Public bug reported: I tested the September 5, 2006 release of the edgy i386 desktop CD and ran it as a liveCD. [Bug 61706] Re: HAL error after return out of hibernation
I'm afraid to say, trouble is back and worse. I can only see this problem as the cause. -Since hibenation worked I continued using it, untill the last time, the error message returned. Since all progrmams worked I ignored it. I did a liitle work, even changing users showed no problems. But then I logged back into my own account, I by just pointing the mouse at the clock applet made it crash. While trying to send an error report X crashed, I tried to reboot, but mouting of hda1 with the root dir failed, fsck automatic failed. [Bug 48289] Re: Gnome desktop screen is offset to the right by 1/2 Icon
To Start, i'm now running Edgy. And xorg.conf was in /etc/X11, not /etc/init.d. Luca, I just tried your fix, but X failed to start, probably because of a syntax error. However, for some reason, my backup copy of xorg.conf failed to be saved, and I didn't realize it until I had removed my modified version. Disaster, you say? No! Ubuntu must have a fail-safe backup file somewhere, and gnome starts up anyway -- only now the screen offset is gone! The response is much slower, so the radeon driver probably isn't being loaded. Also, when I use the system/preferences menu to change the resolution, it doesn't work. I think that I can live with this until edgy is released, then I'll re-install and get the xorg.conf file back that way. [Bug 36846] Re: The filesystem type of a volume is identified incorrectly.
A way to "fix" the partition, so that it doesn't get detected as a msdos/vfat partition, is to take away the msdos magic: echo "T" | sudo dd of=/dev/hda5 seek=510 count=1 bs=1 (where hda5 is the misdetected partition of course) If you for any reason would like the msdos magic back: echo "U" | sudo dd of=/dev/hda5 seek=510 count=1 bs=1 The origin of the problem is that the libvolume.c checks for a vfat partition (and is happy with the magic match) before it checks for e.g. a ext2/3 partition. -- The filesystem type of a volume is identified incorrectly. https://launchpad.net/bugs/36846 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 62660] File Chooser: changing the path in the location bar does not update list view
Public bug reported: (problem in edgy) In the file chooser, changing the location using the location/address bar does not update the list. for example, if I want to select a file located in /usr/lib/jvm : - with the old (dapper) file dialog I would press CTRL+L, type /usr/lib/jvm, press Enter (the list view gets updated to the path I've chosen) and then choose the file by browsing the list. - with the new (edgy) file dialog, if I type /usr/lib/jvm in the address bar and then press Enter, the open button gets clicked (so to open the file, without entering the whole path including the filename in the address bar, I'm forced to navigate in the file list) ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- File Chooser: changing the path in the location bar does not update list view https://launchpad.net/bugs/62660 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

However the message window will appear to be stuck on the same message and won't move. Public bug reported: Currently utc is causing people problems as they might not understand what it does if enabled during the installation and they want to change the setting later when they experience problems. Example of such problem is when user has a dualboot machine, where Windows and Linux are in different time, because utc is enabled. ( I recently fixed such problem myself. ) Obvious place to look for such setting is the date & time settings, so we should add there an option where utc could be enabled or disabled. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Confirmed -- [time-admin] We need a GUI to enable/disable utc https://launchpad.net/bugs/53132 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
