[Bug 70223] Re: Internal data flow error.

2007-05-04 Thread Rich Wales
Please forgive my denseness, Hadriw, but I'm really not sure I
understand what you were trying to say. It sounded like you were saying
a solution to this problem can be found by googling for the words "totem
ubuntu stream flow", but when I looked for those words (without the
quotes), I got a bunch of pages, but nothing that clearly described a
solution. (Searching for this exact phrase, in quotes, yielded no
matches at all.)

If you could describe your "trick", I think a lot of people (myself
included) would be extremely grateful.

[Bug 22119] Re: [network-admin] Dial out does not work

2007-05-04 Thread Michael Losonsky
In the final Feisty release, the modem in Admin -> Networking now works enough
to let you configure the modem and dial out and connect. However the modem
now keeps disconnecting. This also happens with wvdial in Feisty (which was
not the case in 6.10 and 6.06). The disconnecting seems to be related to the
ppp daemon.

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-05-04 Thread Alex Mauer
Of course, since vte is an xterm emulator, that means that doing what
xterm does is 100% correct.

Thus the fault lies either with the terminfo database for claiming that
Shift-F1 is F13 is \EO2P or with MC for thinking that Shift-F1 is F13.

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-05-04 Thread Alex Mauer
This looks to be a problem with vte changing to match XTerm's behaviour,
and possibly XTerm not matching how terminfo thinks it behaves.

http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/vte/trunk/src/keymap.c?r1=1341&r2=1391
shows the change.

It looks like the distinction is there to differentiate F13-F16 from
Shift-F1 through Shift-F4. I don't understand the code well enough to
see why it only applies to F1-F4 and not F5-F12.

[Bug 112451] Evince opens only the first page of a postscript file

2007-05-04 Thread Neural
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I don't know if this is related to the other problem with postscript files but
I have this problem:
when evince opens a ps file it displays only the first page stating 1 of 1 as
page's number in the widget pane. No crash or "loading" message is displayed.
Try this:
http://www.genalgo.com/GENETIC_PROGRAMMING/THESIS/angeline-phd.tar.gz
The archive is divided in chapters .ps files.
I have this versions installed (after the upgrade from edgy:
ii gs-common 0.3.11ubuntu1 Common files for
different Ghostscript releases
ii gs-esp 8.15.4.dfsg.1-0ubuntu1 The Ghostscript

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-05-04 Thread Dmik
Alex, I've tried to downgrade gnome-terminal to 2.16.1-0ubuntu1 in
Feisty and nothing has changed. It means that the problem is indeed not
(entirely) in gnome-terminal itself but maybe somewhere else in GNOME --
the thing is that gnome-terminal is where it can be clearly observed.
Anyway, I still have an Edgy machine nearby where gnome-terminal 2.16.1
doesn't show the above problems (but xterm still does), and if you need
me to test/check something please ask.

Anyone experiencing problems with feisty's vte should probably try this out

[Bug 112381] RFE: launchers should not silently fail when the launched app segfaults

2007-05-04 Thread Marty Vona
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

It appears that my fresh install of ubuntu 7.04 laid down a faulty
/usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0.1200.11 file. That's bad (installer media did
verify ok). But that's not what I'm intending to report here.

The file was present and had the correct size and date, but had
different binary contents than the same file on (what should have been)
an identical system.

On the system with the bad glib file, gnome-terminal would not start.
Eventually I discovered it was segfaulting. And after much much more
sleuthing I finally discovered the libglib file issue.

Attempting to launch gnome-terminal I got the familiar progress cursor
for a little while, and then nothing. Why did I not get an error
message? That is my RFE.

I had to eventually launch xterm, and from that try manually launching
gnome-terminal from a command line, to see that it was segfaulting.

It further appeared that the glib problem was common to all applications
that were trying to use the VTE library. Apparrently this includes
update-manager, which was also very silently failing to do its job --
the update selection window would come up, but clicking the "go" button
or whatever ultimately did nothing, not even issue an error message.

Again, it is not my intention to report this as anything other than an
RFE that gnome app launches which segfault should not be die silently,
but should report to the user an error message describing what happened.
It surprises me very much that they do not, and also that I found no
other such RFE.

Note: I do not feel it would be reasonable to think that since the root
issue was a messed up glib binary that such issues cannot be addressed.
These things *do* happen and they *do* need to be dealt with as best as
possible if we are going to have a system which is truly usuable by
everybody and their mom.

Maybe gnome was indeed trying to show me an error message, but maybe the
program it was trying to use to do *that* was also segfaulting (maybe
because it too was trying to use VTE?). Even then, there should have
been a message somewhere. I saw nothing in sytem logs (was I not
looking in the right place? Where should I have been looking?). And
the error notification system should have some resilience to its own
failure, e.g., reverting to a simple xlib dialog in case its fancy
gnome-based UI does not init.

In case anyone gets here because they are having a similar problem with
silently dying gnome-terminal, try sudo apt-get install --reinstall
libglib2.0-0; that fixed the issue for me. You may very well have other
problems. Look into debsums.

This workaround also worked for me. Feisty value was us-101, was blank
on edgy. Created new bogus value (easy since kbd is munged) of "c.b" and
removed us-101 entry. exited the editor. btw, to bring up the gconf-
editor, navigate thru the places menu to /usr/bin/gconf-editor and
double click it. navigate to /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd and
edit the layout field. Leave the kbd.sysbackup alone. log out of to gdm

[Bug 70223] Re: Internal data flow error.

2007-05-04 Thread hadriw
The problem is not the difficult to fix the problem or not, the problem
is the people realise that they can play the film using this little
click...

If they don't realize that they won't be able to do anything and of
course they will complain. But this is not dificult, because i had the
same problem and i write in google finder "Totem ubuntu stream flow" and
i find the trick.

So exactly this problem is "low" importance. But I wish developers can
solve this for the next release, a patch I think is not necesary.

[Bug 112350] Evince gets stuck when trying to open PDF file

2007-05-04 Thread Sami Pesonen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When I try to open PDF either from web browser (Epiphany) or by first
starting Evince from bash and opening PDF from disk it gets stuck. In
terminal I can see following printout:

$ evince

(evince:17282): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_new: assertion `width
> 0' failed

(evince:17282): Poppler-CRITICAL **: void
poppler_page_render_to_pixbuf(PopplerPage*, int, int, int, int, double,
int, GdkPixbuf*): assertion `pixbuf != NULL' failed

(evince:17282): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_new: assertion `width

(evince:17282): Poppler-CRITICAL **: void
poppler_page_render_to_pixbuf(PopplerPage*, int, int, int, int, double,

(evince:17282): Poppler-CRITICAL **: void
poppler_page_render_to_pixbuf(PopplerPage*, int, int, int, int, double,
int, GdkPixbuf*): assertion `pixbuf != NULL' failed

After that nothing happens, I click close button twise and I can then
kill the Evince instanse. I have latest official libgtk-2.10.11-0ubuntu3

Hi,
There is no window list and I also don't have any window borders, no icons
to resize or to close the windows. I have just one window in the bottom
panel and can't add any or increase the number and I had 6 switcher windows.
Was working fine yesterday. I did download a new background image, have
since gone back to my older background a simple watercolour.
