[Bug 86551] Re: [totem-gstreamer] AV synchronization problems

2007-03-04 Thread Mika Fischer
Sorry for the delay!

It happens with all XVID videos I've tested. Do you happen to know
freely available videos in this format?

The problem persists with gst-launch-0.10 playbin, but there I also get
some output which may help in finding the casue of the problem:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ LANG=C gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file://$(pwd)/test.avi

Any idea how to further debug this problem?

BTW: vlc also has no such problems.

[Bug 89806] xchat-gnome segfaults connecting to new network

2007-03-04 Thread Evan Klitzke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

I can consistently make xchat-gnome on Feisty segfault. Upon starting
up, I have xchat-gnome automatically connect to Freenode. I added
irc.gnome.org to the list of IRC servers, and if I subsequently try to
connect to that network, xchat-gnome will immediately segfault. I have
tried connecting to a few other servers at random without this problem.
I am not sure how to get a backtrace (or if that is even possible --
there seem to be no debugging symbols compiled in), but if you give me
instructions I can produce one for you.

There are at least two other bugs relating to xchat-gnome segfaulting,
but I believe that this problem is unrelated to those bugs (and at least
one of them seems to have been fixed in Edgy already).

[Bug 24243] Re: System Monitor collapsed into a line

2007-03-04 Thread draimus
I'm using Edgy. I've had this happen twice though I can't discern what
the cause is. It does not occur very often at all.

When it occurs, adding or removing "Monitored Resources" does not jog it
into operation. The included image shows after I added all the possible
monitors (normally I just have CPU showing).

My panel is also very susceptible to Bug #44082. It's probably a
stretch but maybe they are related.

[Bug 89757] gnome-screensaver breaks mouse input in nxclient

2007-03-04 Thread geir
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

When gnome-screensaver is running (as a background process, not while
the screen is locked), movement of the mouse cursor isn't registered in
the NoMachine nxclient.

nxclient worked in edgy, but in feisty this problem occurs.

versions: gnome-screensaver 2.17.8
nxclient version 2.1.0-11

How to reproduce:

Use nxclient to log into a server running nomachine nxserver, freenx or
2xterminalserver.
Left-click anywhere on the desktop of the remove machine. Release mouse button.
Move the mouse, try to click on an icon on the desktop of the remote machine.
You'll probably miss, since the movement of the mouse hasn't been registered
with the remote machine.

Now kill the gnome-screensaver process on the local machine, and
everything starts working as it should (e.g. mouse movements gets
registered with the remote machine).

there is no need to apoligize, edgy is stable for some months and that

I see. Thank you and I apologize.

I used the bug report because it said:

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that

that package should be filed.

I'll do my homework on it.

Thanks again.

[Bug 89739] Shutdown button missing when using "upstream session"

2007-03-04 Thread Soren Hauberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

After an upgrade to feisty I find myself without a shutdown button
because I'm enabling the upstream session gconf key.

If you enable "/apps/panel/global/upstream_session" in gconf you should
see the problem (the panel will need to be restarted). In edgy I would
have 3 buttons in the "System" menu for "log out" related things: "Lock
Screen", "Log out", and "Shutdown" (names translated from danish). In
feisty I find myself missing the "Shutdown" button.

Now I have to use the ubuntu logout/shutdown dialog, and I have to say
(sorry...) that it's not half as good as the upstream one :-(

[Bug 89732] File Roller doesn't extract without changing destination folder

2007-03-04 Thread hexion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

When extracting with file-roller, if you leave default destination (don't
browse any folder) and just press "extract" button, it won't do anything.
You have to at least change once the destination folder to be able to extract
any file.

Also, drag and drop doesn't work at all.

Steps to reproduce (first bug)
- Double click a compressed file.
- Select one folder/file
- Click "extract"
- In the new menu, click "extract". Nothing will happen
- Change to another folder (by default it extracts to $HOME directory)
- Change again to $HOME directory (the same place it was going to extract to at
first time)
- Click extract. Now it will work.

Steps to reproduce (drag&drop)
- Double click a compressed file.
- Select one folder/file
- Drag and drop it to the desktop. Nothing will happen

Correction in case the following is confusing:
After the directory has been regenerated, it finishes with an strace that looks
the same as the first one. The start-up screen says "looking for data files:
modules"

After the directory has been regenerated gimp starts fine and works fine
(as far as I can tell). After exiting gimp, when I attempt to execute
it again, I get the same problem as before and the strace looks the
same.

