[Bug 67129] Re: notification-daemon using 237MB of memory

2007-07-26 Thread bfallik
I've experienced exactly the same problem. I'd noticed that my computer
was running very sluggishly and it felt like a memory issue. CPU usage
was normal, yet all of X seemed painfully slow.

After inspecting g-s-m I saw notification-applet was using ~60Megs, which
seemed a bit extreme. Further, using this python script to create
notifications:
  http://trac.galago-project.org/wiki/PythonNotificationsExample
I was able to arbitrarily increase n-a's memory usage.

After killing n-a, my computer instantly became more responsive and when
dbus restarted the daemon, it's memory usage was around 8M.

Is there anything else I can provide to help with this bug?

[Bug 122295] Re: Notification Area doesn't work

2007-07-26 Thread Sebastian Schauenburg
I can (more or less) confirm this bug, since I have it too, but ONLY on
my secondary monitor. On my first monitor everything seems fine when I
start apps like gaim etc. which show up in the notification area. Even
if I use 'alltray', it confirms that I have no notification area on my
2nd monitor. The strange thing is, I can 'see' that I've added a
notification area (it looks the same as on my main monitor, except for
the fact that no icons show up).

[Bug 106995] Re: gnome-terminal unconditionally interprets mouse wheel events

2007-07-26 Thread Micah Cowan
For me, this happens in Feisty as well, though I suspect it depends on
the version of screen running (potentially, remotely)--or possibly bash
--rather than of gnome-terminal.

In order for such a thing to occur, bash must request screen to send it
mouse button events, and screen must in turn request it of the
"xterm"-like terminal running it. It seems likely that, for whatever
reason, bash does not enable mouse-button support when running directly
in gnome-terminal, but does when being run under screen. While it's hard
to say for certain, my strong suspicion is that this is a bash issue,
rather than a vte issue. However, as to whether this is truly a "bug",
I'm not sure.

Note that, scrolling through the scrollback buffer when screen is active
is useless anyway, since screen does not cause anything to be scrolled
in the terminal; rather, it saves things to its own scrollback buffer,
which can be accessed in "copy mode" (C-A C-[).

[Bug 128615] memory leak → tabs are not real ly closed

2007-07-26 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Hi,

I'm using the latest version of Epiphany on Ubuntu Gutsy: When I open an
epiphany tab and play a video on it (either a flash video from youtube,
or a divx video from stage6), if I close the tab the video keeps
sounding on the background.

Also, after long periods of time the PC starts to go slowlier, which
leads me to think there could be a memory leak somewhere. Could epiphany
be after all this?

I normally get this dialog box when I win a game but when the winning

I cannot click on the details button on the error dialog. However, I
played with the game and
if I start a new game before the old one is finished I can click on the

and it shows "Text contains invalid UTF-8". Sometimes the details line
is repeated.

[Bug 106995] Re: gnome-terminal unconditionally interprets mouse wheel events

2007-07-26 Thread Chris Jones
Sorry, that wasn't very clear.

With the regular gnome terminal without running screen, the mouse
scrolls through the *scrollback* of the terminal (ie what you would
expect since the widget has a scrollbar). It's just running inside
screen that makes it scroll through command history, for me. Matthias -
can you reproduce it outside of screen?

[Bug 106995] Re: gnome-terminal unconditionally interprets mouse wheel events

2007-07-26 Thread Chris Jones
I have just upgraded my laptop (Thinkpad X40) to gutsy in the last few
days and encountered this.

If I launch a regular gnome terminal and generate a lot of output (e.g.
ls -la /etc/) and scroll with the mousewheel it moves back and forth
through the history correctly.

If I then run screen inside the terminal and generate a lot of output,
instead of behaving as above, the scrollwheel just does the equivalent
of pressing up and down cursor keys - ie yes, it scrolls the command
history.

I am able to reproduce this with an entirely new user with no bash,
screen or gnome-terminal configuration. I am also able to reproduce it
with a python script which uses vte. FWIW, I scroll using the middle
mouse button and EmulateWheel (xorg.conf option). For me this is a
regression from Feisty.

ii libvte9 1:0.16.6-0ubuntu2
ii gnome-terminal2.18.1-1ubuntu

Please let me know if you need any more info.

- print a picture in in photo color quality
- print a web page in default color mode
- print a document in normal grayscale mode

This allows me to save color from color cartridge or gives me more speed
for simple text printouts. And it's VERY ANNOYING if I always have to
go to:

System > Settings > Printer > Edit Printer Settings > Set printout mode

For setting right printout mode for the task.

[Bug 118745] Re: Font sizes in Gutsy are vulnerable to bad X.org DPI detection

2007-07-26 Thread Nick_Hill
Hello Andreas

Presumably your fonts scaled to 75dpi but displayed on your 96dpi
screen. They were therefore not displayed as an 11pt font but instead
displayed as an 8.5pt font. Now the dpi is presumably detected
correctly, it is displayed, as set, at 11pt.

