[Bug 34247] Re: Trash always empty.

2006-10-14 Thread seguso

This might be an important hint.

I have been able to reproduce the bug as follows.

Install edgy. Choose american english in the installation. Use edgy
normally for a few days. Delete a file from a partition other than /, so
that a folder .Trash-username is created on that partition. Let's call
that partition P.

Then, install language support (system - administration). Install
italian language support. Log out and, in gdm, change the language to
italian before loggin in. When asked if this should be your default
language, choose yes.

Now that you are logged in with the italian language, go to the
partition which we called P, and delete a file with nautilus. Then, with
nautilus, enter the trashcan (menu - go - trash, which in italian is
Menu - Vai - Cestino). You will notice the trashcan looks empty,
instead of containing the deleted file. Now, with nautilus, show hidden
files and navigate to the .Trash-username folder. The deleted file does
appear there.

So the trashcan bug might be related to localization in some way.

[Bug 66028] Re: double click desktop calendar opens wrong day in evo

2006-10-14 Thread Daniel Robitaille
I have a similar problem in Dapper, but it is reversed: if I double-
click on a day in the applet-calendar, I get the PREVIOUS day in
evolution. Single click only show that day inside the applet.

But that's in Dapper. Is Edgy, it works fine. I'm in the
America/Vancouver time zone.

[Bug 60527] Re: xchat-gnome /me misbehaviour

2006-10-14 Thread Martin Bergner
Oh, to make that clear: This is indeed fixed with the HEAD version, but
the de.po file is supposed to be shipped by language-pack-gnome-de, and
so I don't understand why it was not shipped in the latest update.
Replacing the de.po file with the one from the xchat-gnome source
package makes the problem go away.

[Bug 65989] [Edgy] gstreamer0.10-plugins missing

2006-10-14 Thread AgenT
Public bug reported:

For gstreamer0.8, there is a meta-package called gstreamer0.8-plugins.
This package will ensure that all GStreamer plugins are installed.
This is missing in gstreamer0.10.

Also, there should be a meta-package that will install all plugins
regardless of the version of gstreamer currently running.

It should be created in the same way as with the linux kernel, where
there are two levels of metapackages.

EXAMPLE (using kernel; mp=metapackage):
linux-386 (mp) : installs newest linux-image-386 (mp).
linux-image-386 (mp) : installs newest 386 kernel package

EXAMPLE (using gstreamer : assuming newest is 0.10):
gstreamer-plugins (mp) : installs gstreamer0.10-plugins (mp)
gstreamer0.10-plugins (mp) : installs all 0.10 plugins

When gstreamer0.12 is out, gstreamer-plugins would install
gstreamer0.12-plugins, etc.

[Bug 65971] Gnome 2.16 crashes after loading some apps

2006-10-14 Thread Aimeri Baddouh
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I have a dell dimension xps pro 200n, with processor p266 and 128 mbs of memory.
I installed ubuntu breazy and updated to dapper without any problems.
Everything worked like a charm. When I upgraded to edgy, everything seemed to
look fine but when you try to open apps like firefox, update mngr, evolution or
anyother app that requires more memory the screen just turn black for a few
seconds and then I'm back to gdm. The same doesn't happens with kubuntu edgy.
I don't know how to get any error log cuz it just goes back to gdm without
showing any error message.

Thanks for the help.

[Bug 51473] Waste basket appears full, when empty.

2006-10-14 Thread chris_andrew
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Hope this hasn't been reported , before. I have just noticed that the
wastebasket icon in my 'system tray' appears to be full, when Nautilus
indicates that files don't exist in that directory.

I am using Dapper on x86 arch.

(Linux aslan 2.6.15-25-386 #1 PREEMPT Wed Jun 14 11:25:49 UTC 2006 i686

I hope this helps.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers,

[Bug 45363] Ubuntu Dapper Splash Screen doubled (Ubuntu-slick.png)

2006-10-14 Thread Zer0
Public bug reported:

I have updated Ubuntu few days ago, and after this it started to give me
some troubles. The cdrom icon was on the down tray, disappeared and the
splash screen with the Ubuntu's logo is doubled, I mean one over the
other (so they are 2 at place than 1). I would send you a pict I made to
show what happens bt I don't know where and how. Anyway: is it possible
to fix the problem? I already have tried to find a solution in the
italian forum (I write from Italy) but till today no answer came here so
I decided to ask to you. Can you help me?

