[Bug 45385] Re: no wallpaper for dual head/very wide screen monitors

2006-09-09 Thread Johan Kiviniemi
One alternative is to include a single widescreen image, which will then
be cropped from the sides on a 4:3 screen with the zoom setting.

[Bug 45385] Re: no wallpaper for dual head/very wide screen monitors

2006-09-09 Thread Troy Sobotka
Once everything settles down a little, I don't see why a second or third
version could be constructed for those who want higher resolution walls
across several monitors. The main issue here is package size, and
currently, the proposed solution would fix this immediately with no
impact on package size.

[Bug 57978] Re: [Dapper] metacity does not all Citrix ICAclient (and others) go fullscreen

2006-09-09 Thread Elijah
Metacity pulls non-focused windows out of fullscreen mode (unless the
focus is on a *transient* (e.g. dialog) of the fullscreen application).
This allows users to still recover if a fullscreen app hangs or if the
user simply wants to do something else for a minute. So, this is
expected behavior. To fix this for your Citrix ICAclient case, we'd
need a way to be able to tell the difference between your case and
normal users just leaving their movie players to do something else for a
minute. The easiest fix may be to mark the new windows opened under
Citrix to be transients of the fullscreen Citrix window, which probably
makes sense anyway.

[Bug 12893] Re: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices

2006-09-09 Thread Ryan O'Connor
I think it's a viable solution to move the files to the user's home
directory .Trash, and this is what Dapper does now. BUT, the files
aren't even deleted "permanently" from the flash disk. Can it move them
to the home directory trash and clean up the unused space on the memory
stick? Is that possible? By the way I don't use digital cameras or mp3
players - this behaviour is annoying the hell out of me for plain old
memory sticks.

[Bug 45611] Re: window selection problems

2006-09-09 Thread Elijah
This sounds like bug 57344; it was a race condition most people were not
able to trigger with metacity versions prior to 2.15.34, but which
became easier to trigger with that version. Differences in hardward
definitely affect the ability to reproduce race conditions such as
these, and you may have just been one of the unlucky ones. There's a
patch in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354422 that should
fix this for you, if I'm right about my guess.

[Bug 59703] Import freezes/rhythmbox doesn't exit properly if a wmv file is in the watched directory

2006-09-09 Thread VF
Public bug reported:

I have a wmv file in a directory I tell rhythmbox to watch. The scanning
of file either completes partially or doesn't start. When I go
Music->Exit, rhythmbox is still running in the background and has to be
killed manually. The terminal output is not helpful, although it does
hang when I quit it and I have to ctrl-c manually. When I remove the wmv
file from the watched directory, rhythmbox finishes scanning and quits
normally.

The file's video codec is wmv9 and audio codec is wma8. I'm running
amd64 so I don't have pitfdll and w32codecs installed so I'm not sure if
that will affect this.

[Bug 59702] send to printer

2006-09-09 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-sendto

Hi, it would be convenient when having to print large amounts of
documents, to be able to send them to the printer right from nautilus,
without the need to open each specific file and call a print dialogue
for it. This would greatly improve the desktop's usability in my
opinion.

Please see this mockup:

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/5294/pantallazoenviara1mz9.png

You can see how you can select send to printer (along with send to
evolution, gaim or bluetooth), then under it you can select which
specific priner you want to send the document to. Hitting OK would
ideally call the new GTK printing dialogue.

[Bug 44710] Re: raise_on_click is disabled in 'click_to_focus' mode

2006-09-09 Thread Elijah
Just change this function (in metacity/src/prefs.c):

gboolean
meta_prefs_get_raise_on_click (void)
{
/* Force raise_on_click on for click-to-focus, as requested by Havoc
   * in #326156.
   */
  return raise_on_click || focus_mode == META_FOCUS_MODE_CLICK;
}

so that the function just returns the value of raise_on_click. Given
that Debian/Ubuntu used to have such a feature and it was enabled for
click-to-focus as well, I think that makes the most sense.

[Bug 57344] Re: [Edgy] Focus doesn't always follow window selection

2006-09-09 Thread Elijah
There is a patch in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354422
which has also been applied to upstream CVS. I have left that bug open
however, as I'd like to get more testers to verify whether there is more
than one bug here causing issues (especially since I had a difficult
time reproducing the problems mentioned in these bug reports).

[Bug 48481] Re: shares-admin does not work with double shares

2006-09-09 Thread LordFarquaad
Sorry for my bad English (I am French-speaking) which is probably at the
origin of this confusion.

I use Ubuntu Dapper (kernel 2.6.15-26-k7) and I think I already upgraded
to Dapper at the time of that bug report.

I use shares-admin on my PC to manage the shared folders on both NFS and
SMB as my laptop is also under Ubuntu but the computer of my father is
under Windows, and I want to share the same forlders on both networks.

