[Bug 59760] Shutdown button isn't clickable if you hover above it before the dialog appears

2006-09-10 Thread Patrick Wijnings
Public bug reported:

When I choose System>Shutdown or click on the shutdown button on the
panel, and move the mouse to the position where the button in the dialog
is going to appear, before the dialog is displayed, the button isn't
clickable (and it isn't displayed in 'hover' state) until I move the
mouse away and back on the button again.

This happens with all buttons in the dialog (even the Cancel button) on
both my laptop, my desktop system and my parent's system, both with and
without Xgl.

This happens every time and is easy to reproduce (especially on slow systems):
1. Click the Shutdown button on the panel
2. Move the mouse to the position where the Shutdown-button in the dialog is
going to appear before it actually appears (you have to be fast!)
3. Try to click the button

All systems are running Dapper (with the new shutdown dialog)

[Bug 59774] Nautilus crashes copying a directory from a ssh directory source

2006-09-10 Thread LuisG
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Distribution: Ubuntu 6.06 (dapper)
Package: nautilus
Severity: Normal
Version: GNOME2.14.3 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: Nautilus crashes copying a directory from a ssh directory source
Bugzilla-Product: nautilus
Bugzilla-Component: File and Folder Operations
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.14.1)
Description:
Description of the crash:
When copying a directory from a ssh shared directory on Ubuntu 5.10 to folder
on Ubuntu 6.06, Nautilus closes unexpectedly.
It always happens with this specific directory, and in this specific
file. This directory is "exiv2-0.10/src/.libs" from "exiv2-0-10"
sources. Error always arises when copying file libexiv2-0.10.so. Whever, it is
possible to copy this file alone.

Steps to reproduce the crash:
1. Setup ssh server on Ubuntu 5.10
2. Connect from Ubuntu 6.06 through Nautilus, using ssh
3. Copy "exiv2-0-10/src/.libs" directory from "exiv2-0-10" sources to local
machine by drag n' drop in nautilus
4. Nautilus crashes

Expected Results:
Copy any file or directory with no crashing, even if there is a failure in
other module like ssh.

How often does this happen?
Always, under the conditions above.

Additional Information:
I can give a screenshot and a .gz whith .libs folder if you want.

I confirm this. Same thing happened to me with nautilus and stacktrace looks
very much the same. Few applications that listen DBUS are known to "shutdown"
when service is restarted (rhythmbox and bashene), but this time BugBuddy
notified that a crash happened.

I can reproduce same crash with nautilus just by restarting DBUS service

[Bug 59664] Re: Edgy - Crash attempting to play MP3 stream (Internet radio)

2006-09-10 Thread Mark W. Tomlinson
Sebastien - I just tried playing the station again and & worked fine. I
dunno if this was just a one-off glitch or if some subsequent update
fixed it...

My currently installed version of Rhythmbox is 0.9.5-1ubuntu5 - do you
still want me to rebuild with the patch? If so, I'll need some help -
while I've built simple packages (i.e. ./configure + ./make + ./make-
install), I've never applied a patch in the process.

http://johan.kiviniemi.name/tmp/severis_wallpaper-monitor_aspects

Additionally, although that is a nice picture, it might have a bit too
much contrast for a desktop background. Of course that's just a question
of taste.

Hi Sebastien,

this issue was verified with an Ubuntu Dapper system. The problem is
that one exactly: I can see that multiple connections are opened to the
FTP server and none are closed.

I see this too with edgy and totem-gstreamer. Autoplay works, totem
dvd:// from command line works too. Playing from the totem menu
movie->play disc it fails.

[Bug 59342] Re: hal don't find that I'm on a laptop

2006-09-10 Thread VETSEL Patrice
I'v installed last foresight distribution just for test this problem (same
version of hal but with less patchs). All is fine with it. So we have a problem
:)
I'v also recompiled hal, disactivating all patches except one patch to allow
built, and problem is again present.
Except hal, is there anything (external) that can modify the key formfactor ?

