[Bug 82515] Re: Evolution uses weak encryption for SSL/TLS

2007-01-31 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Sorry for forgetting to add the upstream bugid.
As hggdh's ssldump shows, Evolution uses weak ciphers by it's own choice.
I guess the upstream-reply is going to be "we do this for compatibility", but I
don't see a single cipher that could be considered strong. Neither Blowfish nor
Twofish or AES, this is really bad.

[Bug 77460] Re: "Translate This Application" in Firefox mistaken for translating the Web page

2007-01-31 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Daniel, that's because you're thinking like a developer. ;-) "Report
Broken Web Site…" applies to the Web page you're on. "Report Web
Forgery…" applies to the Web page you're on. So it's quite
understandable that the launchpad-integration items between them will
apply to the Web page you're on ... but then they don't. You could
improve this a little bit by fixing the position of the menu items. But
still, the idea of contributing to the choice of words of the buttons
and menus (!) in a program you're already using (!!) is so unusual that
I don't think you can explain it in a menu item.

One way to improve this would be to replace the existing launchpad-
integration items with a "Feedback and Contributions…" item, which can
more thoroughly describe the various ways you can help contribute to the
software.

[Bug 82471] Re: Add speaker configuration in Sound Properties

2007-01-31 Thread Young-Ho Cha
I have SBLive as audio device, and 4 channel speaker(output to Front
left, Front right, Rear left, Rear right).

In default configuration, just Front left, and Front right output is
working,

But after change output plugin pipeline to "alsasink device=surround40",
all speaker output is working.

See http://alsa.opensrc.org/SurroundSound FYI.

And if speaker type is digital (exactly, sound card is connected to
external digital amp with spdif), It need to resample audio sampling
rate. Most of digital output support 48000Hz only.

And it need to change output plugin pipeline to "alsasink device=spdif".

See http://alsa.opensrc.org/DigitalOut FYI.

[Bug 82397] Re: Use a more sensible message for "unknown" in permission tab.

2007-01-31 Thread joelbryan
For example, SELinux is not installed by default, the user will have to
install it, and enable it at boot-time configuration, so the user will
see the SELinux Context field to contain a valid selinux information,
but not in the case of Last Changed files, which will still display
"unknown" if the user haven't changed any permissions yet. I think the
"unknown" message is inconsistent and misleading the user to think it's
something else have to be installed just like the selinux information.

I think the approach is to change the unknown message to "No user
permissions had been defined" or better for both SELinux Context: and
Last Changed: labels.

Re: [Bug 78864] Re: Rhythmbox downloads the wrong lyrics [edgy]

2007-01-31 Thread discord
Ok let me restate the problem. Rythmbox does not download the
appropriate lyrics for the songs that I am playing. This is because
the database it uses for the song does not contain the music.
Therefore it displayed something else (closest match maybe) Anyways
the cd I was playing was called common market. I am not sure this is a
bug or not but since it does show the improper lyrics maybe it is. A
feedback system for the lyrics might be effective.

[Bug 82397] Re: Use a more sensible message for "unknown" in permission tab.

2007-01-31 Thread joelbryan
It's hard to know what the "unknown" message is pertaining to,
a user will think the other way when they saw a word "unknown" on their files,
it means that it is an indication that some features are not enabled and some
packages are needed to be installed to enable that feature to display those
information correctly. It might also mean that the program doesn't know how to

"Unable to mount the selected floppy drive"

'more details' tells me

mount: /dev/ is not a block device

The command sudo mount /dev/fd0 /media/floppy0/
mounts the disk and it shows up as 'floppy0' in the places menu

There is also a 'Floppy Drive' entry in the places menu that seems to
work ok

[Bug 82322] Re: Arabic encoding not included

I can not tell you if it appears in other applications since it is only

fine.

[Bug 44962] Re: Laptop dims on startup even on AC

2007-01-31 Thread Mathieu Bérard
Hi,
I am the new de-facto maintainer of the "omnibook" kernel module
I confirm that the number of brightness levels can the 8 or 11 depending on the
laptop model.
Old (before august 2006) versions of the module always assumed it was 11.
This issue is fixed in svn as max level is:
-printed in /proc/omnibook/lcd (ex: 'LCD brightness: 5 (max value: 7)' )
-exported to the backlight class device interface for access via sysfs
HAL needs either to use the sysfs interface or to take into account the max
level exported in the /proc file.
However due to lack of hardware documentation I still need to know what is the
actual max brightness level for each supported laptop models.
Anybody who hit this bug should contact me so I can update the hardware
database of the module. Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion. The changes you are requesting require more
discussion, which should be done on an appropriate mailing list or
forum. http://www.ubuntu.com/community/forums/ might be a good start.

