[Bug 121951] Adding files to Serpentine doesn't work

2007-06-24 Thread Jamu Kakar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: serpentine

I tried adding files three ways:

1. By clicking on the + Add toolbar icon. This brings up a file
chooser dialog which I used to select the MP3s I want to burn to a
CD. Clicking Open didn't result in any change. In fact, after
that the dialog is frozen and can only be closed by clicking the
   title bar X button.

2. By using the Edit-Add menu item. The result were identical to #1.

3. By dragging and dropping the files I wanted onto the Serpentine
track listing area. This caused the pointer to change to an
arrow-with-a-plus-symbol that led me to believe the operation
should work; however, it didn't result in any noticeable change in
   the application.

I tried doing the same procedures one file-at-a-time and also with
FLACs as well as MP3s. It looks like this bug makes Serpentine
unusable. :(

I'm running an up-to-date (x86) gutsy install.

[Bug 118745] Re: default desktop/panel menu font sizes too small

2007-06-24 Thread Tim Hull
On my system (13 inch MacBook - dual-boot installed w/Boot Camp), this appears
to detect the DPI correctly. as being 112 dpi.
However, the resulting fonts, when using my display's native 1280x800
resolution, are huge. I think the issue may not necessarily be the
wrong DPI being detected - it's that the font is a bad size with the right DPI
selected! In the meantime, I've reverted to the Feisty settings
(96 dpi, 10 pt font in Gnome), and everything looks normal again.

[Bug 49127] Re: Long file names are truncated without warning

2007-06-24 Thread Mario Đanić
Do you still experience the same problem in gutsy? If I remember
correctly what I did in libisofs is that the truncating algorithm starts
by truncating extension, but keeps minimum of 3 chars, and then moves to
the name. This seems like a mkisofs-related problem, but n-c-b should
probably display the renaming dialog as mentioned in the upstream bug.

[Bug 121953] Epiphany can't open links in a new tab

2007-06-24 Thread bj mccormick
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After years of using Firefox, I expect links to open in new tabs.
Instead I get a new window. The best example is if you click on a story
at digg.com... I think I would get the desired effect if I middle
clicked on everything, but this laptop does not have a middle clicker.
It also seems that epiphany does not obey the about:config and instead
uses gconf. about:config has the prefs in there that should get the
desired effect.

I propose that Epiphany should at least be given a working gconf option
to allow all links to open in tabs.

Re: [Bug 119694] Re: Use of more than one desktop crashes panel on boot

2007-06-24 Thread LostIntheWoods
M. Bacher:

Je m'excuse.

To clarify the bug. Let's suppose that we have
installed Ubuntu 7.04 and have booted. We now want to
have three desktops instead of one. We right-click on
the desktop in the lower left hand corner and then
click on preferences. On the menu that comes up, we
change 'number of desktops' to three. We then close
the menu and do some other things without bothering to
change desktops--by default we are on the first
desktop and now have two more.

We close the computer down and then reboot.

We now click on desktop three as the first thing we
do. The gnome-panel about 50% of the time crashes: we
no longer have the lower panel--no desktops, no
nothing. Often we even lose the icons on the desktop
area. The desktop area is blank. On the upper panel,
when we click on 'system' nothing happens. When we
click on the upper right hand corner (upper panel) to
power down gracefully and restart, nothing happens.
Sometimes we even lose the upper panel completely. We
are obliged to hard power down the computer (power
on/off button) and then reboot. When we do the hard
power off, the screen we immediately see before the
power off is a log that says that the computer is
running the boot-time scripts. I really don't know
enough to know if that is significant. Sometimes,
however, the whole thing works properly.

The problem I have with doing a backtrace and sending
the log is how to attach the gdb module to the
gnome-panel in such a way that it is automatically
attached once the computer is booted, so that I can
then replicate the sequence of events that lead to the
crash; and how I can be certain to find the log
because as soon as the gnome-panel crashes the
computer is completely unusable and must be rebooted.

Thanks very much.

***Your welcome
I've tested this on Gutsy, and haven't been able to reproduce the result,
though I did review the debug that you provided (Thank you for that). I suspect
that it may be due to avahi-daemon either not being installed, or not active as

ensure that it is in your services and running, and try again.

2007-06-24 Thread ccc1
hi,

Just some more details for my last post. The 'border' under feisty is
exactly 64 characters.

So a file with a name consisting 65 characters (total: name + extension) the
last character of the extension is truncated under windows xp.
As written above under gnome-baker everthing is fine.

Unfortunatly i can't check under gusty, since i'm still using feisty.
maybe somebody else can test.

[Bug 24280] Re: [Theme Manager] No installation option for system wide themes, difference is not communicated in the user interface

2007-06-24 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
Perhaps its all very difficult to explain for everyone.
Last try:

Tolan, sudo does NOT change the theme.
GTK just can't find the theme because it isn't looking in the right
directories.

Because the theme is installed in the users' home directory, not in
/usr/share/themes.
GTK should just use the 'home' environment value (which is correct, as you
point out)

Yes, it is still an issue with Feisty Fawn; there are even additional
comments on the upstream bug about that.

It seems that this is going to be one of those stubborn issues...
perhaps a bug asking that GTK+ be fixed would be better? Do you have

[Bug 121989] gnome-panel / desktop icons doesn't appear on startup

2007-06-24 Thread César
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hello,

I'm running Ubuntu Feisty, with Gnome and Beryl.

