[Bug 108616] Re: Some keys don't work in gedit with France keyboard layout

2007-05-26 Thread Nicolas Bros
The output of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd is :
 layouts = [fr  oss,fr,us,epo]
 model =
 options = [grp grp:ctrls_toggle]
 overrideSettings = true

Is it normal that the keyboard model fr oss has a tabulation in its name?
(ASCII character 0x09, I checked with hd)
That seems weird to me.

I played with the settings and I discovered than when I check the box Both Alt
keys together change group. then the problem disappears!
That is with the following configuration:
 layouts = [fr  oss,fr,us,epo]
 model =
 options = [grp grp:alts_toggle,grp grp:ctrls_toggle]
 overrideSettings = true

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-05-26 Thread Peter Würtz
I disagree, this bug renders Ubuntu/Gnome useless in situations when
working with other workstations in a domain.

Having a central file server for user and group data is very common,
like pam-mounting a users home when logging in or just using a common
cifs share for a group of workers.

From: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance
High - Has a severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users

In my opinion, being unable to save textfiles is a severe impact, this bug
should be marked as high.
This bug is pending long over one year now and we are talking about a text
editors vital function!

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-05-26 Thread Peter Würtz
in line 670, gedit tries to rename the file to a backup file... like
moving testfile to testfile~

if (rename (saver-priv-local_path, backup_filename) != 0)

I checked local_path and backup_filename, they are correct. I also
wrote a small test application using rename() from stdio.h and renamed
the same files on the mounted cifs filesystem, which works.

I'm not a gnome developer, could someone help me out here please? I
assume the rename() function is not the rename function from stdio.h,
does gnome implement its own rename?

[Bug 116929] cannot adjust headset volume with keyboard or headset

2007-05-26 Thread Greg
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The controls on my headset and keyboard control some sort of volume dial (a
graphic pops up for this) and both control the
volume that comes out of the speakers (my monitor speakers) but it does not
affect the volume coming out of my headset
(which is connected in one of the USB ports).

Under Volume Control = Change Device to Headset I can manually change the
volume setting of my headset and
this succesfully changes the sound level I hear with the headeset. Conversely,
when I check the volume level in
Volume Control (the window you get when you right-click on the sound icon on
the top right of the screen) I can see that
this goes up in down along with adjusting volume with the
keyboard/headset-controls but when I change device to
my headset, the volume bar for this does not go up or down when I use the
keyboard or headset controls for adjusting
volume.

In System=Preferences=Sound (which is the same as gnome-sound-properties)
the top-level menu options are Devices, Sounds and System Beep. At the
bottom of the Devices window it says,
Select the device and tracks to control with the keyboard. Use the Shift and
Control keys to select multiple tracks if required.
I select Bass, Treble PCM for my Plantronics Headset, but again, this does
not make a difference.

To do these test I'm running Skype and both Skype and
System-Preferences-Sound are set to ALSA. Also note that
when playing videos on YouTube the audio is only coming out of my monitor
speakers and not my headset (which is
what I would like) and when I'm using Skype the audio is set to only come out
the headset and not my monitor speakers
(again, this is my preferred setting).

I am using a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) on a Shuttle SD39P2
box.

Here's the asked for output for sound bugs:

[Bug 116929] Re: cannot adjust headset volume with keyboard or headset

2007-05-26 Thread Tormod Volden
If you leave the Volume Control panel (where you can adjust the headset
volume) open while you press the volume buttons, the slider in the panel
doesn't move?

Select _only_ the headset PCM in Default Mixer Track Device, then watch
the volume sliders in the panel - which of them move? Go through all
devices in the Volume Control panel.

[Bug 34813] Re: gedit fails to save files over smbfs/cifs

2007-05-26 Thread Peter Würtz
Ok, this is the problem:

Gedit opens a file, moves the original file to a backup file while keeping the
file open, and finally deletes the backup file if you choose not to keep
backups.
The rename method sets errno = ETXTBSY, so moving the original file fails.

I don't think moving/deleting open files on purpose is a good idea,
although it works for most linux file systems. But its definitely a bad
idea for network file systems like sshfs and cifs, which of course
fails.

