[Bug 16414] Re: All themes fail to indicate mousedown on scrollbar thumbs and sliders
** Description changed: - Steps to reproduce: - 1. Choose any of the themes shipped with Ubuntu, including the default. - 2. Mouse down on a slider or a scrollbar thumb. + 1. Switch to the Human theme if not already using it. (The problem also occurs with other themes, but I'm most concerned about the default theme.) + 2. Mouse down on a button (e.g. Help in Power Management Preferences). +- Observe that it goes darker to show that you're clicking it. + 3. Mouse down on a checkbox (e.g. Use sound to notify in Power Management Preferences). +- Observe that it goes darker to show that you're clicking it. + 4. Mouse down on a radio button (e.g. Always display an icon in Power Management Preferences). +- Observe that it goes darker to show that you're clicking it. + 5. Mouse down on a slider (e.g. Set display brightness to: in Power Management Preferences), or on a scrollbar thumb. +- Observe that ... nothing happens. - What should happen: - * The control changes color to confirm that you're dragging it (as opposed to, - say, having clicked on the pixel immediately above it by mistake). + There is no apparent reason for this inconsistency. I'm aware that other + OSes also make this mistake (for example Windows 95/98/2000 got it wrong + but Windows XP got it right, and Mac OS 8/9 got it right but Mac OS X + gets it wrong). But it's more important to be internally consistent than + consistent with other OSes. And it would be quite easy to fix: make the + thumb or slider a bit darker while it is being clicked. - What actually happens: - * Nothing. + This bug has nothing to do with mouseover effects, just mousedown + feedback. -- All themes fail to indicate mousedown on scrollbar thumbs and sliders https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/16414 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 106308] Re: All 'windows' are missing their 'frames and the panel in general is not working correctly
OK... It looks like it all comes down to Nautilus crashing and it seems like it has to do with moving files around in the 'File Browser' on the 'right of' screen. All desktop icons disappear and once I click 'ok' in the below fault window, Nautilus starts back up and one File Browser window, no matter how many I had open, comes back up, but on the main screen. Also part of this, is that right clicking on any 'window frame' such as to 'move to a different desktop' causes both screens to cycle through each open window on each desktop; I have four desktops for each of the two screens. The other thing is that when it does all this, including crashing, it isn't generating a crash report anymore and I know I didn't tell it not to; I believe that is a selection when the bug report thingy comes up. I'm not sure how to check that, though, or where I can reset it. Anyway... below is the fault window that comes up: Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error. is the 'window' heading and the 'details' are: Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the factory.Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem. and as I said, when I click on the ok, Nautilus comes back up. [Bug 109118] Re: Desktop effect (switch between workspaces..) makes my System crash
I have this problem as well when using the workspace switcher, usually when scrolling through with the mouse wheel. It has happened first when I checked the Workspaces on a Cube button in Desktop effects. It has persisted even though I have disabled this option. What happens is like you say above -- both panels go out. Restarting X fixes it, of course. Sometimes only the bottom panel goes out, sometimes both, sometimes the desktop icons go too. Comment #1 from Tim-Philipp Müller (developer, points: 22) 2007-04-21 15:39 UTC [reply] The stack trace looks good and there are two seemingly identical crashers, but it somehow just doesn't make sense to me. - g_object_new() can't fail AFAIK - obj-foo=x can't fail either if obj is a valid allocated object struct as g_object_new() should return it Maybe gaim or something else is thrashing the memory? [Bug 109211] feisty doesn't work with external CD writers anymore
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner It seems that feisty doesn't work with external CD writers anymore. I have tried two external USB CD writers: 1. TEAC DW-224E-B 1.6A; 2. Samsung CD-RW/DVD Drive SM-348 + USB - IDE adapter. Those same CD writers work well with dapper and edgy. Steps to reproduce: 1. Insert a blank CD-R or a CD-RW into the external cd writer. 2. Right click on a ISO image, and then click Write to disc Click OK. 3. A window pops up immediately, asking me to insert a blank disc. See attached screenshot. 4. If I click OK, the same window will pop up again... cdrecord(wodim) commandline also fails to work with external CD writers. See the following command outputs. [Bug 109221] gcalctool-gtk menu launcher (file /usr/share/menu/gcalctool-gtk) is broken
