I haven't yet figured out the cause of this. I'm seeing various other strange behavior also, such as nautilus windows needs to be refreshed manually in order to see changes. Anyway I'm going to wipe this installation and install Feisty soon so I won't bother investigating this further. [Bug 95865] gnome-settings-daemon thinks it's God, but doesn't do a very good job of it
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center gnome-settings-daemon seems to think it's in charge of every preference that I'd like to set on my computer. While in theory this may be a good thing, and I agree that if implemented properly it could be, in practice it is not, as it gets things wrong. My main qualm at the moment is that where XFCE (which does not have an omnipotent daemon) lets me use my multimedia keys to control any application that supports them (with the aid of an Xmodmap), gnome-settings-daemon seems to decide that although the keys are recognised, it will prohibit me from using them for anything. This appears to be a regression from Edgy. [Bug 34859] Re: gdm / X server does not restart after Ctrl + Alt + Backspace
/me thinks feisty will be gnome 2.18, and gnome devs dont want to backport to 2.18 rather hacky bugfix for the hack they introduced earlier to fix buggy pam modules :) so they pushed this hacky hack for hacky hack to 2.19. or rather they deleted the hack that bugfixed pam modules, so now pam modules need fixing :) but restarting gdm works (in 2.19 that is, so not in feisty) all we can hope is for Ubuntu gnome maintainer to backport this patch. until then its alt-ctrl-f1 and sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start for us :/ -- gdm / X server does not restart after Ctrl + Alt + Backspace https://launchpad.net/bugs/34859 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 95868] many data DVDs do not get automounted with kubuntu 7.04 beta
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hal Almost any data DVDs I have do not get automounted with kubuntu 7.04 beta. The bug seems the same as the following in debian etch: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=370186 And it got fixed with the following patch: http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/h/hal/hal_0.5.8.1-9/changelog * debian/patches/30_cdrom_bogus_tocinfo.patch - Added. Some cdrom drives/discs report a wrong start of the session in the TOC, causing hal to not detect the filesystem. Work around this by rescanning at offset 0 for discs when filesystem detection fails. So, if this patch isn't already in Feisty hal package, I think it should be included. Mine crashed as well. I dropped a Windows Mail .eml file in the main window. So that probably classifies as a import right. I'm sorry I don't have more info. [Bug 95853] Re: Delete file in Nautlus - no warning
There is a discussion in gnome.org about this issue. I'm personally in favour of not asking confirmation but warning the user (for instance through the status bar message). -- Delete file in Nautlus - no warning https://launchpad.net/bugs/95853 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