[Bug 87640] Re: "Add/Remove Applications" does not find Totem codecs

2007-03-04 Thread Duncan Lithgow
** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #414693
   http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=414693

** Also affects: totem (upstream) via
   http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=414693
   Importance: Unknown
   Status: Unknown

** Description changed:

- If Totem (2.17.92) is missing a codec, it gives a message like:
+ if a user goes to play an MPEG-2 with Totem (2.17.92) they will get the
+ message:

  ---
"The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer plugin
which is not installed."
  ---

- But if I search in 'Applications > Add/Remove Applications' for words
- and phrases from the Totem message, like "MPEG-2" or "MPEG-2 System
- Stream demuxer plugin" I get "There is no matching application
- available." Now I know this is not true because if I search for just
- "MPEG" I get what I'm looking for. So the problem here is that the
- search function is not finding the correct packages needed by Totem and
- suggested in the failure message.
+ On a freshly installed (Ubuntu) system if a user goes to play an MPEG-2
+ file they will get the message:

- I see two ways around this:
+ "The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer
+ plugin which is not installed."

- 1. 'Add/ Remove packages' creates specific links for keywords mentioned in
Totem, like 'MPEG-2'. This could be a fast way to get around the problem, but a
poor solution.
- 2. 'Add/ Remove packages' changes the summary text of the relevant packages
so they mention the keywords used by Totem. This seems to me like the best
option.
-
- Either way the developers of Totem, developers of 'Add/Remove
- applications' and Canonical should talk about a way of coordinating
- their efforts to avoid these kinds of problems.
-
- Could this regarded as a "collaboration" bug?
+ But the package required (gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly) does not mention
+ the word MPEG-2 in it's short description. It mentions MPEG2. So if you
+ try and search for using the text from the message you will not find the
+ right package.

[Bug 89602] Re: gimp crashes

2007-03-04 Thread Matthew Koyle
In an strace, before deleting the old .gimp-2.2 settings, the program
stops at this line:

15:34:55.559985 futex(0x84629a8, FUTEX_WAIT, 2, NULL

after that, the program opens properly. When I exit from that, the
strace has a bit of an error message:

15:39:42.984437 unlink("/home/matthew/.gimp-2.2/gimpswap.13810") = -1
ENOENT (No such file or directory)

If you want that entire strace I can add it; it is really quite large,
so I will wait to be asked for that one. After the directory has been
regenerated, it finishes with an strace that looks the same as the first
one. The start-up screen says "looking for data files: modules"

[Bug 89602] Re: gimp crashes

2007-03-04 Thread Matthew Koyle
http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/ddebs is not reponding right now so I
can't get the package at that site (I will try it later today/tomorrow).

I installed gimp-dbg and have attached what I got.

Error while reading shared library symbols:
Cannot find new threads: generic error

The first time I executed it, it opened normally. Then I closed it and
told it to run again and it had a similar (but not identical) crash to
the problem I reported originally.

Since it says there is an error with shared libraries, I am guessing
that one of the dependencies is incorrect on my system (I have not
upgraded everything to feisty-- just a few select items like gimp
because I wanted to assist with testing the ubuntustudio-graphics meta
package but did not want to install everything for feisty). Just
guessing, one of the dependencies for gimp in feisty might need a
version correction.

[Bug 87640] Re: "Add/Remove Applications" does not find Totem codecs

2007-03-04 Thread Duncan Lithgow
** Description changed:

If Totem (2.17.92) is missing a codec, it gives a message like:

- "The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer
- plugin which is not installed."
+ ---
+ "The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer plugin
which is not installed."
+ ---

- But if I search "Add/Remove Applications" (no 'about' available, Feisty
- Herd 4) for "MPEG-2" or "MPEG-2 System Stream demuxer plugin" I get
- "There is no matching application available." which we know is not true
- - so the problem is the search function not responding well to Totems
- message. (It should return "GStreamer ffmpeg video plugin" and others)
+ But if I search in 'Applications > Add/Remove Applications' for words
+ and phrases from the Totem message, like "MPEG-2" or "MPEG-2 System
+ Stream demuxer plugin" I get "There is no matching application
+ available." Now I know this is not true because if I search for just
+ "MPEG" I get what I'm looking for. So the problem here is that the
+ search function is not finding the correct packages needed by Totem and
+ suggested in the failure message.
+
+ I see two ways around this:
+
+ 1. 'Add/ Remove packages' creates specific links for keywords mentioned in
Totem, like 'MPEG-2'. This could be a fast way to get around the problem, but a
poor solution.
+ 2. 'Add/ Remove packages' changes the summary text of the relevant packages
so they mention the keywords used by Totem. This seems to me like the best
option.
+
+ Either way the developers of Totem, developers of 'Add/Remove
+ applications' and Canonical should talk about a way of coordinating
+ their efforts to avoid these kinds of problems.

