348110 but I could not provide backtrace, so the bug was put away as NEEDINFO. To provide backtrace I needed debug version of xinelib, which is not available in Ubuntu repositories. I was advised to file a bug against my distribution (Ubuntu). I hope it will get further in here, it is really serious bug, it blocks using Totem when displaying movie with subtitles (every movie in my case). ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Totem-xine hangs when seeking fast in AVI video with subtitles enabled https://launchpad.net/bugs/53539 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Package: gdm Version: 2.14.6-0ubuntu2 Severity: important gdm.conf has wrong path to Xnest binary. It points to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xnest but the real path is /usr/bin/Xnest. After you install the xnest package gdmflexiserver -n failes.