As you rightly say, there is a matter of taste how big you would like to
see your fonts on screen. But having the system set up so that it does
not "know" the resolution of your screen is not a good way to achieve
the desired result. Putting it another way, if your screen were really
75dpi, you would probably again find the fonts too big.

Once screen dpi is correctly detected and set on the majority of
systems, if users find the fonts are then too big, bugs can be filed
against Gnome/KDE for more appropriate default font sizes.

In the meantime, you can adjust your menu font sizes to your preferred
size in the control panel.

[Bug 51604] Re: Example feeds need Ubuntu-izing

2007-07-26 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
I'd propose solving this bug for Gutsy. As a suggestion here are some
Ubuntu- and Linux-specific feeds:

The official Ubuntu Fridge:
http://fridge.ubuntu.com/ or
http://fridge.ubuntu.com/node/feed

Mark Shuttleworth
http://www.markshuttleworth.com/ or
http://www.markshuttleworth.com/feed

Ubuntu Blog
http://ubuntu.wordpress.com/ or
http://ubuntu.wordpress.com/feed/

Planet Ubuntu
http://planet.ubuntu.com/ or
http://planet.ubuntu.com/rss20.xml

Debian package of the day
http://debaday.debian.net/ or
http://debaday.debian.net/feed/

Ubuntuusers.de Ikhaya (German)
http://www.ubuntuusers.de/ikhaya/ or
http://www.ubuntuusers.de/rss/ikhaya.xml?showtext=true

ubuntublog.de - German Ubuntu Blog
http://ubuntu.blog.de/ or
http://www.blog.de/srv/xml/xmlfeed.php?blog=30685&mode=rss2.0

I am sure there a further examples. I would really like to see some
native language blogs in French, Spanish and so on as this would
emphasize the spirit of Ubuntu. Maybe one could read the system language
settings and activate English + system language blogs.

2007-07-26 Thread Durand D'souza
Public bug reported:

error which is something along the lines of GDM has just crashed 6 times
in the last 60 seconds, it will be run in 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, it
does the exact same thing.

I temporarily fixed logging in by installing kdm and running sudo kdm.

Hi, I've been having the same problem with Ekiga, but I found a way to
solve it for me.

When I tryed to call another person with Ekiga I got a "Security Check
Failed" message everytime. So I tryed to start Ekiga from a root user:

xhost +
su
ekiga

and I could make calls just fine.

After this I thought the problem would be with the system groups, Ekiga
has probably created a group that my user doesn't has access to. Then I
added my user to the group Voice and everything worked fine.

Hope this helps,
Felipe

[Bug 125179] Re: when vino is running for several hours, performance degrades, making xorg to eat up cpu usage

2007-07-26 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. Are you using vino while performance degrade? Do
you have any process using extra memory or cpu? Do you have easy steps
to trigger the bug? The current descriptions lack details to be useful

trigger it or a small testcase?

[Bug 127944] Re: [gutsy]Open Office applications don't start

2007-07-26 Thread Gabriel Jacobo
I found a better workaround...as was mentioned, installing the old package
breaks a lot of things, specially Pidgin icons which I couldnt seem to
bear...so, I updated the GTK2 library to the newest version, and I dumped the
contents of the old package (more exactly the contents of CONTENTs/usr/lib) to
/usr/lib/openoffice/program. This does the trick, and the other apps keep
working just fine. Obviously, once this issue is solved, I'll have to delete
the extracted files.
By the way, without the workaround I can open "soffice", and check the
configuration. However, when I enter the "Fonts" item it hangs (it does not
hang with the workaround in place). The exact same thing also happens with the
"Languages" item (I have spanish localization installed).

[Bug 128454] Re: 41335

2007-07-26 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately we can't fix it,
because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
. We'd be grateful if
you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
 Thanks!

[Bug 128561] Remember last seleced item in combobox

2007-07-26 Thread Pander
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

In often used dialog windows like Image / Canvas size and Image / Scale
image there are comboboxes for dimensions. Here one can select pixels,
percent, etc. Often these dialog windows are used over and over again.
By default pixels is selected, but one resizes all the time with
percent, one has to reselect percent over and over again.

In order to improve GIMP it is desirable that the last selected item in
these comboboxes is remembered and is already selected when using this
dialog window again (also after closing the dialog).

Many more comboboxes and other types of settings (like checkboxes etc.)
could be selected to inhibit the smart selection. Also it could be
possible to have a settings in the preferences to this able the aboved
described feature.

Implementing this feature will allow users to perform many of their
tasks with less mouse clicks or keyboard hits, enabling to work faster
and more efficient with GIMP.
