[Bug 58431] Wish: Please UNFOLD Gtk save dialogs as default

2006-08-31 Thread felix.rommel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

Please patch Gtk so that the save dialogs pop up unfolded so that one do
NOT has to unfold it EVERY TIME he/she wants to save a file which is
very, very disturbing!

I saw a patch for that on the following page - it's for Gentoo so I
don't know if it is also usable for Ubuntu:

http://twc.sshunet.nl/~mpsindla/files/gtk+-dialog.patch

I hoped that this will be done in Edgy but there, there are still this -
not so well thought - folded save dialogs. But it would be nice to also
have this for Dapper.

Thank you.

[Bug 43439] Re: enable animation key doesn't affect shoutdown dialog

2006-08-31 Thread Vassilis Pandis
Please tell me I'm the first person to fix an ubuntulove bug :-)

Attached you will find a patch for gnome-session-2.15.92/gnome-
session/logout.c that fixes the described issue (for me at least :-) .

I'm not sure whether gconf_value_get_bool() tolerates a NULL argument so
I am not sure what happens when the key is missing (I didn't find an
obvious way to delete the key so I couldn't test this).

Hi there,

Could you please run the following commands to help us figure out why
your power button is ignored?

  $ gnome-session-remove gnome-power-manager
  $ gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose 2>&1 | tee /tmp/g-p-m.log

Then, hit the power button a few times.

Next, please run:
  $ gconftool -R /apps/gnome-power-manager 2>&1 | tee /tmp/gconf.log

You should attach these /tmp/g-p-m.log and /tmp/gconf.log to this bug

[Bug 58403] adding smb printer difficult on large networks

2006-08-31 Thread Ryan Rawdon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

This is a major nuisance, and after having many people talk to me for
help I've decided to report it as a bug, because this severely inhibits
the ability to add an SMB printer on large networks (for example... our
campus network)

When you go to the System --> Administration --> Printing window and click on
the "New Printer" tool, all starts as normal. In this case, you click Network
Printer and change it to SMB. As soon as you get to the next page, the wizard
apparently begins scanning/probing the local network (perhaps just the subnet?
I'm not sure) for SMB print servers.

This is where the trouble begins. As it finds servers requiring
authentication, it pops up an obnoxious little window asking for a
username and password. Depending on network traffic and
server/workstation response times, this can pop up almost instantly
after you click Cancel or hit escape, requiring you to close these tens
or hundreds of authentication popups before you can successfully put in
the information for the printer you [most likely] already know the
server and name of.

Someone will probably suggest filing this under wishlist, but I strongly
urge you to file it as a bug since it severely cripples network printing
abilities on medium to large networks.

My suggestion is that this doesn't automatically scan, that a scan
button needs to be clicked before it does so. There are many ubuntu
users on our campus, and this bug is a nuisance (to say the least) for
everyone.

[Bug 57703] Re: Causes repetitive dropouts in playing music

2006-08-31 Thread Isak Savo
Autoaway does nothing to the sound, but it does have a timeout function
with an interval of 5 seconds. The CPU spikes does seem like they appear
at regular interval so maybe this is the issue?

The timeout is setup using xchat_hook_timer() and it polls the status of
the screensaver - maybe something it does is disturbing the sound?

towolf: Are you using X11 screensaver? (autoaway prints which
screensaver it found when it starts up) If not, I doubt it's autoaways
fault, since all it does in the callback for gnome-screensaver is check
the state of a local boolean variable.

[Bug 58395] My USB key seems full, problem

2006-08-31 Thread Alban Crequy
Public bug reported:

I want to copy some files to my USB key but Nautilus File Manager says
"error when copying to /media/usbdisk - Target has not enough free
space".

So I delete enough file and try again. But it does not work even if I
delete all files. I have to empty the trash and then it works.

But how can the user know that he must empty the trash? The error
message says "not enough free space" and I guessed it means "delete
something to recover space" but not "empty the trash".

The trash seems to be on the key and user-related. If the trash is full
by another user files, will I be able to empty the trash to copy my
files on my USB key ?

