[Bug 132612] memory leak in evince?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I'm running Gutsy, all up to date, and finding evince very slow and erratic with large (100s of pages, 30-50MB) PDF files. Machine triple-boots Feisty/Gutsy/WinXP; HP Pavilion with 512 MB RAM, Athlon 64 3200+ single processor. In Feisty evince loads large PDFs fine, changes pages smoothly. System Monitor shows evince process uses 50-100MB with a 50MB file open and static; this bounces up by another 2 to 50 MB when I change to a new page, but then drops back to the same level as before. In Gutsy (2.6.22-9-generic kernel) same file loads more slowly, system freezes for ages before recovering. System Monitor shows evince using 250 or more MB when the 50MB file is open and static, bouncing up to 350-400 MB when I change to another page. Then the memory usage stay high (~100%) for much longer, probably until some is paged out to swap. The effect is that the system has no (or very little) free user memory most of the time, which makes it very hard to use .. Acrobat reader in WinXP behaves much more like Feisty/evince, though the % memory used rises slowly as more pages are added to the "looked at" stack. It never jumps to anywhere near 100%. Both Ubuntu installs use the same swap partition, 1.4 GB; both actually use it, according to System Monitor. ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- memory leak in evince? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132612 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 58977] Re: Maximizing ignores docked panles with Xinerama
I believe I am also experiencing this bug. I use two monitors using Xinerama, however they are positioned one on top of the other in a vertical layout. When I have my GNOME Panel at the top of the bottom monitor, maximising a window on the bottom monitor hides the window titlebar behind the panel. However, when I move the GNOME Panel to the top of the top monitor, maximising a window on the top monitor does not extend the window behind the GNOME panel. I'm changing the status to fix released, since file-roller 2.19.4 did indeed deliver that fix. I've tried renaming a png before archiving, so that file-roller calls the needed application by mime type rather than by extension and it worked. I've currently tried png's, jpg's, txt's, eps's, pdf's, perl scripts, FORTRAN sources and text files without extension. [Bug 127085] when rearraging or adding a custom launcher to panel the launcher icon dissapears or becomes hidden
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In GNOME, when creating a custom launcher complete with icon, and I drag a copy to the top panel it later becomes hidden. Sometimes it happens right away, others I must reboot, and when it starts up the custom launcher is gone! So, I try and add another copy of the launcher by doing the same thing and in the same place, and then the first one is visible again, and then there are two. I reported this before, but I thought it had been fixed, but the only way to "fix" this problem is to keep rearranging the launchers on panel until the custom launcher does not dissapear anymore. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- when rearraging or adding a custom launcher to panel the launcher icon dissapears or becomes hidden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127085 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 132566] SSH folder doesn't do anything if RSA host key has changed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When attempting to open a folder created through "Connect to server..." that uses SSH, nothing happens if the host key has changed. When trying to SSH in through the terminal, you at least get a message saying something's wrong: "@ @ WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED! @ @ IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE IS DOING SOMETHING NASTY! Someone could be eavesdropping on you right now (man-in-the-middle attack)! It is also possible that the RSA host key has just been changed." and so on. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince While using the search function in evince to search through PDFs, the CPU usage of X is very high. This is on evince 0.9.3 from recent gutsy. Using the vesa driver of Xorg, X uses up about 70% of CPU and evince 30% while searching the PDF. Presumable due to a separate bug that makes the open source ati driver (radeon 9600 mobile card) slower than the vesa driver, the CPU split while search in evince is even worse with X using up more than 90% of CPU. This also causes the search to be much slower than with the vesa driver. Expected behaviour: Evince should not cause significant load on the X server while simply searching through a document. [Bug 108812] Re: Possible memory leak? gome-panel is a memory hog
I can confirm this on my setup also... and it effects 4 main applications. Gnome-panel -- i've seen it take up well over 250mb of ram. Xserver ( /usr/bin/X ), takes up over 90mb. Gaim -- well over 120mb... which is unacceptable. Firefox -- takes up over 170mb other notes: i usually have a lot of system uptime, and the fixes i came up with are as follows... Xserver Memory usage fix: 1) logout of the session. 2) restart the xserver ( CTRL + ALT + Backspace ) 3) login again. 4) repeat when issue arises again. Gaim/firefox fix: 1) close application 2) restart application. 3) repeat as necessary. Gnome-panel: 1) run the command in a terminal as neccessary... kill -9 `pgrep gnome-panel` -- Possible memory leak? gome-panel is a memory hog https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108812 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Would it be technically and logistically possible for Gutsy to include a lesser version of deskbar, say 2.19.3 instead of 2.19.90.1? If not, would Ubuntu support a patched deskbar that adds the old-styles back as an option?
