It works now. Previously I haven't get the latest ubuntu package because of the delay between official site and mirrors. After upgrade to the latest version of gtk+ from ubuntu official repo, it's fixed. That debian patch seems to fix another issue; however, it's related to this one, so both of them are fixed. Thanks. [Bug 62894] Re: Strange behavior while moving maximized window (xinerama)
Hi Sebastien, I've looked into the source code of metacity and could find the crucial lines. I've atteched a diff. This is my very first patch, so please forgive me if there's anything wrong with it. The problem did not only occur when dragging horizontally starting on the right monitor without "shaking loose" the windows first. It also occurs when first "shaking loose", then moving to the left and reattaching with the cursor on the left monitor but with the window- center on the right monitor. Metacity first sets the coordinates (window->saved_rect) to the top left corner of the monitor and unmaximizes the grabbed window. Then, it is maximizes it again. At this point window->user_rect is used as reference to which xinerama workspace the window belongs. Therefore, the window is maximized on the wrong monitor. When dragging the window further the procedure is repeated: restoring the window to the left monitor top left and immediately maximizing to the wrong monitor yielding the weird window "jumping". The patch is a two-liner: The window->save_rect coordinates are also written to window->user_rect which is legitimate since it is a user requested moving operation. With that the window is maximized to the correct xinerama workspace. What are the right steps to fix the bug upstream, too? ** Attachment added: "Patch fixing strange behaviour when moving maximized windows" http://librarian.launchpad.net/4565558/007_moving_maximized_windows.patch -- Strange behavior while moving maximized window (xinerama) https://launchpad.net/bugs/62894 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This bug had not been an issue for me in Dapper, but has popped up in Edgy. At issue is a connection to a courier imap server using TLS authentication. Courier is running on Debian Stable (Sarge), and is up to date. The IMAP server certificate is of the self-signed lazy "let courier set it up" variety. [Bug 63107] Re: Current gtk+ has a critical bug crashing apps, please upgrade gtk+.
there is no need to be worried, we still have several weeks to fix bugs and regression like that crasher are usually fixed quickly. Your bug is not really optimal for several reason: - the subject doesn't describe the bug clearly - the description mentions there is a bug without any clear description of what the bug does and how to get it happening - why are the "*" to "*last night*" useful for? Pointing that we are some hours late on CVS? Do you know any distribution shipping non-tarballs version? If that's to point to maintainer they are slow to do their job that's probably not the case and there is no need to force on that point - you ask "Please upgrade gtk+ to the latest version" where the package is the uptodate version, there is no new version to upgrade to We appreciate your enthousiast to try getting that issue fixed though. Maybe you can think about that next time you open a bug to make it easier to deal with by the maintainers. Ubuntu gets a lot of bug and having to ask several questions to understand what your issue is makes the job non-optimal for people working on it. Anyway the bug should be fixed now, let we know if it works for you -- Current gtk+ has a critical bug crashing apps, please upgrade gtk+. https://launchpad.net/bugs/63107 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I like to map Meta to the windows keys, so that I can bind Meta+ to shortcuts that use the key. [Bug 63208] Re: Patches For Compiz/Beryl Compatibility
The above patch fixes the above checkbox to work with compiz... from within the patch itself: "There's no _NET_WM_ACTION_ABOVE hint so always add it if window manager claims to support_NET_WM_STATE_ABOVE" The viewport patch gives libwnck support for viewports which are used by compiz/beryl instead of workspaces, this is an fdo standard. So, we need to add viewports support to libwnck to replace workspaces if we use compiz/beryl. If not, there is no possibility/entry in the menu to change viewport/workspace. The move patch is needed to have the viewport support patch, they work together. The apperance patch is only for eyecandy, it adds an apperance entry in the menu that lets the users choose the opacity/britghness/saturation of the window, as well as providing a simple way to reset all those values. The french patch simply updates the french translation (one of the patch authors was french). Note there are 2 different backends of gtk file chooser. One is gtk+, the other is gnome-vfs. This can be set via gconf-editor. I'm not sure which one ubuntu uses, and I have no idea which one is corrupted. Please contact gtk+ developers for further info. [Bug 63087] Re: Menu bar won't start up.
OK. Here goes. I have an x86 (celeron) based PC that had been running ubuntu 6.06. I upgraded online and reset the system. Now, whenever I log in, I have my background, whatever icons I had, but the toolbars on the top and bottom of the screen are blank. This happens when I log in to the Xgl session (my default) or GNOME. KDE seems to work just fine. I did not have this problem runnng the LiveCD of 6.10 beta, so I'm guessing the app that runs the menu is somehow messed up .. ? Advance thanks for your help. [Bug 63191] File dialog crash in Edgy (fix upstream)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome I encountered this problem while in gThumb. Attach camera, choose import, drop down the list of filesystems and the application crashes. I used bug buddy, it went to gnome, where they marked the report as a duplicate of this one: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358405 And then marked it resolved, saying the fix is in CVS, here: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gtk+/gtk/gtkfilechooserbutton.c?r1=1.58&r2=1.59 ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- File dialog crash in Edgy (fix upstream) https://launchpad.net/bugs/63191 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 63116] Re: when doing a file copy nautilus should provide noclobber as a button
Use Case If a directory had files foo1, foo3 fooN+1 but no foo2, foo4 foo5. (Just to make the example work better, assume all files are big enough to call for 20 seconds copying time, and it will cost you several minutes to restore them all. Jane happens to know all the files she wants are on filesystem /bar, knows that some files are missing but not which actual files. So Jane can "cp /bar/* .", this is far from optimal, as this will this will overwrite all files in the location where the missing foo lives. So Jane has the setting in .bashrc, "set -o noclobber". noclobber will prevent any overwriting of files that actually exist on the system. Only howto I can find that makes it easy to read: http://www.linux.com/guides/abs-guide/options.shtml -- when doing a file copy nautilus should provide noclobber as a button https://launchpad.net/bugs/63116 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 63087] Re: Menu bar won't start up.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, we are not able to fix and find the bug because your description of the bug didn't have enough information in it. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively", http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. ** Changed in: Ubuntu Sourcepackagename: None => gnome-desktop Status: Unconfirmed => Needs Info -- Menu bar won't start up. https://launchpad.net/bugs/63087 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
