[Bug 113252] Feature Request: Be able to save or open different configurations

2007-05-07 Thread Rodrigo Donado
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

It would be nice to be able to save the current configuration, and then
be able to load it from the shell, that way you can have your gedit
configured for .txt or for programming in the different languages.
Example I like the background white, with out line numbers for .txt, and
a darker background, and line numbers for scripting in python. Being
able to have an option to load those preferences from the shell would
also be helpful that way we could create another entry in the main menu
with those configurations

[Bug 97107] Re: Braid screensaver cause desktop to freeze up

2007-05-07 Thread lmaxfield
I have this issue with Ubuntu Feisty + amd64 (on Core2 Duo) + Beryl.
Other screensavers do not seem to have the issue. Braid locks the
machine for a good 2 minutes, but if I click on another screensaver in
the list the click is queued and eventually control is restored when
that SS's preview pops up.

[Bug 80856] Re: F-Spot as default for importing photos

2007-05-07 Thread Mark Stosberg
I also like F-spot better and think it is a better default, although
maybe the dependency on Mono makes it too big to fit on the single
Live/Install CD.

In any case, the UI in the preference area should be improved. You
should just able to select 'Gthumb', 'F-Spot', or "Digikam", and it
would apply the right importing command without the user needed to know
that technical detail.

[Bug 107668] Re: Setting an invalid mount point can make a removeable media unaccessible

2007-05-07 Thread TennesseeJed
I've noticed this behavior on my Feisty 7.04 install. To recreate this
problem for yourself, do the following:

1) Connect a USB storage device (or any device that creates a "drive" icon on
the desktop)
2) Right-click the desktop icon for the device once the system has mounted it
and click Properties
3) Under the "Drive" tab, you'll find a text field labeled "Mount Point"
4) Type a typical mount point here, like /mnt/jump_drive or /media/jump_drive

Any time I've ever dealt with a mount point, it has always been a full
path. Why is it different now?

I agree with Joachim's initial recommendations.

[Bug 8357] Re: Allow to set DPI resolution

2007-05-07 Thread Evan Klitzke
Actually, it is possible to have X11 autodetect the DPI of the screen. Just run
the command:
  xdpyinfo | grep resolution
and you will get the correct DPI value for the monitor X is running on. I
think that autodetection is a better mechanism than adding a new setting
somewhere. I just filed a bug on this in the Gnome bugzilla today, and am
going to add that bug to the upstream bug list; if anyone disagrees with that
decision, feel free to change it :-)

[Bug 96054] Re: Mouse (synaptics touchpad) locks when using "switch user"

2007-05-07 Thread Steve Bates
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 68370 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/68370

I have the same problem with a Dell D610 Latitude. The Dell has a built
in touchpad and a nipple or Trackpoint both with their own buttons. I am
able to direct the mouse with the nipple under the 2nd user but this is
largely useless as the buttons on don't work. It could be that the
buttons are not actualy implemented and so are using the same input as
the touchpad.

Logging out as the 2nd user and back in as the 1st and normal operation of
touchpad and mouse buttons returns.
External USB (Optical MS) works for all users.

I'm on feisty, and prior to upgrading was on dapper which also had the same
problem.

[Bug 113185] copy command hang on invalid file name

2007-05-07 Thread Lonepsi
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I get the following message when I copy a file in which name there is the Euro
symbol (€).
Here is the message translated from French: file not found while copying
"smb://g5/D2079_.mht".

The exact name finish with " ...contre les 79€.mht".
The Euro symbol is replaced by underscore . I confirm also there is no "20" in
front of "79" in the real name.

The message in itself is not the problem (perhaps I miss a parameter to
make nautilus understanding fat32, ok). The problem is that nautilus
somewhat "hang". Click on Ignore, cancel or try again erase the message,
but the dialog box of the copy command stay and nothing is copied. You
need to close all nautilus windows to kill the copy.

I got the message while copying a whole directory in which there is the
file.

Then, when I list the files in the repertory, nautilus list the file
with " ...contre les 79_.mht" (without "20", with underscore).

I can select the file in the list. but if I right click on the name (to
choose a copy command), the file name disappear !

file is currently on a FAT32 disk (I guess) under windows 95. I am
running Ubuntu 7.04 for AMD64.

[Bug 109579] Re: thumbnail problems with relative soft-links

2007-05-07 Thread Tom Kirby
I can't get thumbnails in symlinked directories either.

"/home/tom/Desktop/2007-05/" is a symlink pointing to
"/home/tom/pictures/photos_archive/2007-05/".

If I open "~/Desktop/2007-05/" in Nautilus, and then double-click one of
the photos to open it with gthumb, then go to the "browser" view, no
thumbnails appear.

If, on the other hand, I go to
"/home/tom/pictures/photos_archive/2007-05/" in gthumb, all the
thumbnails show up.

