The upstream bug report at GNOME

adding back VCD support to GStreamer.
Sadly noone has picked up the task yet.

[Bug 109852] Cannot mount LUKS partitions

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

When I plug in a USB harddrive containing both encrypted and normal
partitions, the normal partitions are mounted but the encrypted ones are
not.

I am asked for a password for the encrypted partition, and a new device
luks_crypto_b6331b77-cd2e-4469-a9a3-f302ef75d538 is created in
/dev/mapper, but it is not mounted anywhere.

[Bug 106939] Re: (update-desktop-database:12124): core dump

Hello,
I`ve got the very similar problem, however, another packages are installed
errorneously.
At first, my dpkg didn`t work at all because it couldn`t completely remove
gparted app after initial installation.

Following advice I`ve found somewhere to insert "exit 0;" line into the
"/var/lib/dpkg/info/APPNAME-postrm", I`ve managed to install some stuff
I need.

However, now when I run "apt-get install -f", I`ve got the following

[Bug 109505] Re: Rhythmbox Internal Errors

2007-04-24 Thread Micah
Yeah, it only happened when importing the music from my Samba share. It
hasn't happened since. I'll try deleting all of my music from Rhythmbox
and re-importing, just to see what it does. I'll also be upgrading to
7.04 soon, so when I do that I'll try with the new version.

Normally I wouldn't file unless I could repeat it, but it was such an
odd error message... it just said "File a bug." So I filed a bug. Once
I hit OK, I was able to continue using the program.

Weird.

[Bug 109845] Epiphany "Download link" always opens destination folder

2007-04-24 Thread Q
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

This is new behavior with Feisty. Edgy did not behave this way.

If you right-click a link in Epiphany and select "Download link", it
will download and the target folder will open automatically when the
download completes. This happens even when the folder is already open.
If the download path is the desktop, no folder is opened. I created a
new user with no existing config files and this behavior still exists.

Steps:
1) Configure epiphany to download to a custom path. Disable the open option
(this does not seem to make any different)
2) Browse to a web site in Epihpany with download links (I was using
attachments from gmail)
3) Right-click the link and select "Download link" from the context menu
--> when the download completes, the target folder is opened

Expected Result:
The target folder never opens

[Bug 43589] Re: [totem-gstreamer] wont play vcd for "unknown reason"

2007-04-24 Thread Feistybird
I'm using Fesity, I can't play (s)vcds with totem-gstreamer, totem-xine,
gxine, and (G)mplayer/Kmplayer.

totem-xine error: "vcd:///media/cdrom0′ There is no input plugin to handle the
location of this movie"
gxine error: segment fault. (and crashed)
mplayer error: Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.

So far only "mplayer vcd://2" works.

Another problem is that ubuntu detects the VCD, mounts automatically to
right path (/media/cdromX), but there is no desktop icon appears, and I
can't 'eject' the device unless typing commands.

gxine used to work with my previous 6.10 to play (S)VCDs, but not any
more after the recent upgrade to Feisty.

Thanks.

[Bug 84505] Re: sound volume control broken on dell inspiron 9300 laptop

2007-04-24 Thread jfinkels
It appears that on my Dell Inspiron 9300 with Ubuntu 7.04, the front
panel volume up, volume down, and mute buttons affect ONLY the "Master"
track. However, sound output uses both the "Master" track (Front left
and Front right channels) and the "Master Mono" track (Mono channel).
For example, pressing the mute button will mute ONLY the Master track,
leaving the Master Mono track at it's previous volume (which sounds
terrible :\ ).

[Bug 23660] Re: [network-admin] 'Enable this connection' option in network settings is redundant

2007-04-24 Thread JoshuaPurcell
I would think the post above this (by Pascal) is a different bug, and
one that I'm experiencing at the moment. I am using NetworkManager to
automatically grab an IP address through DHCP for 99% of the network
connectivity I need. Occasionally I'll need a static IP and that's when
I'll open up network-admin, select properties of my wired connection and
click the box to 'Enable this connection' (in other words get network-
admin to handle the configuration.

The problem happens when I'm finished with the static IP and I want
NetworkManager to control the interface... network-admin will not stop
controlling the interface since this check box labeled "Enable this
Connection' will not go unchecked after being checked. The only solution
is to manually edit /etc/network/interfaces to take out all lines
relating to eth0, then kill and restart the NetworkManger process.

The best solution may very will be to add static IP address
configuration functionality to NetworkManger (and not use network-admin
at all), but another possiblity is to just fix the problem with the
network-admin checkbox and continue to use two applications to do one
job.

Sorry, but I do not believe that this situation applies. eg...
"Start the program under control of memcheck:" I noticed the problem
sometime after an update was run. After checking the "forum" I realized
that others had experienced the same condition. It seems to have
something to do with the update process.

