I realized that Problem under all versions of Ubuntu so far, also at the currently last one (Feisty). I assigned CDs to gnome-cd, which opens them when inserting. But I did not find a possibility to change the right-click menu when clicking on the desktop-icon. The image is part of the 'openclipart-svg' package, and is attached. Note that the crash does not always happen right away, and, at least with Nautilus, sometimes you can view the directory, or several in a row, and then you'll hit one that makes it bomb. It is not necessarily always the same file or directory. To get this one, you might want to install those clipart images for experimentation.
