Thank you for your bug. Assuming that you copied that file on a vfat
device (vfat doesn't support file over 4G) that's a duplicate of bug
#70535. Marking as duplicate, feel free to reopen if you are not using a
limited filesystem

[Bug 73564] [shares-admin] Sharing a folder does not create SMB account

2006-11-28 Thread Onno Benschop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

Setting up a shared folder, using SMB, does not actually create the
Samba user, requiring the user to run the following command before
access is possible:

  sudo smbpasswd -a `whoami`

The symptom on a WinNT host is that it continues to prompt for a password.

I strongly suspect that a desktop user would expect that the SMB account
is the same as their login account, even though the two are separate,
suggesting that the username and password should be synchronised.

It is possible that this bug report needs to be assigned to samba, but I
hesitate to do that because it is the GUI that is hiding (and missing)
the functionality.

[Bug 61728] Re: [disks-admin] need to be rewritten with the new API and using hal

2006-11-28 Thread Frederik Elwert
There is at lease one more important usecase for disks-admin: When using
the Desktop-CD as a rescue system, disks have manually to be mounted if
you want to work with them from the live system.

Besides that, disks-admin had an informational value: It gave on
overview about a disks partitions, their size and free space.

I don't know about its technical background, but could pysdm serve as a
basis for a successor? It is currently in universe, but Ubuntu certainly
needs something in main that gets installed by default.

[Bug 73585] [PATCH] System Tab in gnome-system-monitor

2006-11-28 Thread joelbryan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

I get this patch from Novell, and merge it with current ubuntu edgy
versions.

The System Tab contains the distribution name, hardware, memory, and
disk free status.

I think it's great if this is implemented, since, displaying some simple
information to a user is a big help.

[Bug 73412] Re: changing theme when gnome-cd interface is not displayed makes it crash

2006-11-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
I've forwarded that upstream:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=380124

** Summary changed:

- Gnome-CD segfaults, insists on trying to access nonexistent /dev/hdd
+ changing theme when gnome-cd interface is not displayed makes it crash

** Description changed:

- When I go to play an audio CD, gnome-cd brings up a dialog:
+ * change /apps/gnome-cd/device to a device which is not a CD drive
+ * start gnome-cd
+ * click on Set device
+ * pick a theme

- The CD player is unable to run correctly.
-
- Press 'Details' for more details on reasons for the failure.
-
- Press 'Set device' to go to a dialog where you can set the device, or
- press 'Quit' to quit the CD player.
-
- Pressing 'Set device' takes me to a dialog with only one choice, my
- combination CD/DVD drive (on /dev/hdc). Selecting that device has no
- effect. Attempting to set a theme segfaults the player. (The theme
- selected exists on the machine.) Attempting to set the device manually
- by editing $HOME/.gconf/apps/gnome-cd/%gconf.xml has no effect; gnome-cd
- still insists on looking for the CD player at /dev/hdd. I was unable to
- find where gnome-cd was getting this default from through strace.
-
- It seems like it would make more sense to have whatever default gnome-cd
- is trying to read point to a symbolic link (e.g. /dev/cdrom) instead of
- a hard-coded path (e.g. /dev/hdd).
+ gnome-cd crashes then

Thank you for your work on that. That feature is already has been
integrated and is already part of feisty though:

 New in 2.17.2 - 5 november 2006
* This is the first 2.17.x release.
* New lsof feature. Temporarily requires pcre, see #367827.
* New SysInfo tab from OpenSuse. Artwork by Baptiste Mille-Mathias.
...

The change will not be backported to edgy, we backport fixes only and
not new features to stable versions. Marking the bug as fixed since

[Bug 73586] nautilus fails in sudo mode

2006-11-28 Thread Martin G Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

After upgrading Dapper to Edgy, invoking nautilus using the command
gksudo nautilus will allow some browsing, but after a short time, the
screen will lock. Copying and pasting files may work once or twice, but
will also fail quickly with a locked screen requiring a force quit of
nautilus. Running Nautilus as normal user is not affected. Other
running programs are not affected. This was not a problem in Dapper.

