Just though I'd better mention that I wrote a quick tutorial on how to get around this bug on my Ubuntu-FS site a while ago. http://ubuntufs.wordpress.com/2006/06/08/trouble-with-your-microphone/ I keep a keen eye on the sites stats & this still seems to be one of the most read articles on the whole blog. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gaim When using Gaim for a few minutes, it closes without any aparent reason and with all it's conversation windows. I'm having the same problem, and it seems to happen just in Evince, so I'm not quite sure that's a matter of printing settings, as I haven't changed them from its defaults. I'm also attaching a file that shows a scan I've done of a page after being printed trough Evince. It just shows the upper-left part of it, the rest is not printed. [Bug 85766] I can still confirm this bug.
I suspected this had something to do with the fact that beagle uses all my CPU if I refrain from mouse moving for too long. If I move my mouse beagle stops instantaneous. Somehow beagle must get notified of mouse movements. I suspected that control of the mouse is not given off to newly launched applications. So I killed several processes until I got the culprit. It's gnome-screensaver. If I kill it mouse works again in Warsow. If I start it again, mouse isn't working anymore. Pretty obvious I think. :) In retrospect it's obvious that gnome-screensaver should stop beagle from beagling as it has to look for mouse movement anyway. So I'm pretty sure this is a bug. :) ** Changed in: control-center (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: control-center => gnome-screensaver -- mouse doesn't work in War§ow any more https://launchpad.net/bugs/85766 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 89959] gnome panel crash
Public bug reported: Suddenly, gnome crashed, and opened a bugreport. It did it about times. After that, I didn't have any panel anymore, so no access to applications or anything else. The only solution to shut down is to ctrl-alt-backspace and shut down form options. Guys at the forum suggested to delete the following files : .gconf .gconfd .gnome .gnome2 which I did by booting on my other distro and accessing the ubuntu home fodler from there. Now, once I restart on Ubuntu, I have an empty panel. If I try to add the main menu, I get back to the same problem. So for now, ubuntu is unusable. [Bug 89950] User's trash suddenly includes a copy of /var/run
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I had a weird thing happening that I cannot explain, I just can describe what I see. I am willing to investigate further if you can ask for more specific info. My computer was running Edgy as of this morning, but was upgraded to Feisty just now; the issue still persists as described below: During a vacation my computer was on, but just sat there for a few days. To my knowledge nobody touched it (and nobody was in the apartment I hope). Nothing special was running, just Gnome, NetworkManager, Evolution, Gaim, Firefox, and gtk-gnutella. Upon return I saw that my user's Trash icon was showing "full" and wanted to empty it. However, nothing happened; it stayed full. Figuring that there was a permission problem (known issue with being unable to delete root-owned files from user's Trash), I looked into the Trash and found that it included a complete set of the files and directories that live in /var/run. I have no clue why those files suddenly show up in the Trash. See the attached screenshot example. If I try to delete the files by rightclicking them inside the Trash, I get, e.g., "Error while deleting. "/var/run/acpid.socket" cannot be deleted because you do not have permissions to modify its parent folder." Given the situation, this is expected behavior since a user cannot delete from /var/run. If I carefully delete the files from /var/run, they disappear from the user's Trash too. If I "sudo touch /var/run/testfile", the file immediately shows up in the user's Trash. I have only 2 users on this machine, and therefore I have only 2 .Trash direcories: sudo find / -name ".Trash" /home/user1/.Trash /home/user2/.Trash But they don't contain the files: sudo ls -la /home/{user1,user2}/.Trash /home/user2/.Trash: total 8 drwx-- 2 user2 user1 4096 2006-11-04 18:26 . drwxr-xr-x 16 user2 user1 4096 2006-12-20 19:37 .. /home/user1/.Trash: total 12 drwx-- 2 user1 user1 8192 2007-03-05 20:48 . drwxr-xr-x 53 user1 user1 4096 2007-03-05 20:34 .. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- User's trash suddenly includes a copy of /var/run https://launchpad.net/bugs/89950 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
