[Bug 68707] Re: Import on camera dock event not firing

And i also get the following error sometimes: "An error occurred in the
io-library ('Bad parameters'): Could not find USB device (vendor 0x4a9,
product 0x311c). Make sure this device is connected to the computer."

I can import pics properly with dapper. These errors happened in edgy
only.

[Bug 68707] Re: Import on camera dock event not firing

2007-03-09 Thread donatello
Happens here too, with a Canon PowerShot SD600. How does manually
launching the import wizard happen? The way is to use the command gnome-
volume-manager-gthumb %h right? But after i choose the right model i get
"no images found" which is incorrect.

[Bug 91059] Panels flicker and crash when clock preference changed to unix time

2007-03-09 Thread Mark Sisley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm not entirely certain that the bug is in gnome-panel, but that is
where it likely lies. Steps to hopefully reproduce the error in Ubuntu
7.04 Herd 5:

1) Right click time in panel and select "Preferences"
2) Set time display mode to Unix Time.

Immediately after doing this, my only panel at the top of the screen
flickered and died. I killed x and relogged in to experience the same
initial flickering and eventual removal of the panel. Rebooted to again
experience the same problem.

[Bug 90925] hardware brightness keys on lenovo R60e are working "strange" in gnome

2007-03-09 Thread Pawel Ludwikow
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Feisty herd5. IBM/lenovo R60e. Kernel 2.6.20-9-generic

Problem: the hardware brightness keys (Fn+Home "brighter" & Fn+End
"dimmer") are working in most strange way: when either one is pressed
the display is made blank. The screen is restored after a few clicks
(Fn+Home takes longer to return to visible state than Fn+End). The gnome
brightness popup usually shows the correct brightness setting. The keys
are working ok in win xp pro and in virtual consoles.

Additionally the dropdown brightness applet doesn't work as expected:
clicking on the slidebar causes the display to cycle from brightest do
dimmest setting (or vice versa) in less than 1 second. It is very
difficult to set the intermediate brightness level using this slider.
The /proc/acpi/ibm interface however works flawlessly - allows to read
the brightness setting and to change it.

Re: [Bug 90383] Re: [apport] gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in _int_malloc()

2007-03-09 Thread Bill Hand
I will be more then happy to, however I'm not sure exactly how to go
about it... I assume I will need to 'kill' gnome-panel, which I can do
in the system monitor and then restart it with Valgrind? Won't killing
the gnome-panel make that hard to do? I'd like to know exactly how to
go about it, please, and what my indications will be. ( I do have
Valgrind installed and ready to go) I would think that I could set that
up in the startup script possibly too Please advise...

Thanx,

Bill

OK, I am going crazy today. Sorry for all the comments.
The bug is still open, and the dbus plugin is included in the main gaim package.
However, I cannot consistently reproduce this bug.
It seems be affected by the gnome-session, because it only happens when I

2007-03-09 Thread Mike Gratton
Public bug reported:

Scrolling in nvi one line at a time is broken in the feisty version of
gnome-terminal.

Normally, when the cursor is on the second to last last line of the
terminal and you move down by a line, the displayed file is scrolled up
by one line. Using vte from herd 5 onwards, it instead draws the next
line of the file in the last line of the terminal, overwriting the
status line and not scrolling the rest of the displayed file.

Downgrading libvte9 and libvte-common to the packages from edgy
(0.14.1-0ubuntu) fixed the problem. It doesn't seem to be nvi's fault
either as it works fine in an xterm.

[Bug 89524] Re: [apport] GNOME Terminal Unicode SIGSEGV

2007-03-09 Thread Michael Trausch
Arrgh. It would seem that Valgrind is not the thing that changed… it
seems that it is working now, so one of the updates fixed it.

I am going to keep this open for another few days and see if I run into
the problem again. For now, though, my hands hurt from beating against
the keyboard trying every combo I could think of. :-) I even wrote a
Python script to output tons of Unicode chars to make it crash, and it
didn’t. Probably has something to do with the 180 or so updates from
today and yesterday.

[Bug 88605] Re: gnome-panel crashes in _cairo_pen_find_active_cw_vertex_index() when opening menu

2007-03-09 Thread Mark Fenton
The icon theme is "eXperience", changing it back to the standard GNOME
theme does make the error go away. I've attatched the SVG file which I
think the shortcut is using (which seems to cause the same error with
Nautilus as the .desktop file). I'm afraid I'm not quite sure how to get
the other information they want - I'll have a go if they can explain a
bit further. Hope this all helps, and thanks again.

[Bug 74894] Re: NNTP posting should be auto-detected.

2007-03-09 Thread Michael Trausch
It is probably a mixture of both, actually; it is an inconsistency in
the user interface. When you have multiple e-mail accounts (for
example, I have an IMAP e-mail account and a POP3 email account) it
automatically starts composing new mail messages using the relevant
account, depending on what is selected. However, if you’ve got an NNTP
account selected, that behavior does not happen.

