[Bug 74454] Re: [network-admin] net-mgr doesn't remember location

2007-06-11 Thread Glyn
Hi Sebastien

I figured that since the bug tracker doesn't have a way of voting for
bugs, that was the only lever available to flag the importance of the
bug. I have been delighted by Feisty and this particular bug stands out
compared to the usability of the other parts of the system I have used.

I admit I was surprised to be allowed to nominate the bug for a version
- maybe that's something that should be restricted to committers?

Anyway, thanks for the pointer to the source...

[Bug 119983] Gnome Panel, Double-click on icon sends panel away.

2007-06-11 Thread Stephen Gornick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

If I launch an icon by double-clicking on it and then move the mouse
before the app launches then the panel hosting the icon I clicked will
move to the side where the mouse moved. To get the panel back to its
original position I need to go into the panel's properties and change
the orientation back to top.

How to repeat:
In the default Gnome desktop, double-click on the Firefox icon and then quickly
move the mouse to the right side before Firefox launches. For me, I can get
this to recur at least 20% of the time, or even more frequent if there is a
load on the computer such as launching some other app (e.g., OpenOffice) and
then double-clicking on the Firefox icon, followed by moving the mouse away.

I got this same behavior on both my Feisty Desktop i386 installation as
well as on a Feisty Desktop AMD64 LiveCD.

Does anyone know what I can do?

[Bug 119954] Re: Nautilus crashes while looking the partition icon properties

2007-06-11 Thread Juan Pablo Salazar Bertín
I can confirm this in Gutsy. To reproduce the freeze:

1) Open Nautilus and go to computer:///
2) Right click any of the icons except Filesystem and choose "properties"
3) Close the properties window

After that, nautilus freezes using 100% cpu.
This is also reproducible using the icons in the desktop, if they are present.

[Bug 119957] Compatibility with Tally , India's accounting software.

2007-06-11 Thread hemantrulz
Public bug reported:

Hi There

I am writing this from India. I really want to adopt Ubuntu . But the
only draw back is Ubuntu is not or shall i say Tally(India's most
popular accounting software) , does not run on Ubuntu.

This is in fact a very major draw back which is holding back the acceptance of
Ubuntu in India. 90 percent of small business owners or medium enterprises and
SME's use Tally 9.11v (latest)
The users of this software in India range around 10 million people or more
individually. 50 percent of it may be cracked software , but if its Windows for
OS popularity the same way its Tally for accounting needs.

If you can develop Ubuntu platform to be compatible with Tally , rest
assured within 2 years Ubuntu can be seen as a Major OS at least in
India... As people would love to have an open source , free and best
of all a stable and a better OS than windows. The USP of Ubuntu as a
free Open Sourceware will be readily accpeted country wide with this
one thing if you guys can manage it .

I am also experiencing something similar. If I boot my laptop with my

running feisty with all patches applied (up to last night). My

[Bug 119774] Re: allow the use authenticated smb shares without editing /ect/fstab

2007-06-11 Thread iGadget
I totally agree on this one. Integrating an Ubuntu desktop in an

that, it's slowing progress on fixing bug #1. Confirmed.

[Bug 119774] allow the use authenticated smb shares without editing /ect/fstab

2007-06-11 Thread Wladston Viana
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have a SAMBA server for my home. I've setup shares that are guest-
accessible, but are only writable by authenticated users.

On a windows box, it shows a prompt asking for the password - if it is
provided, the access is authenticated. If it isn't provided, it falls to
the guest access.

But, on a Ubuntu box, using nautilus to browse to "network", it doesn't
ask for the password, and there are no options on Gnome GUI to set the
user/password to use when connecting to the share. The only way to
access the shares with the proper permission is editing the /etc/fstab
file, as said on the guide :
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently

The expected is to have a prompt when connecting, asking the password or
suggesting the use of guest account, or having a "properties" on the
server, where one can set the username/password to use.

Hi,

Sorry for duplicate :/

I'm very surprised the bug has a "low" importance. I personally lost
260Go by emptying my trash-bin... This is worst than getting a trojan on
Windows... I concider it very dangerous.

I guess it's because not too many users are affected. Hope it'll be
solve soon.

Thanks a lot,

Alex.

[Bug 119448] All system files appear in trash applet

2007-06-11 Thread Alex
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

I'm using Feisty, with 2.6.20.16 kernel. Gnome-applets and Gnome-
applets-data versions: 2.18.0-0ubuntu1

Without any obvious reasons, my trash applet shows files that really
shouldn't be there:

Few days ago, I emptied my trash bin through the trash applet. Before I
noticed anything, 230Go of data were lost. That was the content, and
only the content, of my external hard disk.

I then reinstalled Feisty, only keeping my /home. It went fine for 24
hours or so.

Today the same thing happened. I just put my cursor over the trash
applet, and notice a huge amount of files. But this time, my WHOLE
system is in there. So I tried to open the trash applet but it wouldn't,
and I noticed that Nautilus was freezed. ("killall nautilus" didn't
help).

So I rebooted.

If I have a look at the ./trash from my /home or another partition,
there's nothing more in there that what should be, it looks fine, and I
can empty it normally.

Here is my post on Ubuntu forum:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=465004

And another video that might help:

http://dl.free.fr/17A5S89d/trashmadness.avi

2007-06-11 Thread dAniel hAhler
I can confirm that "Ctrl-S" does not work in gnome-terminal, while it does in
Konsole.
In gnome-terminal, it seems to start a "special sequence input" or similar,
e.g. pressing Ctrl-S and then "cursor down" results in a "[B".

[Bug 114885] Re: Notifications won't work. Error After Logout/In again Ubuntu 7.04

2007-06-11 Thread DWHagar
Once more...

The workaround was functional until next reboot, now, no process can be
seen to be holding up bonobo, no idea where to go to solve this from
here. I know a little about programming but I"m afraid looking through
the source code for these things is like a child trying to read war and

[Bug 119910] Gnome should remember panel order and state

2007-06-11 Thread Pander
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

When in Gnome you move the bottom panel the top of the screen the order
of the panel (from to to bottom) is first the panel with the start menu,
then the panel with the windows list. However, after a restart of Gnome
the order switched around which is unwanted behavior. Could Gnome
remember exactly how the panel order is?

When in Gnome you hide a panel via the hide buttons, the panel will be
shown after a restart of Gnome which is unwanted behavior. Could Gnome
remember exactly the hidden state of the panel?

Implementing these fixes will provide a more consistent behavior of
Gnome following user expectancies.

Both bugs are for Gnome 2.18.1 on Feisty.

[Bug 119769] Re: Hot Keys feature: special shell characters not escaped in %f macros

2007-06-11 Thread Michael Chudobiak
Yuck, why would you put angle brackets in a filename?

Anyway, gThumb has been patched to escape angle brackets
(http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/gthumb?rev=1692&view=rev). The fix should
appear in 2.10.4.