[Bug 105197] Re: [apport] gnome-screensaver crashed with SIGSEGV

Well, i did my tests only on my existing running system and not on a

bugs that occur are graphical bugs (see above) and i guess its theme
related and not gnome or x.org related. (i am no software engineer so i
only can guess)

If you ask me if the bug is fixed i would say Yes cause it never
reoccured since then and if it happen again someday in the future on a
new installment of ubuntu - say ubuntu gibbon or so - i will report it
to you immediatly.

So i think you can close this bug for the time being.

Best regards

Oliver.

[Bug 34375] Re: Multi-mode (audio+data) CDs always opened by Sound Juicer

2007-05-26 Thread graymatter3

I think this bug should be reported upstream.

I actually have a browse option on right click. But this also opens
SJ. If I use the places menu in nautilus an error pops up:

cdda:///dev/hdc is not a valid location.
Please check the spelling and try again.
--

I'm having this same problem, otherwise the cd will load in Sound
Juicer, but the reported fix was made in Gnome 1.4, but I have 1.8 and
still have the problem of not being able to view the contents other than
SJ. What can I do?

[Bug 117003] strange scroll when viewing a pdf, after reload, with index in side pane

2007-05-26 Thread Vianney le Clément
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When viewing a pdf in evince, the scrolling is quite strange after
reloading and while the Index side pane is visible. This bug happens
when the view is set to Continuous. When you scroll out of a page and
the next/previous page becomes active (it's border becomes black instead
of gray), the view will jump to the first title on that page, as if
you clicked on it in the side pane.

Tested on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (Gnome desktop), evince 0.8.1-0ubuntu1.

Steps to reproduce:
- open a pdf with structure information in evince
- make sure View-Continuous is checked
- reload the document (View-Reload or Ctrl+R)
- make sure the side pane is visible and it is set on Index
- scroll down to the next page with a title on it

Here is an example pdf. Notice the bug doesn't happen when scrolling from page
1 to page 2 (and vice versa) when the first title is already selected in the
side pane.
Make sure you have a sufficient zoom level to clearly see the bug (on my
1280x800, it is clearly visible at 100%).

[Bug 115727] Re: totem crash after adding notes to movie file

2007-05-26 Thread Jérôme Guelfucci
I had a look at this and I can't reproduce the bug. It would be great if
you could run the backtrace. It's really easy :

Prepare everything :

- use https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash to add the reposetry for
the debug packages.
- look in SYnaptic to see if you are using totem-xine or totem-gstreamer. If
you are using totem-xine install totem-xine-dbgsym, if you are using
totem-gstreamer install totem-gstreamer-dbgsym.
-add the notes to your video file
-make sure gdb is installed

Run the backtrace in a terminal :
Run gdb totem 21 | tee gdb-totem.txt

Then in the prompt write (the prompt as (gdb) in front) :

handle SIG33 pass nostop noprintthen press enter
set pagination 0 then press enter
run /path/to/your/file/MegastarFrance.wmv

Then totem should appear and crash.

After that enter in the prompt :

backtrace full then press enter
info registersthen press enter
thread apply all backtracethen press enter
quit then press enter

The backtrace is now finished,it should be located in your home folder,
then just attach it here. Thank you very much.

[Bug 64256] Re: 5.1 sound on stereo soundcard

2007-05-26 Thread amnesia
Nor did I that time. That's why I reported the bug: only have 2 speakers
and I didn't hear some speech at all. Can't confirm it right now on
feisty since I don't have files with 5.1 audio ATM.

Now it only happens when you do Save all on feisty, save seems to
catch the case when the file exists.

[Bug 106356] Re: Totem don't load subtitles.

2007-05-26 Thread Evandro Pastor
I put subtitle and movie file together in a folder. I did what you
suggest Sebastien, I've renamed the subtitle file, and It works. About
DVD subtitles, to solve I've installed totem-xine package and remove
totem-gstreamer.

[Bug 117047] Re: after installing a application I lost the Ubuntu Help

2007-05-26 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. Don't use non-supported buggy software if you
want to have a distribution working correctly. Closing that's not an
Ubuntu bug
