[Bug 34247] Re: Trash always empty.
This might be an important hint. I have been able to reproduce the bug as follows. Install edgy. Choose american english in the installation. Use edgy normally for a few days. Delete a file from a partition other than /, so that a folder .Trash-username is created on that partition. Let's call that partition P. Then, install language support (system - administration). Install italian language support. Log out and, in gdm, change the language to italian before loggin in. When asked if this should be your default language, choose yes. Now that you are logged in with the italian language, go to the partition which we called P, and delete a file with nautilus. Then, with nautilus, enter the trashcan (menu - go - trash, which in italian is Menu - Vai - Cestino). You will notice the trashcan looks empty, instead of containing the deleted file. Now, with nautilus, show hidden files and navigate to the .Trash-username folder. The deleted file does appear there. So the trashcan bug might be related to localization in some way. -- Trash always empty. https://launchpad.net/bugs/34247 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I have a similar problem in Dapper, but it is reversed: if I double- click on a day in the applet-calendar, I get the PREVIOUS day in evolution. Single click only show that day inside the applet. Oh, to make that clear: This is indeed fixed with the HEAD version, but the de.po file is supposed to be shipped by language-pack-gnome-de, and so I don't understand why it was not shipped in the latest update. [Bug 65989] [Edgy] gstreamer0.10-plugins missing
Public bug reported: For gstreamer0.8, there is a meta-package called gstreamer0.8-plugins. This package will ensure that all GStreamer plugins are installed. This is missing in gstreamer0.10. Also, there should be a meta-package that will install all plugins regardless of the version of gstreamer currently running. It should be created in the same way as with the linux kernel, where there are two levels of metapackages. EXAMPLE (using kernel; mp=metapackage): linux-386 (mp) : installs newest linux-image-386 (mp). linux-image-386 (mp) : installs newest 386 kernel package EXAMPLE (using gstreamer : assuming newest is 0.10): gstreamer-plugins (mp) : installs gstreamer0.10-plugins (mp) gstreamer0.10-plugins (mp) : installs all 0.10 plugins When gstreamer0.12 is out, gstreamer-plugins would install gstreamer0.12-plugins, etc. ** Affects: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] gstreamer0.10-plugins missing https://launchpad.net/bugs/65989 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Due to Apple's interesting way of initializing the storage on their new iPod Nano series, the vfat partition is detected as a Via RAID volume, which clearly is not right.. This in turn means that nothing happens when plugging it in, since gnome-volume-manager won't touch raid members. I had this problem before, which is the reason why I chose to reinstall my edgy eft install, thinking it will fix it. But seems like not. Interestingly those errors started on this new install after I run a dist-upgrade, so maybe some update broke dpkg? I checked dpkg's changelog, but the october 4th update had only adding newlines to error messages, some chagnes to description format and something about permissions? [Bug 66141] moved desktop icons are copied
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I'm using an up to date Edgy i386 with nautilus version 2.16.1-0ubuntu2. If I try to move an icon on the desktop, the default action is copy. If I press shift on the keyboard the icon is moved correctly. The default action for desktop icons should be move and not copy. It would appear, after reinstallation that the problem was newly installed USB hardware (an optical mouse) that was causing the failure to boot, and nothing to do with the gparted. -- Installing Ubuntu breaks Windows XP installation and ability to reinstall [I-Media 1507] https://launchpad.net/bugs/55447 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Hello, I'm not sure if this bug is related to gdm or another package which is started when the user logs in, but the problem is: User enters login and password and logs in. [Bug 45122] Re: hang on login after gnome-session has left a socket in /tmp/.ICE-unix
Just got around to trying to reproduce this one again. With an uptodate dapper, it seems harder to get than it used to be. But I managed to get it, though only using ctrl-alt-backspace. (I've seen it without that before) A gnome session backtrace indeed looks quite suggestive - its stuck in a nested event handler inside gnome_accessibility_module_shutdown.