[Bug 82077] Re: [apport] gnome-volume-control crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_class_meta_marshal()

2007-04-24 Thread Juan Pablo Salazar Bertín
Ok, I've been playing with gnome-volume-control. It always crashes (not only
once in every install as I though), but apport is launched only the first 2
times in every install.
So, the easy way to make it crash and get some advise:

1. In a terminal, load gnome-volume-control.
2. Be sure the Options tab is enabled. If it isn't, enable "Input Source" in
Edit -> Preferences.
3. Go to the Options tab, and set the focus in the combobox.
4. Change to other tab (be sure the focus is not in the tab title).
5. Close the window.

So, the terminal will show something like this:

(gnome-volume-control:5906): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion
`object->ref_count > 0' failed
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I hope this helps.

[Bug 76283] Nautilus & Gnome desktop display two memory card icons if Ubuntu is booted with memory card inserted

2007-04-24 Thread davescafe
Nautilus and the Gnome desktop display two memory card icons if Ubuntu
is booted with memory card inserted. This only happens when the memory
card is inserted before Ubuntu is booted. If I insert the memory card
into my USB reader after Ubuntu boots, I will only see one icon, as
expected, in Nautilus and on the desktop.

This issue does not affect Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake). I first noticed
it appear in Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft). The problem persists with Ubuntu
7.04 (Feisty Fawn).

There does not seem to be any difference between the behavior of the two
icons. While the memory card is mounted, it is possible to access the
contents of the volume by opening either icon (by double-clicking).

It is possible to unmount the volume by right-clicking on one of the 2
icons and selecting, "Unmount". The memory card will un-mount, however,
one of the icons will remain on the Desktop and one will remain in the
Nautilus "Places' menu--although in Nautilus the icon will change
locations.

[Bug 109767] nsert a rewriteable or blank disc when trying to use CD/DVD Creator, with blank disc in CDR drive

2007-04-24 Thread slackwarelife
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hopefully someone has an answer for this one.

I get the previously stated message "Insert a rewritable or blank disc"
when I attempt to use CD/DVD Creator to burn files, although any and all
CDR's I've put into the drive have all been new and blank.

Thanks.

[Bug 109760] Re: Top and Bottom Screen Panels Stopped Working Properly in Ubuntu Feisty

2007-04-24 Thread Ohbother01
A couple of additional problems:

Trying to add Workplace Switcher Applet to the bottom panel does nothing
-- no applet is displayed there.

The only way to close an application is using File > Quit, again because
the window borders or frames are missing around applications.

If an application does not open maximized, then it obscures only the
left part of the top panel, but there is no way to move the application
window down to show the rest of the panel.

The icons on the top panel keep getting mixed up and moved out of place.
It is not al;ways possible to move them back, even after I unlock them
from the panel.

[Bug 71200] Re: No programs can be added in the startup list.

2007-04-24 Thread AmazingRando
I encountered this same problem. Changing ownership of
.config/autostart did fix the problem, but it seems to me that what
needs to happen is that gnome-sessions needs to display an error if it
is unable to write the updated startup configuration, rather than close
as though nothing is wrong. I suggest that we change this to be a bug
with gnome-session that it doesn't have any error notification for this
problem. What app might be changing the permissions of
.config/autostart would then be a separate issue.

[Bug 109760] Top and Bottom Screen Panels Stopped Working Properly in Ubuntu Feisty

2007-04-24 Thread Ohbother01
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Help! I'm experiencing a major UI problem that's making my work in
Ubuntu very difficult. I've recently upgraded to Ubuntu Feisty 7.04.
Initially, the top and bottom panels worked properly. But today, I'm
getting these strange and very annoying behaviors:

1. Top panel disappears when launching any application. It's not auto-
hiding -- there is no way to bring it back by hovering the mouse pointer
at the very top of the screen. (Even setting it to auto-hide does not
fix the problem -- once an application launches, the top panel is gone,
and again, no mouse action can bring it back.) The only solution is to
close all open applications.

2. Bottom panel either vanishes, or it is displayed, but in any event,
it does not show the names of the running applications any longer.

3. View Desktop button on the bottom panel produces an error message,
claiming that this feature is not enabled.

4. Switch Workplaces applet is not displayed on the bottom panel at all.

5. There are no more frames around the applications that are running. I
cannot maximize, minimize, move them or change their sizes in any way.

:-(

Notes:

During the upgrade to Feisty, the system had shut itself off (probably
because I had set it to automatically shut down after 1 hour of
inactivity -- I had not expected the system to think that an upgrade in
progress = "inactivity").   :-(

After turning the computer back on, I re-started the updater application
manually, and it seemed to complete the update OK.

After the upgrade, Feisty immediately recommended downloading and
installing a closed-source video driver, which I let it do (I would look
up the exact video driver, but I cannot switch away from Firefox due to
the problems above).

The panels then worked OK for a while, but then they just stopped
working properly today.

Disabling automatic saving of session information on exit does not help.
The above problems persist after rebooting.