[Bug 45385] Re: [Bug 45385] Re: no wallpaper for dual head/very wide screen monitors

2006-09-10 Thread rick.duff
This template is perfect. Check out of the other work in the stream and
set "Best Stuff" or "widescreeen"

Low contrast one of the stairs had some good feedback, and the candle.

Keep in mind Vista RC1 has gone towards including pro photo work for
their desktops and I would be happy to donate any of my work, since I
did shoot all of these images and own all the copyrights to everything
and would only ask for someone on the team to review and select the work
that I need to work with gimp/photoshop. ( I work in windows and ubuntu
as do most artists I know )

I'll take a few more and have them fit into the dual screen template you
created. the 3800 pixel images are better candidates and I have a new
Canon 30D camera coming next week which will give me larger originals.

Most of my work was shot with a 6mp Nikon.

Additionally, although that is a nice picture, it might have a bit too
much contrast for a desktop background. Of course that's just a question
of taste.

[Bug 59832] gdm crash when closing a window

2006-09-10 Thread smurf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Hi to all.
I have ubuntu dapper running on AMD athlon 64 2800, kernel is
2.6.15-26-amd64-k8.
Quite often my gdm crash when I press the x button in upper right corner of a
window. The desktop freeze but other tools (ie music player) continue to work.
I found in /var/log/gdm some log files named :o.log.x and one or two of these
gets huge size:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 928 2006-09-10 22:22 :0.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 28765374 2006-09-10 22:21 :0.log.1
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1159 2006-09-10 12:18 :0.log.4

the content of the biggest one (:0.log.1 in this case) is only the
follow line:

Freeing resource id=40A017E6 which isn't there.

As well I found another log always with the same time in system log,
like this:

Sep 10 22:22:29 localhost gconfd (luca-4430): The address
"xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" has been changed to a read only
configuration source in position0
Sep 10 22:22:29 localhost gconfd (luca-4430): The address
"xml:readwrite:/home/luca/.gconf" has been changed to a writable configuration
source in position 1
Sep 10 22:22:29 localhost gconfd (luca-4430): The address
"xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" has been changed to a read only
configuration source in position 2
Sep 10 22:22:29 localhost gconfd (luca-4430): The address
"xml:readonly:/var/lib/gconf/debian.defaults" has been changed to a read only
configuration source in position 3
Sep 10 22:22:29 localhost gconfd (luca-4430): The address
"xml:readonly:/var/lib/gconf/defaults" has been changed to a read only
configuration source in position 4

(I translated this from italian, so maybe instead of "changed" it should
sound better "resolved" but I'm unsure... sorry for that)

But I don't know if there is any relationship between the two events.

I hope to find a solution for this because it make the system very
unstable.

Thanks a lot.

I've applied the patch locally and i've been using it for an hour or so.
Usually the bug strikes a couple of times in the first hour.

So far i've been unable to loose focus with the patch.

[Bug 32685] Re: no devanagari in keyboard indicator applet

2006-09-10 Thread Arjuna
The Gnome Keyboard Indicator displays _country_code_ for selected
keyboard, but not its ISO language code. This is confusing in a country
with several languages, for instance in india. When one wants to have
hindi, bengoli, tamil and malayalam keyboards, the indicator only
displays Ind*. And if one lives in Swizerland, it displays Che* when
Swiss-french of Swiss-german keyboard layout is selected.

It should display the 3-letter ISO language code, hin, ben, tam, mal,
gem, fre.. And if some variant of these are used, only then the
asterisk should be used. For instance, should one want to use hindi
phonetic (IPA) variant, the indicator should display hin*. And in case
of swiss-french layout, it should be fre*, rather than Che*

The ISO language codes can be found here:

I would also point out that Vista has been pushed back
for countless reasons, some of which include their
design directions.

In strict terms of contrast, form should ultimately
follow function. Wallpaper in a house is rarely composed
of images because it must serve both an aesthetic purpose
as well as a functional requirement.

Wallpaper on a desktop should be no different. Examine
how text and icons appear over the varied portions of the
image and you will probably see the result.

Further still, we explored photography at the beginning
of the cycle and there were many issues. Anything shy
of abstract runs the risk of a very distinct connotation,
something that was not desired.

Sincerely,
TJS