I don't know whether this is a problem with gthumb or gnomevfs, as it
could be to do with an error in detecting whether or not the directory
in question is a network share.

I have attached the output I get from gthumb when using
"~/Desktop/2007-05/". I get no output at all when I use
"~/pictures/photos_archive/2007-05/".

Changing the thumbnail setting in Nautilus to allow viewing thumbnails
on network shares does not solve the problem.

I did not get this problem in Edgy.

[Bug 66379] Re: evince does not enable print

2007-05-07 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
@Typhos
Looking at you printingbuginfo.txt I see you have no PPD (printer driver)
installed, I assume you have the Lexmark T520.
According to the Lexmark website this printer supports the following languages:
PostScript Level 3 and PCL6.
PostScript printers only need a printer specific PPD file to make them work.
Please check the driver CD-ROM that came with your printer for PPD files. PPD
files are just text files that can be used on both Windows and Linux. To
install your printer with this PPD click System -> Administration -> Printers,
add new printer, select the connection, click "Install Driver".
If you can't find a PPD file for your printer you should still be able to use
the generic PostScript driver or one of the PCL6 drivers. To do this click
System -> Administration -> Printers, add new printer, select make: Generic and
model: PostScript or PCL6/PCL XL and one of the drivers.

[Bug 113142] mouse de/hover causes size wiggling in gnome volume control

2007-05-07 Thread _deepfire
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media-common

This relates to either Pango, Cairo, GTK2, Gnome-specific widgetset or
the specific app -- gnome-volume-control.

When one hovers the mouse over any part of g-v-c which has a text annotation
the apparent miscalculation
of the text height reservation causes the statusbar to grow taller or shorter,
depending on whether the mouse
entered or left the annotated region, in turn causing the widgets sharing the
same vbox to change height.

cairo is 1.4.6-1
pango is 1.16.2-0ubuntu1
libgtk2.0-0 is 2.10.12-1ubuntu1
gnome-common is 2.18.0-0ubuntu1

[Bug 113092] nautilus in feisty can't open http:// URI which affects service-discovery-applet

2007-05-07 Thread Joe Clifford
Public bug reported:

Using up-to-date feisty.I am not sure if this is either a bug,
regression or removed feature. I am also not sure whether this is a
nautilus, gnome-vfs or service-discovery-applet problem. I only
discovered this when using service-discovery-applet on my laptop to open
web sites published on my home server. Clicking on the Zeroconf
published web site from the service-discovery-applet brings up this
message:

"Couldn't display http://www.recovermypc.co.uk:80/.
The location is not a folder."

I am almost certain that this function worked perfectly in edgy and that
when you clicked on the website in the discovery applet it opened the
page in a new tab in firefox.

Other services advertised by the Zeroconf service applet work fine, eg.
ssh, vnc etc.

I get the impression that nautilus should be able to handle http:// URIs

I have checked that libgnomevfs2-extra is installed which supplies the
libhttp.so module. Also, examining the nautilus service-discovery-applet
plugin in /usr/share/service-discovery-applet/plugins/nautilus.py shows
that nautilus should be able to open http, https, ftp, ftps, sftp, dav
and davs URIs.

Opening a nautilus window, pressing + L to open a location and
typing http://www.domainname.co.uk also brings up the same error about
the location not being a folder. The same happens if I run nautilus in a
terminal window and also if I use 'File'->'Connect to Server' and then
select a custom location (HTTP is not listed).

As a quick fix I changed /usr/share/service-discovery-applet/nautilus.py
to run gnome-open instead of nautilus which works for _http._tcp
Zeroconf connections but I have no idea if it works for the other
protocols listed in the nautilus.py file.

Apologies if this bug is filed under the wrong package.

close the bug. My gconf has turned out to be messed up in a myriad of
ways that gave me issues with Compiz and probably with this and I've had
other applets get stupid and I'm sure it's a problem with whatever my

I have a number of smbfs mount points to a local server. When I start my

to the smbfs mounts). Other Nautilus operations are fine.

[Bug 113067] gdm hangs before login

2007-05-07 Thread wychwood
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I upgraded to Feisty from a clean Edgy install on an HP Compaq nx9030
laptop, and when I boot up it now goes through the first stages fine,
but hangs before login, shortly after the background appears, with a
timer wheel cursor displaying. Switching to another terminal allows me
to log in and perform standard command line operations, although not to
start X since that is already running.

Deleting the /etc/init.d/gdm script caused the system to go straight to
the command line prompt, and starting X manually from there works fine
with full desktop functionality (bar features such as user switching
which are presumably gdm dependent). Copying the gdm script over from
another machine running Edgy (in case that was the source of the
problem) produced the same hang as with the original script.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the gdm and xserver-xorg packages, running
dpkg-reconfigure and dpkg --configure -a, and switching to an earlier
kernel all had no effect.

What doesn't work now is opening files via sftp:// that have only read
