[Bug 113003] Playing video in totem causes high I/O wait time
Public bug reported: When playing a video in totem the time apps spend in I/O wait (reported in the System Monitor applet) slowly climbs upward, eventually the system becomes almost completely unresponsive. Shutting down totem can stop the problem. If left long enough the time spent in wait gets to 100% and the time it takes for the system to stabilize increases, taking several minutes. Switching out of X and to a terminal (say Ctrl-Alt-F1) does not fix the problem but once I go back I can see that while I was out of X the system was idle instead of in wait. So actually displaying to the video card may have something to do with it. I have tried this with and without 3D effects (Beryl) and Beryl seems to make it worse but it happens without it so it doesn't seem to be directly related. I am running Ubuntu Feisty fully up to date. I have a Dell XPS system with a Intel Pentium D at 2.7GHz, GeForce 6800 video card. I am using the restricted nVidia drivers. ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Playing video in totem causes high I/O wait time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113003 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 112909] Support extended attributes
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Support for extended attributes is currently extremely lacking to non-existent, even if the file system supports them. Extended attributes lost when a file is copied or moved, they are lost when editors or other programs update a file by deleting and re-creating it, they are lost when backing up files with tar, rsync or other programs. There is no support to actually use EAs from GUI programs (e.g. in Nautilus) either. EA could be a great way to allow both programs (in a hidden way) and users (via a GUI) to add meta-data and annotations to their files, which in turn could be used by Beagle to allow more intelligent searches. Making this work in a decent way and actually using it in a productive way could mean a major competitive edge over other OS which are still also lacking all these modern features. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Support extended attributes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112909 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 103896] Re: Poor print formatting in Evolution
I concur with Greg about Evolution's poor page layout problem. When I print an email message, the printing starts at top edge of paper and continues to bottom edge. There are no top and bottom margins. This is not merely a problem of setting the margins -- Evolution's page setup dialog doesn't provide any way to set margins at all. To see this, in the mail view, select an email message to view, then click Print and then the Page Setup tab. There are no margin setting parameters on the setup dialog. Moreover, the scale factor doesn't make any difference to the printout, still going from top edge to bottom edge of sheet even when scaling is set way down, such as to 60%. It appears that the Evolution developers just forgot to provide this very basic function -- getting an acceptable printout of a message. I am using Mozilla's Thunderbird email program instead of the integrated mailer in Evolution because Thunderbird does allow one to set top and bottom margins and even to put useful headers and footers on the pages. The only thing I can say about this oversight by the Evolution team is, "what were they thinking when they overlooked providing margins?" Is there a chance that the margins Evolution uses are actually found in some other printer definition file elsewhere in Linux? -- Poor print formatting in Evolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103896 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 86893] Re: [Feisty] Starting HPLIP Toolbox in DVD edition or after update through internet: No python-qt3, but plenty of space on DVD or internet repository
@ThomasHynk This is a dist-upgrade issue if you upgraded from Edgy to Feisty, on a clean Feisty install this will not happen. Please remove hplip.desktop and/or hp-toolbox.desktop from ~/.local/share/applications/ HPLIP Toolbox is hidden from the menus by default, you need to show it by clicking System > Preferences > Main Menu then select System > Preferences > HPLIP Toolbox. Since hplip.desktop has NoDisplay=true we will always have to show it in the menus through System > Preferences > Main Menu which creates a copy of the desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications/ with NoDisplay=false. [Bug 112842] "Open With Other Application" fast search of listed apps malfunctions
Public bug reported: Open a nautilus file browser window. Right click on a file; let's say you right click on "dmesg.log" in your home directory. Choose "Open with Other Application" (by the way, I think the correct spelling would be "Open with Another Application") Now you get a list of available applications. Let's say you want to quickly locate the text editor. So, as I did in Dapper and Edgy, I start a fast search typing "text" (for example). I would expect that the "Text Editor" entry would be highlighted. Instead, I get "Movie Player". In fact, whatever I try to fast search, I always get the wrong application highlighted. Some aspects, such as themes, sound or backgroung settings may not work correctly. The last error message has been: Did not receive a reply. [Bug 36370] wrong Tab-keymap in /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.*
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The default keymaps in /usr/share/xmodmap/ for use with xmodmap, have the following definition for the tab-key : keycode 23 = Tab Tab This means shift-tab works exactly the same as tab, and thus you can't cycle backwards through the controls of a window. From what I've seen on the internet, I think, this should be : keycode 23 = Tab ISO_Left_Tab This problem only occurs when using xmodmap. If you're using gnome's keyboard preferences, it works like a charm. But if you're using dapper with xgl and compiz, you need to use xmodmap for any non-us keyboard and you lose shift-tab functionality. A temporary workaround for this, is to issue these 2 commands when using xmodmap : xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap. xmodmap -e "keycode 23 = Tab ISO_Left_Tab" I've seen this bug in breezy and dapper.
