This needs to be investigated by someone knowledgeable enough before
it's committed.

(DISCLAIMER: I'm a BSD guy. If this, for whatever weird and wonderful
reason, breaks shit in Linux, don't blame me.)

packages and clicking on Synchronize now. It would be nice if the

[Bug 88874] Re: Can't edit anything in alacarte

2007-03-25 Thread Anders Olsson
I haven't yet figured out the cause of this. I'm seeing various other
strange behavior also, such as nautilus windows needs to be refreshed
manually in order to see changes.

On rare occasions all my menu entries are be duplicated, not the
categories them selves but for example in Internet I have two entries
for Evolution, two for Firefox and so on.

Anyway I'm going to wipe this installation and install Feisty soon so I
won't bother investigating this further. I haven't seen anyone else with
similar problems so I would vote for closing it altogether.

[Bug 95853] Delete file in Nautlus - no warning

2007-03-25 Thread Andrei Drynov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

SUMMARY

If a file or a folder is selected in Nautilus and you accidently press
Delete button, they are moved to the Trash.

NO warning is issued (even though in Nautilus Preferences Ask before
emptying the Trash or deleting files is selected )

Very annying and dangerious bug to a common user - I deleted very
important data without realising then cleaned the Trash, so lost that
information.

NOTES

For example, Konquerer asks you if you want to delete a file or a
folder.

[Bug 95865] gnome-settings-daemon thinks it's God, but doesn't do a very good job of it

2007-03-25 Thread Toby Smithe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

gnome-settings-daemon seems to think it's in charge of every preference
that I'd like to set on my computer. While in theory this may be a good
thing, and I agree that if implemented properly it could be, in practice
it is not, as it gets things wrong. My main qualm at the moment is that
where XFCE (which does not have an omnipotent daemon) lets me use my
multimedia keys to control any application that supports them (with the
aid of an Xmodmap), gnome-settings-daemon seems to decide that although
the keys are recognised, it will prohibit me from using them for
anything. This appears to be a regression from Edgy.

[Bug 34859] Re: gdm / X server does not restart after Ctrl + Alt + Backspace

2007-03-25 Thread rasz
/me thinks feisty will be gnome 2.18, and gnome devs dont want to
backport to 2.18 rather hacky bugfix for the hack they introduced
earlier to fix buggy pam modules :) so they pushed this hacky hack for
hacky hack to 2.19. or rather they deleted the hack that bugfixed pam
modules, so now pam modules need fixing :) but restarting gdm works (in
2.19 that is, so not in feisty)

all we can hope is for Ubuntu gnome maintainer to backport this patch.
until then its alt-ctrl-f1 and sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start for us :/

[Bug 95868] many data DVDs do not get automounted with kubuntu 7.04 beta

2007-03-25 Thread Davide R
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

Almost any data DVDs I have do not get automounted with kubuntu 7.04
beta.

The bug seems the same as the following in debian etch:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=370186

And it got fixed with the following patch:

http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/h/hal/hal_0.5.8.1-9/changelog

* debian/patches/30_cdrom_bogus_tocinfo.patch
 - Added. Some cdrom drives/discs report a wrong start of the session in the
TOC, causing hal to not detect the filesystem. Work around this by
rescanning at offset 0 for discs when filesystem detection fails.

So, if this patch isn't already in Feisty hal package, I think it should
be included.

Thanks

I don't know about anyone else, but I encounter this bug when my gnome
session or x server crashes, as sadly does still happen from time to
time, and either exits of its own accord or needs to be killed. Bad
enough that my session crashed; worse that to the non-expert user it
looks like the whole machine broke and needs to be restarted.

I had been working on a file generated by GRAMPS, which has never before
given problems. The file itself was only 12KB but was very slow to move
around, probably because it is a family tree with lots of vector lines.
I then exported the file to PDF which succeeded. I then tried to close
OpenOffice but got a warning that it was not responding, I selected the

Mine crashed as well. I dropped a Windows Mail .eml file in the main

have more info. Maybe I'll make some later.

There is a discussion in gnome.org about this issue.
I'm personally in favour of not asking confirmation but warning the user (for
instance through the status bar message).
