[Bug 123080] Re: [gutsy] booting after hibernation doesn't prompt for a password

2007-08-17 Thread tawmas
Not the original reporter, but I can confirm that this still affects me
on latest gutsy (upgraded from feisty, no fresh install).

As a temporary workaround, I found that I can manually lock the screen
and still hibernate through the "Stand-by" key on my keyboard.

Can't tell anything about suspend, because it fails -- and used to fail
in feisty too, so nothing new :-(

[Bug 105856] dbus segfaults after latest update in dapper

2007-08-17 Thread January
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Today I have done the following:
1) run the update with apt-get dist-upgrade
2) installed network-manager and network-manager-gnome

After todays update, dbus seems to throw a segfault when it tries to
start.

First I have removed network-manager and network-manager-gnome with the
--purge option. This did not help, even after a complete reboot the
dbus was still throwing a segfault.

For testing purposes, I have tried to remove with --purge option dbus
with all packages that depend on it. Reinstallation did not succeed.
Dbus throws a segfault:

/etc/init.d/dbus: line 38: 4933 Segmentation fault

As of now, dbus and all packages that rely on it (like hal or volume
manager) are not working on my system.

Regards,
j.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Something really weird is happening on my laptop. All of a sudden DBUS
is broken (or simply does not load during booting) and so gnome-power-
manager does not allow me to sleep/hibernate, neither it shows all its
options. I have to manually restart dbus and then acpid to bring the
machine into a usable state each time. The only service I enabled
compared to the defaults was hdparm, while I disabled cups. But
everything else I had left the same.

2007-08-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 133071] Re: [Gutsy] Right click/Context submenu's don't always work

2007-08-17 Thread Matthew Gregg
To clarify, when trying to reproduce, if the mouse is right clicked then
the right click button is released, then the submenu is selected with a
left click, the bug is produced. However, if you right click holding
down the right button until you select the submenu item, then release
the right button, the menu item works as expected.

[Bug 104902] [users-admin] fails to create user acconut (feisty-beta)

2007-08-17 Thread Bjorn Hansen
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I was testing the feisty beta last night on my home computer (64 bit)
and wanted to create a new user just to see what the default desktop
looked like, so I went to 'System->Administration->Users and Groups' and
created a new user. Logged out and tried to log in as the new user, but
it wouldn't let me. Figuring I had mistyped the password I re-logged in
as my normal user and opened up users-admin again. The new user wasn't
listed. I re-created the account, closed users-admin, then re-opened it
(I think) and the user was still there. Logged out and still couldn't
log in as the new user. Logged back in, opened users-admin and the user
wasn't listed again. I looked at /home and there was a home folder for
the user, with the correct group, but the owner was listed as 1002.

I was able to add a new user via the command line (adduser) with no
trouble however.

This may be a dupe of Bug #95103, but I just tested the users-admin tool
on my (up to date) edgy machine and did not experience the bug.

[Bug 84111] System -> Administration -> Services Doesn't open

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I installed the LAMP with the MySQL 4.0, PostGreSQL and many other things, I
want stop the automatic launch of these and other things on the login. Then I
clicked System -> Administration -> Services, and start removing all
selections, after i gonna active only the necessary, during the "unselection"
the window closed unespected (all things I make have effect), but the System ->
Administration -> Services doesn't open anymore. After the right typing of the
password it says :
"
The configuration could not be loaded
You are not allowed to access the system configuration.
"
All other administrative tasks using the GUI works right. I need some help to
debug this, I already installed the gdb. But I can't find the -gdb in
the apt-get install.

Another question, the Ubuntu use an very unstable repository, I'm
getting too many problems handling the most common programs in each
area(databases, MySQL Administrator, running games in 800x600 screen
resolution, icons don't dis aper after the remove of the program and so
on ).

I only want help, help me using the debug and then I can take a back
trace of many problems.

[Bug 79633] Network-config doesn't start the network

2007-08-17 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

Hi! I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop, which includes both wireless and
Ethernet adapters. For some reason, the network-admin applet doesn't
seem to work anymore. It worked just fine a couple of hours ago.

I have an ADSL modem+router that allows both wired and wireless
connection at home. I prefer to use wireless, and it worked just fine
until this morning. I went to school, where I use a wired connection.
Everything (at home and at school) is DHCP-configured.

For some reason when I got home I couldn't get the network-admin applet
to do anything. I would click on the network icon on the panel, pick my
ssid and enter the password for the wireless link, enable DHCP, click
OK, and nothing happens.

As far as I can tell, some Perl scripts are frozen:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ps -A -f |grep perl
root 6151 1 0 21:09 ?00:00:00 perl
/usr/share//system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl -m
HostsConfig
root 6155 1 0 21:09 ?00:00:00 perl
/usr/share//system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl -m Platform
root 6161 1 1 21:09 ?00:00:00 perl
/usr/share//system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl -m
IfacesConfig
bogdanb 6234 6057 0 21:09 pts/000:00:00 grep perl

**
I couldn't get the wired connection either, but I'm not sure if it's because
there's some process hanging. (I did kill the perl scripts before trying,
though.)

After several trials I had to enable the wired connection by hand
("ifconfig eth0 up" and "dhclient eth0"). I have no idea how to start
the wireless by hand, though.

Let me know if there's any info that I can give to elucidate this.

[Bug 133130] Re: gnome-panel launcher reports error (gutsy)

2007-08-17 Thread Chris Lee
Oh -- I figured it out.

I went to 'System->Preferences->Preferred Applications->System'

and saw that my 'Terminal emulator' was 'Custom' with no command.

I switched to 'gnome-terminal', and all was OK.

So I guess there was maybe some change in gconf usage, probably gnome-
wide (not related to gnome-panel) that caused my terminal emulator
setting to get lost or something on upgrade. I have never explicitly
changed this -- I've always used the default emulator on this system,
which has always been gnome-terminal.

ok.
If I select "Application" in the box "type", in the dialog box to create a
shortcut, and putting the command string "gnome-terminal -x
/usr/local/bin/script" it works, but If I select "Terminal application" in the
type dialog box and put just the string "/usr/local/bin/script" it gave me the

I use compiz normally, but the problem is also there when _not_ using compiz or

As said it is a IBM Thinkpad T42, so the specs are:
64MB RADEON 9600,
Intel Mobile Pentium M 735(1.7GHz)

The driver I use is:
Identifier "ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10]"
Driver "ati"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"

I attached my xorg.conf, although I am not sure if it is useful. If you