But now that everything is configured, if I want to modify the
configuration of any shared forlder, I can only do it for the SMB
network and not for NFS, as even by selecting the NFS entry and clicking
on "Properties" it gives me the properties of the SMB entry - and
selecting "NFS" shows an empty NFS configuration.

In fact it is effectively dependant of the order, as adding a new SMB
for a folder already shared on NFS and then trying to configure the new
one makes it fall down to NFS - but as shares-admin seems to load the
SMB config first, It will be the opposite next time.

However I can all the same add or remove shared folders without any
problem.

I could not try to reproduce this bug on another computer (my laptop is
currently in repair...)

[Bug 59660] Gnome-media Volume Applet controls wrong device when volume control in USB headset is operated

2006-09-09 Thread Paul Stimpson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Distro: Ubuntu Dapper 6.06
Package: gnome-media 2.14.2-0ubuntu1
Application: Volume Applet 2.14.3 using Gstreamer 0.10

Background: I have a Logitech Premium USB Headset 350
(http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/GB/EN,CRID=103,CONTENTID=10013)

It includes volume and mic mute buttons in the cord. When I click the
volume buttons the Gnome Volume Applet OSD appears and the bar inside
it reflects the changes I am requesting with the buttons but the headset
volume does not change. Opening the applet reveals that the master
volume on my laptop's ICH6 on-board device is being changed rather than
the volume of the USB headset. If I explicitly set the Logitech device I
can set the volume by dragging the slider inside the Volume Applet but
not with the buttons or the quick volume slider that appears if I click
the applet icon.

[Bug 23842] [network-admin] Long delay in gnome login

2006-09-09 Thread draknet
Public bug reported:

Login to Gnome from gdm to full desktop takes 5 minutes. This seems to be due to
"auto lo" missing from /etc/network/interfaces.

I checked this behavior:

1. Without a network cable plugged in the login from completing the gdm login
until full desktop is about 25s. Logout is also just a couple of seconds.
2. With network cable plugged and lo _not_ configured the login time is around 5
minutes! Logout is also some minutes.
3. With network cable plugged and lo configured the login time is again 25s.
Logon again a couple of seconds.

[Bug 3574] Re: Help button doesn't work in gnome-about-me

2006-09-09 Thread Vassilis Pandis
AFAIK from upstream comments, the problem is that there is no
documentation to go with the Help button. So IMVHO it's better to hide
the button until somebody writes up the documentation so that users
don't click on it and wonder "why doesn't is show help". It's not a
solution of course. It's a workaround until somebody writes the docs.

[Bug 27896] [network-admin] Need iwconfig ... restricted ... to get on some networks

2006-09-09 Thread Nicolai Langfeldt
Public bug reported:

I use the /usr/bin/network-admin tool to manage my networks on a centrino with
2200 wifi chipset. Excellent tool.

I've found that when I use this the security mode is set to "open". To get onto
the WiFi network at work this needs to be "restricted". open/restricted radio
buttons would seem in order. When I issue

  iwconfig eth1 key restricted 1 ------..

the machine associates with the base station at once.

Thanks,
  Nicolai

[Bug 54478] Re: [network-admin] bug with several location in System->Networking (network-admin)

2006-09-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. You probably have been confused by the way network-admin
works on dapper.
When you add a profile it's created with the information you have at the
moment. When you do changes, you don't modify the selected profile but the
running session. To store the changes to add profile you have to add a profile
with the same name. Reading that, do you think the tool works as described or
do you still have some non expected behaviour from it?

The way the tool work on dapper is really not obvious and we worked with
upstream to change that on edgy. Now the "add" button next to the
profile has been changed to a "save" one which open a window asking for
the name of the profile to use and the name is preset to the current
profile. Do you think that behaviour change fixes your issue?

[Bug 52022] [network-admin] gnome-system-tools does not support 802.1x or WPA

2006-09-09 Thread Matthew Carpenter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

gnome-system-tools does not support 802.1x or WPA.
This functionality has been moved into ifupdown, which is directly manipulated
by gnome-system-tools (network-admin), potentially overwriting the
configuration of network devices.

"GNOME interactive logout because the power button has been pressed". It
just has no effect on the system.

[Bug 59635] Drag & drop extract gives false extract the first time

2006-09-09 Thread Ryan O'Connor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

When dragging a selection from "Archive Manager" aka. file-roller onto
another folder in nautilus (gnome), before I can let go of the mouse -
it seems when I drag the selection past the window border of archive
manager - it says "extracting files.." in the status bar for about 1/2
second and the drag icon goes away. This is very annoying and I have to
go back and drag it again. The 2nd and 3rd time around, etc. it works
fine - it's just the first time it "lets go of my mouse for me"
prematurely. I don't know how else to describe this, so please ask if
you ened more info. I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.
