Happens here too, with a Canon PowerShot SD600. How does manually launching the import wizard happen? The way is to use the command gnome- volume-manager-gthumb %h right? [Bug 91059] Panels flicker and crash when clock preference changed to unix time
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I'm not entirely certain that the bug is in gnome-panel, but that is where it likely lies. [Bug 90925] hardware brightness keys on lenovo R60e are working "strange" in gnome
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Feisty herd5. IBM/lenovo R60e. Kernel 2.6.20-9-generic Problem: the hardware brightness keys (Fn+Home "brighter" & Fn+End "dimmer") are working in most strange way: when either one is pressed the display is made blank. The screen is restored after a few clicks (Fn+Home takes longer to return to visible state than Fn+End). The gnome brightness popup usually shows the correct brightness setting. The keys are working ok in win xp pro and in virtual consoles. Additionally the dropdown brightness applet doesn't work as expected: clicking on the slidebar causes the display to cycle from brightest do dimmest setting (or vice versa) in less than 1 second. It is very difficult to set the intermediate brightness level using this slider. The /proc/acpi/ibm interface however works flawlessly - allows to read the brightness setting and to change it. I will be more then happy to, however I'm not sure exactly how to go about it... I assume I will need to 'kill' gnome-panel, which I can do in the system monitor and then restart it with Valgrind? Won't killing the gnome-panel make that hard to do? I'd like to know exactly how to go about it, please, and what my indications will be. Normally, when the cursor is on the second to last last line of the terminal and you move down by a line, the displayed file is scrolled up by one line. [Bug 74894] Re: NNTP posting should be auto-detected.
It is probably a mixture of both, actually; it is an inconsistency in the user interface. When you have multiple e-mail accounts (for example, I have an IMAP e-mail account and a POP3 email account) it automatically starts composing new mail messages using the relevant account, depending on what is selected. However, if you’ve got an NNTP account selected, that behavior does not happen. And, the “editable toolbar/menu” feature that GNOME applications are supposed to adhere to… well, Evolution doesn’t honor that, and it should. So there is no way for me to bind a key to the action of “Post to the folder I am in,” would would be the second best option; the best option, of course, would be for it to behave consistently: When I am in my Gmail account, fire off e-mail that way. When I am in my college account, fire off e-mail that way. When I am in my NNTP account, fire off a post to the newsgroup that way. :-) My comment about the priority is more of a global thing; it seems that every project makes the quirks and inconsistencies a low priority. Of course, if I knew how to fix these things myself, I would… at least, I suppose, I know how to report them. That doesn’t really say that much, though. :-/ -- NNTP posting should be auto-detected. https://launchpad.net/bugs/74894 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 89909] slowdown caused by network-admin
Public bug reported: I am testing feisty herd5. when I switched from "automatic DNS" to a static IP configuration via network-admin, the system had a terrific slowdown. This means like 2minutes to open a terminal on a P4. From "top", both CPU and memory had very little load. I rebooted several times, both connected (the net was working, only it took 2 min to open the browser) and disconnected (wire off), but the system was terrific slow (it took very long to open applications, even nautilus). I switched to flwm interface, but it was the same. Finally I switched to "automatic DNS" again, and now everything is ok. Weirdest behavior ever on my PC. [Bug 90267] Re: ntp starts before the network is up in feisty
There is a comment in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=399905 about this issue, and it refers to an upstream bug (https://ntp.isc.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=51) where it is strongly recommended not to bounce ntpd on I/F status changes. This is (probably) the reason why /etc/network/ifup.d/ntp is disabled by default: there is a chance the clock will get wildly inaccurate, and the "carefully maintained statistics" will be lost. Per the comments on https://ntp.isc.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=772 upstream it seems that ntp, once it gives up on root, cannot change the IP (which is correct behaviour, since port 123 is privileged). The fix is either to run NTP as root, or to run Linux with capabilities (so that the correct capability can be given to the 'ntp' userid). Anyway, the fix is on 4.2.4, which has not yet been packaged by Debian. So it seems there is no real solution right now. Perhaps one option is not to install ntpd on machines that dynamically and/or frequently change the IP address -- instead, use ntpdate. On the other hand, ntpdate is less reliable (see 'man ntpdate' for example), and it is recommended to be run every hour in order to minimise the chance of large clock changes. Still digging. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Needs Info -- ntp starts before the network is up in feisty https://launchpad.net/bugs/90267 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 90959] Re: gaim version 2.0.0beta6 in fiesty herd 5 doesnt auto login
Hi, It does seem like a Network-manager issue bug that you mentioned. I do have it installed (because Fiesty seems to have installed it for me in the "Notification Area") But the weird thing is, the new Network-manager icon on the "Notification Area" that was installed with Fiesty does not detect my network device, while if I add the Network-Monitor applet using "Add to Panel" the applet works fine.. However, this may be the case since they seem to be different applets ("Notification Area" one is 'Network-Manager' and the Gnome-Applet's is 'Network Monitor'). [Bug 70850] [users-admin] show all users checkbox is gone and there is no way to view users with a UID of less than 1000
Public bug reported: The user-admin dialog in Edgy doesn't show the "show all users" checkbox anymore, and only the users with UID > 1000 are shown. I can see how this may be regarded as a "feature", simplifying the interface, but in some cases may be quite annoying. * test-case (my case): I'm adding a PC to a network with NFS shares; some users over the network have UIDs < 1000, and I need these UIDs to be preserved for NFS to work properly. When I change the pre-defined UIDs, those users are not listed anymore, and I have to edit their properties via console. * test-case 2: I'm just curious, or want to have a look to the complete list of users in a graphical fashion. users-admin was a good tool for that, when it was able to show all users. **WORKAROUND: sudo vi /etc/login.defs change UID_MIN to 1 this is not very clean, but I guess that if one needs to change automatically generated user-ids, he should also be able to take care not to assign "reserved" userids to normal users. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Confirmed -- [users-admin] show all users checkbox is gone and there is no way to view users with a UID of less than 1000 https://launchpad.net/bugs/70850 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