[Bug 58368] Alert notification not shown in window list for apps in other desktops

2006-08-31 Thread Paul Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.1, with window list applet 2.14.3. I _believe_
this is a bug in the window list applet but it could be somewhere
else...

I prefer to see all my windows for all desktops in my window list, so I
use the window list Preferences to enable "Show windows from all
workspaces".

Now, when I get an alert from a window which is on my current workspace
the window representation in the window list "throbs" light and dark--
cool!

However, when I get an alert from a window which is on some other
workspace, I don't get any alert--not cool :-(.

Currently I'm seeing this in Sound Juicer: when I use "Extract" to rip
one of my CDs, SJ will publish an alert when it's done so if I'm in the
same workspace but without SJ selected I see the alert... but I'm always
always off working in another workspace and so I don't get the alert.

If someone has changed their preference for window list to "Show windows
from all workspaces", they should get alerts for all windows in all
workspaces as well.

[Bug 58287] Re: [22x22/apps] Type should be Threshold

The description of the issue which leaded to that change:

" I think there is a problem with gnome-panel menu icons, check

24x24, but at least sj provide a 24x24 icon

That is probably a gnome-panel or GTK issue but there was discussion on IRC and
I think some #tango guy suggested to lapo that using Fixed for 22x22 would be
fine and fix the issue. Nobody had strong arguments against it so we did the

[Bug 58363] Window extends beyond screen with super-long song name

2006-08-31 Thread javaJake
Public bug reported:

I was listening to clasical music on Sky.fm. Their song "title" extends
way beyond the screen, so the window itself extends. This is extremely
undesirable. When I tell it to go into Full Screen mode with this super
long name, it doesn't work correctly.

2006-08-31 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
I can confirm that *.flv files fail to play in totem on the latest Edgy.
ffmpeg and gstreamet0.10-ffmpeg are installed.

It plays fine in VLC on the same system.

[Bug 49619] Re: "search & replace all" doesn't, if there's a selection

2006-08-31 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
I can confirm this on Edgy with abiword 2.4.5. Exact procedure to
reproduce:

* Open Abiword
* Type 'foo foo foo'
* Go to search/replace
* Type 'foo' in the search box and 'bar' in the replace box
* Hit FIND (it finds the first foo)
* Then hit REPLACE ALL

Expected result: 'bar bar bar'

Actual result: 'foo bar bar'

This happens each time. If you press REPLACE ALL at the very beginning
though you get 'bar bar bar', whether anything is selected or not.

I would call this a bug because the user might search for a word first
and when the result appears discover that there are several instances.
When she subsequently hits Replace All she would expect all the words in
the document to be replaced.

(I'll file this upstream)

** Changed in: abiword (Ubuntu)
   Status: Needs Info => Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- "search & replace all" doesn't, if there's a selection
+ 'Find' followed by 'Replace All' fails to replace the first instance

** Description changed:

+ Update: See comment by Henrik for more procedure to reproduce
+
Type "foo foo foo", go edit -> replace, search "foo" replace "bar", hit
"replace all", result "bar bar bar".

Type "foo foo foo", hilight the text, go edit -> replace, search "foo"
replace "bar", hit "replace all", result "bar foo foo".

[Bug 58137] Re: Evolution calendar incorrectly shows the times of meetings

2006-08-31 Thread David Jennings
** Summary changed:

- Please backport Evolution 2.7 or 2.6.3
+ Evolution calendar incorrectly shows the times of meetings

** Description changed:

In the Dapper release of Evolution (2.6.1) the calendar display
incorrectly shows the times of meetings with different timezones. Alarms
work at the correct time so it is a problem just with the display code.

This is fixed in 2.6.2 on 2004-04-20 according to gnome bugzilla:
  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=339826

This bug goes a long way to making Evolution unusable as a replacement
  for Outlook.
-
- Edgy supports the 2.7 stream, so I would like either a backport of 2.7,
- or 2.6.2 or later.

and again for each of 'sdc', 'sdd', 'sde'. Only 'sda' (the main laptop
