[Bug 59959] Re: [totem-xine] Fullscreen controls don't autohide

2007-02-09 Thread Scott Zawalski
I am running Feisty with the latest updated packages as of Feb 9th.

I am experiencing the same problem with or without twinview enabled.

I also tried changing the video.driver as explained above with
unfortunately the same results.

[Bug 76944] Re: Improve yelp index layout

2007-02-09 Thread Matthew East
Thanks for the upload. I'm attaching an updated patch to fix broken
links and add the remaining topics for the documentation.

At the moment we don't have a final Common Questions list, but I've
included one correct link and a placeholder to make it clear that this
will change. We can appeal to the community for ideas about which
questions to include.

This is a regression in the latest totem package.

I just downgraded from version: 2.17.91-0ubuntu1

to the last one I had before that in my archives: 2.17.5-0ubuntu5

and the problem disappeared.

I have a similar problem while trying to install onto a Core 2 Duo

udevd, then waiting for a while lets the installation get a bit further.
That's with the alternate install iso of 20070209.

[Bug 73440] Re: GDM does not accept Windows domain logins

2007-02-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
From upstream:

Note that GDM supports custom lists where you can specify additional combo
boxes or listviews showing a list of choices.

Refer to section 8.2.11 here:

  http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/docs/2.16/thememanual.html

Why don't you just use this in your theme and then in your PAM module refer to
the var/gdm/:0.GreeterInfo file to find out what the value was set to? This
seems like it would be a bit cleaner than hacking the GDM theme since GDM
already supports this kind of mechanism.

Perhaps you want to add a feature that forces the user to enter a value in the
userlist before the user is allowed to enter a username/password. An
enhancement like this would be generic and fairly easy to code. Probably just
add a tag element to specify that the username/password entry field will be
insensitive until the user picks a value in the custom list?

You might also want to enhance the custom lists so that rather than having to
hardcode the possible values in the theme, it gets the values by running a
script.

I think enhancing the existing custom list feature is probably a better and
more generic way to support the features you want rather than hardcoding
something specific for domains.

From a long-term perspective, adding to PAM the ability to support combo lists
would be a good idea and avoid the need to use custom lists, but adding such an
enhancement to PAM would probably take some time.

What do you think?

I think Custom Lists is the right approach to get the feature you want without
needing to hack the GUI more directly. So closing this bug report.

[Bug 69985] Re: Gaim randomly crashed

2007-02-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Those need crashes look different problems. Could people stop sending
crash files on random bugs when they don't know what they are doing? If
you are not sure open a new bug, somebody will point you to an another
if that's required. Closing the bug, the original submitter didn't reply
and it's a collection of random crashes now which is not useful

[Bug 58660] Re: orca menu item fails to launch

2007-02-09 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
This works fine for me in Feisty now. Upstream have made several
improvements in this area. Please re-open if you still see this on
Feisty.

One remaining quirk is that running 'orca --help' kills an existing Orca
session. I've asked on the list about this and will open a bug if it is
considered to be one (it's a side effect of the keep alive feature).

[Bug 62356] Re: gdm segfaults on ia64 with in ve_locale_from_utf8: address out of bounds

2007-02-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Comment from upstream:

Could you let me know what string is being passed into g_locale_from_utf8 as
argument 1? Perhaps there is something weird about that string? You may need
to rebuild with -g and attach a debugger to the process that is crashing.

I'm a bit suspicious that this is failing in g_locale_from_utf8. This may be
more likely a problem with glib and not GDM unless we are passing some weird
data into the function. If we are passing in weird data, it would be useful if
you could help identify where the string is coming from.

[Bug 84172] Please launch Orca with --disable=main-window

2007-02-09 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
Public bug reported:

In the 2.17.x series Orca upstream introduced an optional main window of
questionable usefulness. It's on by default, but can easily be switched
off with the '--disable=main-window' argument.

The less cluttered single preferences window would suit Ubuntu better.
We also launch Orca in a different way than stock gnome does in that we
have an option to start with the settings window from access-prefs, so
there is really no need for the extra window. The launch command from
the start button should be:

orca --disable=main-window

and from the settings button it should be:

orca --setup-gui --disable=main-window

John, even if it's not in universe/multiverse we could perhaps put the
deb on a server somewhere to download, or e could ask someone with an
existing third party repo like Luke or Sevaas to host it.

It could be great for a11y testing so we could give useful feedback to

2007-02-09 Thread Ralph Corderoy
I've just installed Ubuntu 6.10 and have hit this problem having used
System - Administration - Networking to configure the modem.
/etc/ppp/peers/ppp0 doesn't contain noauth, unlike a much older version

during `ifup ppp0' as described above. The vanilla 6.10 install has

[Bug 54975] Re: Aplay terminates Fonix DECtalk, sometimes Orca

2007-02-09 Thread Joanie
Hi Henrik!

Yup, Feisty is on this laptop. And I've been using eSpeak lately. I
hadn't tried the test in this bug with it, however. Turns out the
problem is slightly worse under those circumstances. With DECTalk, the
second play of the .wav file causes me to lose speech, but not sound.
With eSpeak running, I lose all sound and get this error:

ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:864:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:550: audio open error: Device or resource busy

I continue to get that error until I quit Orca.

On a related note, I just realized that I'm seeing similar
competition/resource grabbing in at least one other environment: Totem.
If I am using eSpeak with Orca and launch Totem (with no media files
open or playing), Orca will not speak the contents of anything (e.g. the
menu items). If I am using DECTalk, however, Orca will. Guess I should
file that. :-)

[Bug 84221] ubuntulooks causes massive memory use at startup for Firefox 3 trunk build

2007-02-09 Thread Martin Meyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks

See this bug at Mozilla:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=367509

There seems to be some issue with the ubuntulooks engine that causes
Firefox 3 trunk builds to show memory leak behavior when FF starts. When
I launch a Firefox trunk build all my ram gets consumed and then my swap
more slowly, then eventually all the memory usage drops off and Firefox
opens. The problem goes away completely when I change my theme to
clearlooks. Also, my performance in Firefox seem MUCH better with
clearlooks than it did with ubuntulooks. The UI is much more responsive
and Google Maps scrolls faster.

There is a backtrace for the offending thread in the Mozilla bug but I
don't know how much it will help.