And, the “editable toolbar/menu” feature that GNOME applications are
supposed to adhere to… well, Evolution doesn’t honor that, and it
should. So there is no way for me to bind a key to the action of “Post
to the folder I am in,” would would be the second best option; the best
option, of course, would be for it to behave consistently: When I am in
my Gmail account, fire off e-mail that way. When I am in my college
account, fire off e-mail that way. When I am in my NNTP account, fire
off a post to the newsgroup that way. :-)

My comment about the priority is more of a global thing; it seems that
every project makes the quirks and inconsistencies a low priority. Of
course, if I knew how to fix these things myself, I would… at least, I
suppose, I know how to report them. That doesn’t really say that much,
though. :-/

[Bug 89909] slowdown caused by network-admin

2007-03-09 Thread gala.martin
Public bug reported:

I am testing feisty herd5. when I switched from "automatic DNS" to a
static IP configuration via network-admin, the system had a terrific
slowdown. This means like 2minutes to open a terminal on a P4. From
"top", both CPU and memory had very little load. I rebooted several
times, both connected (the net was working, only it took 2 min to open
the browser) and disconnected (wire off), but the system was terrific
slow (it took very long to open applications, even nautilus). I switched
to flwm interface, but it was the same. Finally I switched to "automatic
DNS" again, and now everything is ok. Weirdest behavior ever on my PC.
Hope that can help

[Bug 90267] Re: ntp starts before the network is up in feisty

2007-03-09 Thread hggdh
There is a comment in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=399905 about this issue, and it refers to an
upstream bug (https://ntp.isc.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=51) where it is
strongly recommended not to bounce ntpd on I/F status changes.

This is (probably) the reason why /etc/network/ifup.d/ntp is disabled by
default: there is a chance the clock will get wildly inaccurate, and the
"carefully maintained statistics" will be lost.

Per the comments on https://ntp.isc.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=772
upstream it seems that ntp, once it gives up on root, cannot change the
IP (which is correct behaviour, since port 123 is privileged). The fix
is either to run NTP as root, or to run Linux with capabilities (so that
the correct capability can be given to the 'ntp' userid). Anyway, the
fix is on 4.2.4, which has not yet been packaged by Debian.

So it seems there is no real solution right now.

Perhaps one option is not to install ntpd on machines that dynamically
and/or frequently change the IP address -- instead, use ntpdate. On the
other hand, ntpdate is less reliable (see 'man ntpdate' for example),
and it is recommended to be run every hour in order to minimise the
chance of large clock changes.

Still digging.

But the weird thing is, the new Network-manager icon on the
"Notification Area" that was installed with Fiesty does not detect my
network device, while if I add the Network-Monitor applet using "Add to
Panel" the applet works fine..

However, this may be the case since they seem to be different applets
("Notification Area" one is 'Network-Manager' and the Gnome-Applet's is
'Network Monitor').

Thanks,
Ben

[Bug 90998] [apport] gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_x11_window_set_user_time()

2007-03-09 Thread Timothy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I simply installed the updates on 9/03/2007, a reboot was required and this
happened
after rebooting... now I see untitled window in my taskbar and a small window
without
any close/maximize/minimize buttons or any other text. Gnome panel seems to
work beyond that.

[Bug 70850] [users-admin] show all users checkbox is gone and there is no way to view users with a UID of less than 1000

2007-03-09 Thread Mikele
Public bug reported:

The user-admin dialog in Edgy doesn't show the
"show all users" checkbox anymore, and only the users with UID > 1000 are shown.
I can see how this may be regarded as a "feature", simplifying the interface,
but in some cases may be quite annoying.

* test-case (my case): I'm adding a PC to a network with NFS shares; some users
over the network have UIDs < 1000, and I need these UIDs to be preserved for
NFS to work properly. When I change the pre-defined UIDs, those users are not
listed anymore, and I have to edit their properties via console.
* test-case 2: I'm just curious, or want to have a look to the complete list of
users in a graphical fashion. users-admin was a good tool for that, when it was
able to show all users.

**WORKAROUND:
sudo vi /etc/login.defs
change UID_MIN to 1

this is not very clean, but I guess that if one needs to change
automatically generated user-ids, he should also be able to take care
not to assign "reserved" userids to normal users.

[Bug 88943] Re: Ubuntulooks doesn't support colour schemes

2007-03-09 Thread Bruce Cowan
The GtkRC file attached above is very similar to the old ubuntulooks
colours, but the window border and the menu selection colours are darker
than they used to be.

2007-03-09 Thread Bruce Cowan
Actually, I didn't have the default colours on in that screenshot, the
only thing I notice that is different is the window border being a
garish orange colour as opposed to the old brown one.

Public bug reported:

Hi,

When I load up GAIM in fiesty herd 5, if an account is auto-login
enabled, it gets stuck on auto-login. I would have to disable the

Thanks,
Ben

[Bug 90934] [apport] nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance()

2007-03-09 Thread KRA
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This is a very odd problem. I have 4 nfs shares mounted in /media (all
are displayed on the desktop, and on the left side in nautilus) One of
those 4 nfs shares makes nautilus crash. This was not a problem before
when using Ubuntu 6.10. So 3 of them work fine, 1 makes nautilus crash
when opening the nfs share.

[Bug 90907] Re: nibbles AI can't handle level 15

2007-03-09 Thread gQuigs
It doesn't crash the game. It is a logic bug. The AI can't navigate through
level 15.
The purple worm (bottom of the screen), Gets spawned and 9/10 times runs
directly into a wall. AI needs to be a bit smarter.

Importance: Very very low.
