[Bug 56457] Re: gnome-session-properties: Running a script in a subdirectory with spaces in name is not possible
Workaround The workaround is simple. Edit the file ~/.config/autostart/nice.desktop directly (the file might be called different when viewed with nautilus, like No name). Now everything is like normal and next lines with both work: sh /home/jdo/Scripts and Settings/Bash Scripts/startup.sh sh /home/jdo/Scripts\ and\ Settings/Bash\ Scripts/startup.sh But I have to remember not to press the 'edit'-button on that line in the 'start program'-tab of the gnome-session-properties. [Bug 56567] Internationalization policy question
Public bug reported: The stock watcher (now called invest applet) has been in gnome-applets for _years_, and it still only works with US stocks. My question is, is it reasonable to have it mandatory in this package? Why not move it out as something optional. When gnome is meant to _not_ be confusing, I think having applets that are 100% useless to the _vast_ majority of the earth's population and never will be able to be used by them, I think it's pretty confusing. [Other applets might be useless unless you have a laptop, or modem etc. But at least people _might_ buy a laptop, or get a modem. Moving to US is not really an option to most, ever in their life (or investing in US stocks in any other way).] So, my request is; either add support for lots of more stock markets, or move it out as some locale-specific optional applet. I don't want it on my hard drive, and I don't want to have to see it in the list of applets (where the rest of the applets are at least theoretically something I could use). Thanks. ** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Internationalization policy question https://launchpad.net/bugs/56567 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 16454] Re: sound still comes out of speakers when PCM volume is set to 0
@Daniel T Chen I urge you to reconsider your decision. The user case is clear: I am listening to music (not to a CD, not to sound from the input line, it is PCM output). The volume is controlled by the PCM slide. Moving the slide to 0 does not turn the volume off. I know how to unmute and mute, thanks. That is not the point. Setting the volume slide to 0 should do precisely that: set the volume level to zero. Otherwise there is something odd with the relation between the volume slide value and the actual volume. All this applies to amixer, so it is an issue with ALSA, not gnome. Finally, although I have already explained why muting/unmuting is not the point here, it is worth metioning the following: Yes, you are right Muting PCM does not automatically imply that _all_ output should be muted. However, muting PCM DOES imply that all output THROUGH PCM should be muted. Or are you saying that muting the CD output does not imply that all the output from the CD should be muted? Therefore, please, revert the status back to Confirmed. -- sound still comes out of speakers when PCM volume is set to 0 https://launchpad.net/bugs/16454 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 16454] Re: sound still comes out of speakers when PCM volume is set to 0
Daniel; you suggest that for those of using the gnome mixer stuff that we should file a bug against that; I did (24090) - it got closed because it is similar to this one - I can't win hey? I suggest there really are two separate bugs: 1) Somewhere in the mixer hardware/driver a setting of '0' on the 'master' mixer does not cause the output to be muted; it is possible that this is what the hardware expects; but it's also possible its just a driver bug; either way it either needs fixing in the driver or actually definining that '0' is just quieter than '1'; and needs to be consistant accross different cards. 2) The gnome-applet expects '0' to be equivalent to mute and thus displays its mute symbol (and doesn't let you set the real mute). Hence why I filed 24090. I suggest reopening 24090 to attack the gnome bug; I'm not sure what the right answer to (1) is - if the hardware really doesn't mute on 0 volume then I guess it's ok to define it like that; but it is probably confusing as hell but I guess it isn't consistant accross the different cards. (The text of the reject in 24090 seems odd - it seems to ref bug 10155 which is completely different) -- sound still comes out of speakers when PCM volume is set to 0 https://launchpad.net/bugs/16454 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Yes, this problem is still there. [Bug 16454] Re: sound still comes out of speakers when PCM volume is set to 0
I have to agree with Daniel about this not being a kernel bug. This has to be a mixer problem. If putting both Master and PCM at zero mutes, it, but leaving one on zero and the other not, doesn't mute it, then that's a mixer logic error. Also, if gnome assumes zero is mute, then maybe gnome should actually mute it when it's put on zero (sort of an indirect mute). ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: linux-source-2.6.15 = gnome-media Assignee: Ben Collins = (unassigned) -- sound still comes out of speakers when PCM volume is set to 0 https://launchpad.net/bugs/16454 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 56606] critical bad copy command
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus i got my music (over 40G) structure as follows : 80's - on 2 folders : '80-84' and '85-89' 90's - on 2 folders : '90-94' and '95-99' and so on... on each one of them i got the following sub-folders : ballads, rock, dance, pop then i select 3 of this main folders ('85-89','90-94','95-99') and pasted them on a backup hard disk. as a backup hdd, it had much of the same folders and files, so it came up a dialog, of what i wanted to do...i choose replace them all (this is a translated option, don't know exact words in english). the copy stop at some point of the first copy folder ('85-89'), and it didn't copy the rest of it. even more, it removes the rest of the files. so on '90-94', for example, i got the other 4 sub-folders with nothing at all inside of them!!! then, i made some test... 1º i made a copy on destination hdd (the backup hdd), but before i delete all files and folders. the copy was good. 2º made a copy on destination with already existing files and folders (the same file and folders), the dialog appears and choose the same...replace them all. the copy stop again at some point. 3º made a sub-folder copy to destination with already existing copy, the copy fails again with some file. 4º made a sub-folder to sub-folder copy (i get into de subfolder, so i saw just files, no folder). the replacement copy works over the existing files. so i did this last one over the rest of the sub-folders. some notes on this bug : - source folder is on fat32, destination folders are on ext3. - large filenames, like : Whitney Houston - i wanna dance with somebody - 12''.mp3 (didn't include the path) - iso8859-1 characters filenames. like : Zalo Reyes - Motivo Y Razón.mp3 (but this type of files are copied anyway with the 4º method) with more time, will try to do it on command line. but some guy take this to be in contact. cu ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- critical bad copy command https://launchpad.net/bugs/56606 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