Switching the Theme back to Human (default) also does not solve the
problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

[Bug 107605] Re: formatting code showing in "allow access" dialogue

2007-04-24 Thread Matthew Carroll
To trigger the dialogue, I compose a new message in thunderbird, and
press send. At this point Enigmail / OpenPGP attempts to sign the
message, for which it needs to pull my pgp passphrase from the keyring,
and so the "Allow access" dialogue appears as shown in the screenshot
above.

Default language (from system -> administration -> language support) is
English (Canada)

It does not occur when the same dialogue appears with nm-applet pulling
the passphrase for my wireless network from the keyring. Screenshot
attached.

2007-04-24 Thread Ari
Public bug reported:

There is another bug in launchpad, #13265 opened in 2005 (!!), that
includes this problem, however for some reason it has been rejected, so
I assume at that time the problem could not be reproduced.

So here it goes again, hopefully it will be visible to the developers.

The smaller drive is set up as two EXT3 partitions, both under 100GB. This
ejects without problem.

[Bug 107748] Re: Evolution hangs temporarily, for periods of up to 5 or 10 minutes, since late in the Feisty development cycle

2007-04-24 Thread ndelong
I'm actually experiencing similar issues. Evolution hits 100% CPU and
stays there for at least 20-30 seconds or more. I can get it to happen
every time I click Send & Receive Email. I have 2 remote IMAP accounts
configured (one is hosted using Dovecot & the other is Courier). I have
a decent amount of mail filters configured to sort mail as it comes in
to the Inbox of each account & the mail is moved into separate folders
contained within the accounts. The only thing saving my entire system
from hanging is that it's a dual-core (I'm writing this as evolution is
hanging). I've got a fresh install of Feisty from this morning & ran all
updates.

$ evolution --version
GNOME evolution-2.10 2.10.1

I'll see if I can gather more useful metrics & post them.

[Bug 34321] Re: should not write the session when changing automatic session saving option

2007-04-24 Thread Christian Göbel
This bug is still present.
I just installed Ubuntu 7.04 on my intel386 laptop to test if this bug is still
present with Gnome 2.18.1.
There is a slight change in the misbehavior, compared to former misbehavior:
Now the session
dialog box is not saved anymore at the moment when the the "Automatically save
changes to the session" is unselected.
However the session is still saved at that moment.

To produce this bug I did the following:
1. Boot into Gnome
2. Open Nautilus
3. Select "Automatically save changes to the session" in the
System/Sessions/Session Options dialog.
4. Log out and log in again
result: as expected Nautilus is opened after login in.
5. Open in addition the Gedit Text-editor.
6. unselect "Automatically save changes to the session" in the
System/Sessions/Session Options dialog.
7. Log out and log in again
result: Nautilus and the Text-editor are opened exactly as they have been at
the moment at which I have unselected
the "Automatically save changes to the session"
expected results: getting a plain standard desktop after the login (without
open gnome-application).

It seems like at the exact moment when unselecting the save-session option the
session is saved for a last time and this
session is reestablished after each log-in.
Probably the file ~/.gnome2/session should just be deleted at the moment where
the option is unselected.

However, since now there is the option "Save the current session" in the
System/Session/Session Options dialog it is easy
to get back to the default desktop. In my case it was sufficient to close
Nautilus and Gedit and to click on "Save the current session".
Thanks a lot to the developers to add this very useful option.

[Bug 90311] non default keyboard layout on login

2007-04-24 Thread Elias K Gardner
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Installed Ubuntu with US as region and Keyboard set as U.S. English. I
have since switched to Dvorak as default with no problems except that
the login screen upon startup is still U.S English (QWERTY) and there is
no method for selecting keyboard or layout on login screen. Original
install was Breezy, have since upgraded twice and am running edgy
without a clean install. Dvorak was set as default only after the edgy
upgrade. Dvorak keyboard works fine everywhere after login. Is this
simply a problem of not having done a clean install or an actual bug?
There seems to be some duplicates but all are old and I think un-
updated.

However, your question triggered a memory that I had that drive set up

it seems to be working properly.

Not sure if that that's a different bug or user error :)

Re: [Bug 107567] Re: moving files from nautilus samba share is not a real move

2007-04-24 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
moving the file using a window machine (and the same samba server)
works without this problem

The bug is not always reproducible here, only when you try to move a
file from a folder, to the share root, for instance:
192.168.1.254/Router/Incoming/BigFile
to
192.168.1.254/Router/

If I move the file in share subdirectories this problem does not exist

[Bug 79610] Re: Gnome Network Monitor panel applet doesn't have properly transparent background

2007-04-24 Thread tombraun
It is not only the network monitor applet, and it is definitely also a
problem in 7.04.

I recently did a fresh install of Feisty, and suddenly some number of applets
did not
have a properly transparent background anymore (they had it with Edgy).

Examples, the 'Character Palette' applet, but also the launcher for the
Lifera stream reader.