Sometimes (I can't figure out when or why) the gnome panels won't appear
(only my desktop appears). At other times, it's the desktop icons that
won't appear (even if I drop some icon on the desktop it won't work).
Once both problems appeared at the same time (The only thing on screen
was my wallpaper, but if I opened some program with Alt+F2 it would run
normally)

This problem occurs only sometimes in the startup, so when I change
something I have no idea if it worked or not. Tried removing some things
that run in startup (only thing I had added was Beryl), but the problem
still happened.

If I open the ~/Desktop folder with nautilus everything looks ok.
If I use the ps -aux command, gnome-panel and nautilus appear to be running.

If I kill the process (gnome-panel or nautilus, depending on what's not
working) it appears and everything goes back to normal...

It seems relate to Bug #12463, but it's not quite the same...

Is it happening to anybody else?

Thanks in advance

[Bug 121988] right-click menu comes up blank with dual monitors

2007-06-24 Thread Eythian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm running a dual monitor setup, with the primary screen (that with the
panels) on top. When I right-click on an application in the window list
at the bottom of the primary screen, the menu comes up on the one screen
(which is good), however I think that it thinks it has plenty of space
below, and so the menu itself comes up blank with a scroller. It
shouldn't do this.

[Bug 68620] Re: gnome-system-monitor shows squashed key in resources graphs

2007-06-24 Thread toby dacre
Sebastien,

After upgrading to fiesty this bug still exists and seeing how it looks
like it'll still be here in gutsy I have decided to do something about
it (this is after all the point of all this open source stuff)

I've written a patch that fixes the problem by changing the number of
lines shown as the graph re sizes (see the screenshot attached)

I'm not sure the best way to provide the patch but here is the output of diff.
If you want a better format let me know and i'll try to provide it.
Could you also pass this upstream as I don't have a bugzilla account

the file is trunck/src/load-graph.cpp

this is the diff between my patch and the current ubuntu
i think the #include gtkmm.h is an error (not part of my patch) as I've been
working from 2.18.1.1 as I can't get 2.19.4 to configure but I've done the diff
against 2.19.4

[Bug 24280] Re: [Theme Manager] No installation option for system wide themes, difference is not communicated in the user interface

2007-06-24 Thread Tolan Blundell
Perhaps you could try not assuming everyone is an idiot.

I never said sudo changed the theme, my point was that *from the point
of view of the user*, code run through sudo, such as GTK, should act as
though it is being run by the session user, not the current GID/UID, for
all things except permissions. The purpose of sudo is usually to gain
the permissions of another user, not to 'be' that user.

So yes GTK should not set the theme based on UID/GID.

[Bug 44811] Re: File type / Open with annoyance

2007-06-24 Thread Blue
I do not think there will ever be a way to include in the distribution
any possible mimetype. In these condition, there must be a way for the
enduser to control how his files are opened based for example only on
the extension (or anything that works for any generic file).

At this moment, it is impossible (using only the standard desktop environment)
to assign DXF files to be opened with the appropriate application. This is
because nautilus tries to outsmart the user in identified almost any non binary
file as a pure text file and assign it to be opened with the default texteditor.
Trying to change this behaviour by right clicking such a file (a dxf file for
example) and assigning another application to handle the file will actually
assign any textfile to be opened with the second application, which again is
wrong.

As long as the user does not have a way to change the behaviour for third party
documents/files this is still a bug. (Would you otherwise prefer us to open a
bug for ubuntu saying that ubuntu does not include any possible mimetype on
earth ? )
It's not right to always try to outsmart the user about what he (the user)
wants. A lot of us have bad memories about a certain operating system doing
exactly that.

Thank you.

[Bug 95508] Re: gnome-doc-utils.make contains syntax errors

2007-06-24 Thread RichardBronosky
I don't know what I did to get this, so I can't very well make a patch.
I also don't know where to get another copy of the original. I realize
that I should have made a backup. Oops!

I'm posting it here so that it may be useful to someone else.

[Bug 122010] Nautilus crashes when opening multimedia file properites

2007-06-24 Thread Simon Dierl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When opening properties of a single multimedia file (actually, every
time an audio or audio/video tab would have been displayed), nautilus
crashes with code 0177. Totem (totem-gstreamer) has no problem
displaying these information.

System:
Ubuntu 7.10
nautilus package version: 1:2.19.4-0ubuntu1

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 112118] Re: Segmentation fault on playing

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 89130 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/89130

#14 through #18 still do not have debug symbols, even though I've
installed libgstreamer0.10-0-dbg.

Could not get Valgrind to work now for some reason: G_SLICE=always-malloc
G_DEBUG=gc-friendly  valgrind -v --tool=memcheck --leak-check=full
--num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log rhythmbox
It creates a new log file, but rhythmbox will not open.

[Bug 93381] Re: [Feisty] Name column width in nautilus

This REALLY should get fixed on Feisty. I guess I have seen about 4
times this same bug reported on launchpad, and dozens of users
complaining about it...

[Bug 93381] Re: [Feisty] Name column width in nautilus

2007-06-24 Thread Fabio Ornellas
Sorry about the second in a row...

I've just seen this change log:

nautilus (1:2.18.1-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
- Some crash fixes (Ubuntu: #90934)
- Bump default name column width to 32 chars
  * debian/patches/02_autoconf.patch:
- updated
  * debian/patches/90_from_svn_fix_column_width.patch:
- dropped, fixed with the new version

Dropping the fix to the columns width. However, I am using this exactly
version and the name column still is hard coded to a very small width.
This should get checked.

Thank you.