Could this regarded as a "collaboration" bug?

[Bug 89709] Screensaver freezes on display in Ubuntu Herd 5

2007-03-04 Thread wpshooter
Public bug reported:

I have the screensaver set to run after 3 minutes of inactivity.

When I come back to my machine after about an hour or so, the
screensaver is frozen on the screen, i.e. not moving.

I believe that the Ubuntu session is still running and active because I
can hear hard disk activity from my folding-at-home running.

I can not get display back, so I have to hit reset button on computer to
restart the system.

I will do some more experimenting with it to see if I can narrow down
the problem.

Do you need any further information in order to explore problem.

Thanks.

[Bug 89696] Quitting evolution produces dbus_connection_unref warning in .xsession-errors

2007-03-04 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Description of the problem:
Whenever an evolution window is closed a dbus warning is logged in
.xsession-errors .

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start a gnome-terminal .
2. In the gnome-terminal type
tail -n 0 -f ~/.xsession-errors
3. Start evolution .
4. Press Ctrl-W to close the evolution Window .
5. Look at the gnome-terminal .

Ideally nothing but perhaps about 4 lines from evolution for basic debugging.

Actual results:

plugin: not enabled or we have already loaded one

the connection. This is a bug in an application. See dbus_connection_unref()
documentation for details.
Most likely, the application was supposed to call dbus_connection_close(),

[Bug 89691] gedit load too slow

2007-03-04 Thread hdante
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

In my system (Ubuntu Edgy x86, Athlon 64 3200+, 512 MB RAM, SATA HD)
gedit may take up to 10 seconds in some loads. I'd like to use it as a
replacement for nano, but this would require that it didn't take more
than 2~3 seconds worst case.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Load gedit early after boot, or after some time doing other things in the
system
2) gedits reads a lot of data from the disk and takes up to 10 seconds to load

What should have happened:
gedit should have loaded quickly, like nano does.

[Bug 84947] Re: Driver list is empty by default

2007-03-04 Thread Till Kamppeter
With the next Gutenprint package (now for testing on http://www.linux-
foundation.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/feisty/gutenprint/binary/) there will be
two PPDs per printer in a standard installation. One is marked
"(simple)" the other "(expert)". Both use Gutenprint and give the same
output quality. The user can have all options and fine adjustments with
the "(expert)" and less cluttered menues but still access to the full
functionality of his printer with the "(simple)" file. Between these two
there is not really a recommendation.

[Bug 39050] Re: gstreamer crashes due to BadAlloc response from xv

Is this not merely a problem with i810's offscreen allocation for XV?
See 'man i810'. I had this problem on my laptop with an 82855GM on
Dapper (or Edgy, I forget); totem used to crash when loaded with large
movies, or even without a movie due to the logo being too large, and
straining XV's memory allocation. Setting:

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that

Thank you for reporting this bug. But with the information you gave isn't there
much the developers can do to fix the problem. Could you please give some more
information? I can't reproduce the problem. Maybe these links can help you:

[Bug 88815] Re: Sluggish rendering since xorg 7.2 update

2007-03-04 Thread Conn
disturbedsaint,

Thanks, let me address your points:
1. That's right, nvidia-glx is installed on my system and so the nv driver
can't initialize GLX.
2. Ditto, see above.
3. This may be a symptom of the above too, so I don't know.

In light of this, I'm running the benchmarks again, this time using the
herd 5 livecd instead, and have copied xorg.conf from herd 4. I checked
the resulting logs and libvm86.so is still being loaded; it's because of
the new xorg build, I believe. I ran a quick test, "x11perf -umove" -
here's the results (herd 4 livecd vs herd 5 livecd):

514000.0 186000.0 ( 0.36) Moved unmapped window (4 kids)
503000.0 185000.0 ( 0.37) Moved unmapped window (16 kids)
496000.0 184000.0 ( 0.37) Moved unmapped window (25 kids)
485000.0 184000.0 ( 0.38) Moved unmapped window (50 kids)
472000.0 182000.0 ( 0.39) Moved unmapped window (75 kids)
465000.0 181000.0 ( 0.39) Moved unmapped window (100 kids)
452000.0 175000.0 ( 0.39) Moved unmapped window (200 kids)

As you can see, these results reflect my initial benchmarks on my
installed herd 5 system. I'm running the full set right now to be sure,
and if anything significantly changes I'll post them here.