[Bug 51662] Re: Runaway leak in composer

2006-10-14 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
I have just had this happen to me in Edgy. I just so happen to run my
system in leave a core dump behind mode and in desperation I killed
evolution with a SIGSEV, leaving a core dump 956M behind and around 200M
of free space left on the disk. Apport then started up and proceeded to
chew up the rest of the free disk space before I manually killed it
off...

[Bug 55566] Re: The greeter application appears to be crashing with Enable accessible login

2006-10-14 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
Accessible login has not been properly tested on Ubuntu, and it seems to
be a topic that has gone a bit stale upstream in gnome as well.

There are instructions on getting it working here:
http://www.gnome.org/learn/access-guide/latest/sysadmin-27.html but they
are far from user friendly and possibly out of date. Turning on
accessible login by default was discussed at the gnome Boston summit and
we have a spec for Edgy+1 on it as well:

[Bug 51662] Re: Runaway leak in composer

2006-10-14 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
I am going to have to delete the core soon because it is taking up so
much space so if there's anything more that needs to be done with it let
me know. This problem occurred while I was typing a mail in the
evolution mail compose. I had used the right mouse button to correct
some mistakes and was deleting and retyping some text when the tale tale
sign of slowness had me racing off to virtual terminal one so I could
kill evolution off before it ate all the memory.

[Bug 66068] New iPod nano recognized as via raid member

2006-10-14 Thread Soren Hansen
Public bug reported:

Due to Apple's interesting way of initializing the storage on their new
iPod Nano series, the vfat partition is detected as a Via RAID volume,
which clearly is not right.. This in turn means that nothing happens
when plugging it in, since gnome-volume-manager won't touch raid
members.

The attached patch adds an extra checksum check to the detection code
and hence fixes the issue.

On the more constructive side of things, I got the source code for the

src/network/connection.c ar commented out with a FIXME affixed
prominently for no apparent reason, but was unable to. If someone can

[Bug 66124] gnome-settings-daemon crashes

2006-10-14 Thread Nick S
Public bug reported:

On login, gnome-settings-daemon fails to start, with the message
restarted too many times. Trying to run from the terminal turns it,
and only it, high-contrast (I assume I accidentally set that theme at
some point) until I end it manually, or it segfaults. Due to this, I
assume, the volume + and - keys have stopped working and the theme is
incorrect.

[Bug 66127] GDM sets to gnome defaults rather than Edgys

2006-10-14 Thread Stephen McClain
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When running edgy testing, I've been getting odd behavior from GDM. The
system will seemingly boot fine, then when I should be seeing a ubuntu
branded GDM, i see the gnome flowers. When I try to log in after that, I
get a blank blue screen rather than a gnome session. The only way I seem
to be able to get around this is by running a dpkg-reconfigure of gdm.

[Bug 66137] post-removal/install scripts keep failing

2006-10-14 Thread Karol Krizka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Hello,
I'm trying to switch from ubuntu to kubuntu on a new install. I managed to
install kubuntu, but when remiving the left over ubuntu packages I get errors.
For example I start with gnome-session, dosn't matter if I try this through
aptitude purge, aptitude remove or dpkg -r (with and without --force-all) I
keep getting the following error:

Removing gnome-session ...
dpkg: error processing gnome-session (--remove):
subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 gnome-session

If I try to reinstall it I get the same error, except that post-install
script failed.

I had this problem before, which is the reason why I chose to reinstall
my edgy eft install, thinking it will fix it. But seems like not.
Interestingly those errors started on this new install after I run a
dist-upgrade, so maybe some update broke dpkg? I checked dpkg's
changelog, but the october 4th update had only adding newlines to error
messages, some chagnes to description format and something about
permissions? Could the last change cause this problem?

[Bug 45122] Re: hang on login after gnome-session has left a socket in /tmp/.ICE-unix

2006-10-14 Thread Brian Brunswick
Just got around to trying to reproduce this one again. With an uptodate
dapper, it seems harder to get than it used to be.

But I managed to get it, though only using ctrl-alt-backspace. (I've
seen it without that before)

A gnome session backtrace indeed looks quite suggestive - its stuck in a
nested event handler inside gnome_accessibility_module_shutdown.