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gcalctool-gtk I've noticed, that Gcalctool launcher is missing in main menu of lots of Window Manager's (e.g. IceWM, FluxBox, etc), which still doesn't use freedesktop menu standard. This is because ccalctool-gtk menu launcher (file /usr/share/menu/gcalctool-gtk) is broken - ?package() should have gcalctool-gtk, not gcalctool in menu launcher file - /usr/share/menu/gcalctool-gtk Anothet problem with gcalctool package or menu file is missing icon - last line of /usr/share/menu/gcalctool-gtk is icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/gcalctool.png, but there are no /usr/share/pixmaps/gcalctool.png file nor in gcalctool-gtk nor in gcalctool package :( There is debian/gcalctool.xpm file in gcalctool source package, but it seems this file isn't used when building gcalctool-gtk and gcalctool packages. in debian/changelog I found such info: gcalctool (5.9.8-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low - debian/gcalctool.menu: use .png icon instead of .xpm [..] gcalctool (5.8.17-1) unstable; urgency=low - Fix missing icon in Debian menu by converting the gnome-calculator art of gnome-icon-theme in 32x32 to XPM and installing it in /usr/share/pixmaps/gcalctool.xpm. It seems Daniel Holbach [EMAIL PROTECTED] forgot to check if his changes to debian/gcalctool.menu, changed in 5.9.8-0ubuntu1 were correct :( I'm attaching fixed gcalctool-gtk.menu file to this bugreport (this file contains icon=/usr/share/icons/gnome/32x32/apps/gnome-calculator.png, and because of this icon is visible only when gnome-icon-theme is installed) ** Affects: gcalctool (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Affects: gcalctool (Baltix) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Also affects: gcalctool (Baltix) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- gcalctool-gtk menu launcher (file /usr/share/menu/gcalctool-gtk) is broken https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109221 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gcalctool in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 109224] Optical drive tray ejects when ejecting USB removable hard disc drive
Public bug reported: I have a small 2.5 USB hard disc drive caddy. When plugging it in to my Ubuntu Fiesty box, two of the partitions appear on the desktop (one NTFS, one ext3, the swap partition on the drive is excluded). Accessing them works fine. Selecting one of the drives on the GNOME desktop with the right mouse button and selecting Eject (the only obvious menu item for dismounting it) successfully dismounts the drives (along with a little pop-up explaining that data is being flushed if required), and then ejects my DVD-RW drive's tray. Sometimes it says cannot eject volume, and appears to remount the partitions. I have yet to discover any pattern to which it does, but if it does the latter, you have to resort to the command line to unmount the device. (pumount works a treat.) I have since reformatted the disc to be a different shape, but the issue occurs similarly. uname -a: Linux trite 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 06:17:24 UTC 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux On plugging in the USB device, the following appears in dmesg: [ 9166.029169] usb 5-8: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 [ 9167.139572] usb 5-8: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 9171.083358] usb 5-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 9171.083660] scsi3 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [ 9171.083779] usb-storage: device found at 4 [ 9171.083781] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [ 9176.074880] usb-storage: device scan complete [ 9176.075369] scsi 3:0:0:0: Direct-Access Generic USB Disk 9.02 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 [ 9176.077102] SCSI device sdb: 39070080 512-byte hdwr sectors (20004 MB) [ 9176.077974] sdb: Write Protect is off [ 9176.077977] sdb: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00 [ 9176.077979] sdb: assuming drive cache: write through [ 9176.078846] SCSI device sdb: 39070080 512-byte hdwr sectors (20004 MB) [ 9176.079720] sdb: Write Protect is off [ 9176.079722] sdb: Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00 [ 9176.079724] sdb: assuming drive cache: write through [ 9176.079727] sdb: sdb1 sdb2 sdb3 sdb4 [ 9176.128264] sd 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi disk sdb [ 9176.128307] sd 3:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0 [ 9176.767186] NTFS-fs warning (device sdb1): parse_options(): Option utf8 is no longer supported, using option nls=utf8. Re: [Bug 108720] Re: fiesty fawn - gnome panels not appearing from desk to desk
Not that I know of. I downloaded the beta when the kernel was .12 (now .15) I have kept the machine on daily updates. Machine is a plain semperon 1700+, nvidia agp 660gt Problem occurs regularly enough that I decided to report it. The problem seems to be time related - i.e. machine is idle, gone to screensaver but to standby or hibernation etc. Basically I can have the machine just sitting there with evolution. Everything works properly (I can load apps no problems and move them to other desks) but when I switch to another desk, there are no panels - balloon messages can appear (new song or email received) but I cannot click on the panel to see what it happening. I can alt+tab between open windows but I cannot get to menu's to do anything else. only way around this that I have found so far is, ctrl+alt+backspace or ctrl+alt+f1 and do a shutdown from the console. as a test to see if I have compiz, I ran it from a user xterm with --replace. it works but menu's have disappeared and I cannot close active windows without compiz now running. I will look into compiz to see what it is. - sorry but I havent been using linux much since the very early days and all the new stuff is unresearched. thanks for your interest so far. glenby On Mon, 2007-04-23 at 09:29 +, Sebastien Bacher wrote: Thank you for your bug. [Bug 109224] Re: Optical drive tray ejects when ejecting USB removable hard disc drive
I can reliably reproduce the cannot eject volume part of this bug with one of my two USB drives, and can not reproduce it with the other. Connecting both at once in either order does not affect this. Upon right-clicking on the icon for /media/brick (the affected disk) and choosing Eject, the icon vanishes, a Cannot eject volume dialog appears, the icon reappears and a Nautilus window for the disk is opened. grepping the output of `lsof` for either sdb or brick yields nothing, and `pumount brick` works as expected.