[Bug 72318] Re: Doesn't update conference server

2006-11-28 Thread Sven Herzberg
Well it's quite easy. You need to have two Jabber accounts having
different default conference servers: jabber.org and google talk both
use conference.jabber.org, but you can try jabber.belnet.be (they seem
to have their own conference server).

The you do this:
1. Open the Buddy List Window
2. Main Menu: Click on Buddies - Enter Chat
3. Select one of your jabber accounts
4. Take a look at the entered conference server
5. Select the other Jabber account
6. The conference server is still the same
7. Select an ICQ/IRC/etc. Account and the second jabber account again
8. You see the expected server

Re: [Bug 66068] Re: New iPod nano recognized as via raid member

On Tue, Nov 28, 2006 at 03:00:41PM -, anthony baxter wrote:

Your dmesg output does not in itself suggest anything wrong. The iPod
has two partitions. sdc1 holds the iPod's operating system or firmware
while sdc2 is the partition that holds your music. The errors in your
dmesg output simply tells that something has tried to mount sdc1 which
often means that all the different file system drivers will be tried in
sequence. None of the will succeed, hence the errors.

However, this does not necessarily mean that you're not experiencing the
problem that I was seeing. I just can't tell from the dmesg output. Try
running lshal, locate the output block that relates to sdc2. If it says
via_raid_member somewhere in that block, you're seeing the same bug.

Cheers.

gaim defaults to the value sent by the jabber server (if any), and to
conference.jabber.org if none is sent by the server. Switching
accounts clears any changes made to the value of the previously viewed
account. I cannot detect any bug in this.

I suspect the problem here is that googlemail is not sending us a
conference server to default to.

[Bug 73619] Multimedia keys partially working

Public bug reported:

I have a Logitech MX 3000 wireless keyboard/mouse bundle. I have set
keyboard model to Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro in Keyboard

Preference-keyboard shortcuts. It can read the XF86Back,
XF86AudioMedia, XF86AudioMute, XF86AudioNext, XF86AudioPrev,
XF86AudioStop, XF86AudioMail, and XF86VendorHome keys. 8 keys for a
total of... more than 28 keys ! And nothing happens when I try to raise

Evolution stuff was synchronized first with no problems. During the backup
portion, the process stalled, and eventually the status window simply vanished.

No BugBuddy, no kernel messages, no meaningful log data reported
anywhere.

I disabled all the conduits except Backup, and tried another sync.
Things started fine, but again the backup simply stopped and the status
window vanished. It stalled at a different point in the process than
the first time.

I next started gpilotd manually in the console, with all the Evolution
conduits activated but the backup conduit disabled. This succeeded.

I re-configured the conduits to disable everything except Backup and
launched gpilotd manually in the console again. To my surprise, this
worked: a full backup was executed successfully.

So I put the applet back into my toolbar and ran yet another backup.
This worked successfully.

[Bug 73414] Re: notification area plugin is not working

2006-11-28 Thread Guillaume Desmottes
1) The notification plugin is only displayed when you receive a private
message. You can change that using gconf:
/apps/xchat/plugins/notification/level

2) That's a know bug.

[Bug 73369] Re: No indication of recording levels

2006-11-28 Thread peridot
It does, thanks. It would be nice if it were a standard feature of
gnome-sound-recorder (presumably one ought to be able to simply add it
as a bonobo component or whatever) since I can't imagine many situations
where a user won't want a vumeter when recording.

Re: [Bug 73433] Re: gpg password dialog does not get focus

2006-11-28 Thread Brijam
When I click on a piece of encrypted mail a dialog box pops up asking
for my passphrase. In whatever Evo version I was using under Dapper,
that dialog would have focus ie. I could just start typing directly
away and didn't have to push the mouse pointer over and click on the
box.

I'm using Kubuntu so KDE is my wm. I did the install from scratch
(formatting /) but I then copied over the entire .evolution directory
into my new home dir. I used Automatix2 to install the binary Nvidia
drivers and some other apps.