Having the context menu will just get in the way, you can dnd with
middle click if you want to do that. The behaviour is not hard to get,
dnd on your user directory move things, from other locations it will

[Bug 82504] Re: gnome-panel autohides inconsistently

2007-01-31 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
After a bit of playing with the panels I found at least one reproducible
case where the panel remains opened:

1) First set at least one panel to autohide. (I don't think it matters,
but mine has "hidden size" and "hide delay" set to zero.)

2) Start Firefox, and resize it's window to smaller than the screen.

3) With Firefox having the focus, make the panel unhide by sliding the
mouse over it. (Don't click it!) Keep the cursor there so the panel
stays unhidden.

4) Press F11 on your keyboard. This will make Firefox go in full-screen
mode, which means it goes above the panel. (Note that the panel is
always on top of normal windows.)

5) Move the mouse out of the (hidden) panel's surface (to the middle of
the screen, for instance). Keep it there.

6) Either (a) press F11 again to make Firefox a window or (b) press Alt-
Tab to switch to another (not-fullscreen) window. (This will make
Firefox loose its "on top" status.)

Result: Now the panel is visible, but the mouse is not on it.

Expected result: The panel should have hidden itself at step (4) or at
step (5) -- because the cursor is no longer on it.

[Bug 82504] Re: gnome-panel autohides inconsistently

2007-01-31 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
No, I don't have any text-entry applet on either panel.

About bug #45974 I doubt it's related: I did remove the default "menu"
applet (the one with the Applications/Locations/System menus) and
replaced it with the single-icon menu. However the same issue appears
for both panels.

bug #4873 seems to be about a sliding panel. Mine isn't sliding, it
hides "towards its edge" rather than "to the side". (It doesn't have the
arrows either.)

Do you use a different application to open .c and .css files? That works

[Bug 82515] Re: Evolution uses weak encryption for SSL/TLS

2007-01-31 Thread hggdh
An additional comment on this: I would really like to be able to select
a series of ciphersuites to be used. I guess this would be an advanced
option, but would still allow me to at least to deselect those
ciphersuites I really do not want to use -- for example, the *EXPORT*
ones.

Of course, doing that also depends on what the server accepts, and how
the server selects from the list.

[Bug 82539] gedit doesn't close files (and blocks CDROM eject)

2007-01-31 Thread psl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Ubuntu 6.10, x86, gedit 2.16.1

gedit doesn't close binary files properly. I tried to open (drag and
drop) files from mounted CDROM in gedit. gedit warned me that it cannot
detect character encoding, it offered some character sets. I selected
CANCEL. Latter I found that file is still open in gedit when I was
unable to umount CDROM. I used gedit to check files on CDROM, I was
looking for some text files to read, I was not interested in binary
files.

$ lsof /dev/cdrw
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
gedit 29196 oem 16r REG 22,64 10648 1871 /media/cdrom1/isolinux.bin
gedit 29196 oem 17r REG 22,64 2048 1863 /media/cdrom1/boot.cat
gedit 29196 oem 18r REG 22,64 10648 1871 /media/cdrom1/isolinux.bin

$ ps aux | grep 29196 | grep -v grep
oem 29196 0.1 1.5 66404 23696 ?S20:20 0:04 gedit

Steps to replicate:
1) open some regular text in gedit; this step is needed to have gedit copy up
and running
2) put CDROM with some Linux to your CDROM
3) Ubuntu should mount CDROM
4) start new copy of gedit from menu, we will use this new gedit for our demo
5) open CDROM folder and 'drag and drop' some binary file to gedit
6) gedit should display message that it "cannot detect character encoding"
7) select CANCEL
8) I expect that gedit will release binary file after CANCEL but it seems that
file is still open. Test with lsof tool.

Confirmed. Evolution does not even propose EAS as a valid ciphersuite
when connecting. The following is the output of a ssldump from a
Evolution connection to GMAIL at port 995:

I do not know what ciphersuites are represented by 0xfeff and 0xfefe,
since they are (theoretically) reserved and private, respectively.

Public bug reported:

I do not use GNOME and this custom file has the following line:

When I am presented with my window manager ion(1) I can varify that this
has worked using ps(1).

The problem is that gnome-screensaver-command refuses to acknowledged
gnome-screensaver is running.

If I start a second invocation of gnome-screensaver by hand and then try
again everything works. If I kill of the second instance it still
ignores it.

I have attached the strace of both experiements...
