[Bug 58431] Wish: Please UNFOLD Gtk save dialogs as default
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0 Please patch Gtk so that the save dialogs pop up unfolded so that one do NOT has to unfold it EVERY TIME he/she wants to save a file which is very, very disturbing! I saw a patch for that on the following page - it's for Gentoo so I don't know if it is also usable for Ubuntu: http://twc.sshunet.nl/~mpsindla/files/gtk+-dialog.patch I hoped that this will be done in Edgy but there, there are still this - not so well thought - folded save dialogs. [Bug 58403] adding smb printer difficult on large networks
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager This is a major nuisance, and after having many people talk to me for help I've decided to report it as a bug, because this severely inhibits the ability to add an SMB printer on large networks (for example... our campus network) When you go to the System --> Administration --> Printing window and click on the "New Printer" tool, all starts as normal. In this case, you click Network Printer and change it to SMB. As soon as you get to the next page, the wizard apparently begins scanning/probing the local network (perhaps just the subnet? I'm not sure) for SMB print servers. This is where the trouble begins. As it finds servers requiring authentication, it pops up an obnoxious little window asking for a username and password. Depending on network traffic and server/workstation response times, this can pop up almost instantly after you click Cancel or hit escape, requiring you to close these tens or hundreds of authentication popups before you can successfully put in the information for the printer you [most likely] already know the server and name of. Someone will probably suggest filing this under wishlist, but I strongly urge you to file it as a bug since it severely cripples network printing abilities on medium to large networks. My suggestion is that this doesn't automatically scan, that a scan button needs to be clicked before it does so. There are many ubuntu users on our campus, and this bug is a nuisance (to say the least) for everyone. ** Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- adding smb printer difficult on large networks https://launchpad.net/bugs/58403 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Now, when I get an alert from a window which is on my current workspace the window representation in the window list "throbs" light and dark-- cool! Currently I'm seeing this in Sound Juicer: when I use "Extract" to rip one of my CDs, SJ will publish an alert when it's done so if I'm in the same workspace but without SJ selected I see the alert... but I'm always always off working in another workspace and so I don't get the alert. I can confirm this on Edgy with abiword 2.4.5. If you press REPLACE ALL at the very beginning though you get 'bar bar bar', whether anything is selected or not.
